Medical Judgment by Richard L. Mabry, M.D. Book Review

My Review:

Medical Judgement is a novel about Dr. Sarah Gordon who has recently lost her husband and daughter in a terrible car accident. The book starts out with a scary house fire scene that someone intentionally set. She discovers that someone is stalking her and watching her every single movement. She tries to get help from her husband’s best friend and she also reaches out to a detective for help in trying to figure out who is stalking her. Every character has a story and a past that will be revealed throughout the book! This book’s plot will lure you in!

I would recommend this awesome book to anyone who enjoy a thriller. I have read a couple of books by Richard L. Mabry and I can tell that he is only improving in his writing. I loved how I kept having to change my opinion of who was behind the crazy things occurring in this book. I loved how the book discussed the topics of losing someone you love, finding healing, finding love again, moving from the past, and rediscovering your faith. I loved how Mabry shared how Sarah struggled with her faith and how God was always present in the challenges and storms. I also liked how the book explored the different dynamitic of the characters and we get to see many different aspects of their lives. I believe this helped keep the plot interesting and it kept the suspense going. This book would make a wonderful summer read and would be great for a beach trip!

About the book:

Dr. Sarah Gordon lost her husband and daughter. Now she's about to lose her life.

After losing the two people she loved the most, Sarah Gordon doesn't think life could get worse. But, after a fire in her garage is ruled an arson, she begins to realize someone is after her---and that person wants to see her dead. But first, they want to see her suffer.

Her late husband's best friend, Kyle Andrews, and a recovering alcoholic detective, Bill Larson, are trying to solve the mystery before it's too late, and they're both trying to win her heart, too. Not only does Sarah feel torn between two men, she also feels as though she cannot trust anyone.

With creepy threats that become more and more sinister, Sarah finds herself in constant fear, but even the best home alarm technology won't protect her. Who is doing this, and why are they after her?

The Problem

Nearly 7,000 miles away from the United States, there's a war going on in the country of Syria. Many families have been forced from their homes. Parents have had to leave their jobs, and children have had to leave behind toys and friends.

Many of these families now live in refugee camps in nearby countries. They have tents instead of houses. Clean water is hard to come by. This war has put 2.6 million children out of school – some for more than four years already.

The Solution

Our friends at Focus on the Family Middle East know many families who don't have the money to buy a school uniform and pay for their children to go to school. They also know people who would love to teach children English in local churches.

You may not have a lot of money to help, but you probably have time, energy and excitement. Here's what you can do:

1. Go to to Whitsend.org/summer.

2. Print a sponsor sheet and exercise to earn points. You can do it for a week or the whole summer – just remember, the more you exercise, the more points you'll earn!

3. Ask your family and friends to sponsor your efforts.

4. Beginning in July, tell us how you did and receive a digital bundle from your friends at Adventures in Odyssey and Focus on the Family. The deadline to submit your information is August 31, 2016.

For participating and submitting your information, you will get a free Adventures in Odyssey episode from Album 51. You will also get 101 Surefire Ways to Strengthen Your Child's Faith – eBook and the audio book of Imagination Station #1, “Voyage with the Vikings.”

Make the most of your summer—exercise for your health and help other kids in need while you do!

Naming Our Abuse and Journey to Heal Book Reviews

My Review for Naming Our Abuse:

I would recommend this awesome book to any male that has been abuse whether sexual, physically, mentally, or spiritually. I liked how this book was written by three men who shared details about what they went through with dealing with the horrible abuse. I especially loved how the authors also included questions throughout the book in order to assist people in finding their hope and healing again. I also liked how they had a little bit of room to write the answers. They talked about the difficult emotions of angry and even how guilt and feelings of suicide. I immensely liked how real the men was in trying to help others find healing and strength to continue on in their journey.

My Review for Journey to Heal:

I would recommend this book to all females who have been abused. Men could also benefit from reading this book! I especially liked how this book stated truths to encourage and remind readers that they aren’t alone in their journey and also how the abuse wasn’t their fault and they couldn’t have prevented it. The statistics shared in this book was heartbreaking and it’s shocking to see how the number are only rising! I liked how this one contained scriptures verses and passages the readers could engage in to help them in their healing. I also liked how this one has a special prayers after each chapter to help readers to grow more spiritually. I also liked the layout of the book and how she included steps for each chapter.

About the book:

Naming Our Abuse: God's Pathways to Healing for Male Sexual Abuse Survivors (Kregel, April 2016)

A stunningly vulnerable look at the horrific realities of sexual abuse and how to overcome them.

Male sexual abuse is increasingly in the news, from scandals in the Catholic Church to exploitations at Penn State. Yet books and programs about healing are still overwhelmingly oriented toward the female survivor of abuse. As men who experienced childhood abuse, the authors of this book are uniquely qualified to address the healing process of male survivors.

Using the metaphor of a car accident, Naming Our Abuse leads the survivor from the Wreck to the Accident Report to Rehabilitation to Driving Again. This four-step model illustrates that healing is a process to be nurtured rather than something that can be healed in a single telling. Following the authors' examples, readers are invited to find solidarity with other male survivors and develop an understanding of their own wounding through journaling exercises.

About the book:

Journey to Heal: Seven Essential Steps of Recovery for Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse (Kregel, April 2016)

A path of hope and healing for survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

A woman who was sexually abused as a child is confronted with many internal questions: Am I worthless? Will I get past the pain? Do I matter to God? These and similar questions can carve a deep hole in an already wounded soul. Too often, the lies of worthlessness are believed, the pain becomes too much to handle, and survivors find themselves making choices that lead to more heartbreak. With over 42 million survivors (both male and female) in the United States alone, the need for a clear path to healing is great.

Crystal Sutherland---herself a survivor of CSA---knows that while the recovery process is complex, healing is possible with God's help. For women who want to progress from simply coping to living abundantly, Journey to Heal guides readers through seven essential steps to recovery found in Scripture. Candid and open about her personal journey of healing, Crystal comes alongside her reader as a friend who understands. Infused with biblical truths, stories of hope from other survivors, and practical wisdom, this book leads women to discover the life of wholeness God has for them.
