Something Greater: Finding Triumph Over Trials By Paula White-Cain Book Review

In Something Greater, Paul White-Cain opens up about her life story and how she felt the love of her father and how she felt like his princess. He had a drinking problem and one day her mother leaves him because he took some of the money for his family. A few days later, there was an episode of him demanding to have his daughter back and he threatened to kill himself. Shortly thereafter, he commits suicide. Paula reveals what she went through in the book about how his event changed her life and how she battled insecurity and not feeling good enough. Later in the book, she shared about college and how she met Dean Knight and how one of his uncles how to change the course of her life. She was told about God and his forgiveness. This is the first time she experienced true radical love and was told that she had a purpose. She eventually finds out that she is pregnant and they decided to get married. Paula finds her purpose and serves in the church starting as a janitor, then a Sunday school teacher, and finally a preacher. She also shared with readers how her marriage was failing and how she met Randy White and how they founded Without Walls International Church. She revealed how she came to have success as a preacher and how she got onto TV. Paula has even become a pastor for some high named celebrities such as Kid Rock and President Trump that God has gifted her to help influence them spiritually. Later in the book, she also shared about her failing marriage with Randy and how we cheated on her. She will also share how she found love again with Journey’s keyboard player, Jonathan Cain.

I would recommend this life changing book to anyone who enjoys reading an inspirational book. I have heard Paula White speak before on TV and online services and this woman is an awesome preacher and a woman of God. I have read a few other books by her and I will say this book is probably the most different written style by her. This isn’t your typical do these steps and change your life. I felt like this book was more written to show Paula White’s story in the way it happened. I feel like this book included many new stories not told before by her and it felt like an autobiography. I liked how she started at the beginning and kept you up to date with what has happened in her life recently. I believe many readers will be able to connect with her story and they will be able to see how she made it through with God’s help and like her life God has a plan for each of us. We’re all meant to live a life for Something Greater!

Raising Successful Teens: How to Help Your Child Honor God and Live Wisely by Jeffrey Dean Book Review

In Raising Successful Teens, Jeffrey Dean has written an updated edition of the book, The Fight of Your Life. He explored different topics that teenagers are facing in today’s times including acceptance, addictions, drugs, sex, homosexuality, pornography, dating, cell phone usage, social media, suicide, and much more. He began the book by looking at the story of Moses and how he was forced to be abandoned by his mother. Pharaoh ordered male Hebrew babies to be killed and his mother’s put Moses in the river in order to save his life. As we know, he was found by Pharaoh’s daughter and raised as an Egyptian. Moses was raised with a purpose to save God’s people. Jeffrey shared how parents are chosen by God to fulfill a purpose and how their teenagers are chosen for a purpose. He explained that God could have chosen anyone to be their parent but He chose them to be their parent. As parents, we want our kids to follow their God given dreams and to fulfill their purpose in life. He also revealed the real truth of how satan doesn’t like our teens and how he uses social media and peer pressure to try and lure them into following the traps of society.

I would recommend this amazing book to all parents and parents to be. I immensely like how he covered all of the topics with an updated look about how social media is bringing even new challenges to our teenagers. Most of our teenagers love the attention they get from their friends and strangers with their posts, likes, and snaps. It’s affecting both girls and boys, they are struggling with facing sexting pressure and pornography . Most of it comes down to how our teenagers see themselves and their desire to be accepted. Boys are desperately trying to work out and be toned to get the likes from the girls. Jeffrey also shared how he was praying for a group of high schoolers and the boys shared how much they have an obsession with working out and being fit. Girls are posting and sexting in order to get the attention from the boys. He also shared some of the apps the teenagers are using and how editing photos is becoming the norm. I liked how he included scriptures throughout the book to assist parents in having important discussions with their teenagers. I believe most readers will be able to learn how to raise their teenagers in a worldly environment that is ever changing. This book will help you in setting a Godly foundation to influence your teenagers in the years to come.

May It Be So: Forty Days with the Lord's Prayer by Justin McRoberts and Scott Erickson Book Review

In May It Be So, Justin McRoberts and Scott Erickson explored the Lord’s prayer in this new book for 40 days. The disciples asked Jesus how they should pray and Jesus told them the Lord’s prayer. This prayer discusses God’s kingdom and how we should pray for His will to be done on Earth as it is also in Heaven, our daily bread, forgiveness, and staying away from temptations. Throughout the book, they discussed the different sections of the prayer and included a few days’ worth of prayers focused on that topic. The prayers were only about a sentence long to help readers to pray. They also included illustrations and drawings next to the daily prayers.

I would recommend this book on prayer to anyone is seeking to pray the Lord’s prayer a little deeper. I liked how the book contained prayers to guide readers into praying prayers geared towards the Lord’s prayer. The prayers were simple and they were written to help readers to learn how to pray more to their Creator. One of my favorites prayers was, “May I never let my fear of being afraid keep me from facing darkness around me.” I liked how the illustrations were unique and very different and they included dogs, boats, lighthouse, and countless other designs. If you’re looking for a new book on prayer, then read this book!

Love Changes Everything: Finding What’s Real in a World Full of Fake by Micah Berteau Book Review

In Love Changes Everything, Micah Berteau explored the topic of love and how love can literally change our lives for the better if we will just let love overflow. He begins the book by telling a story about a childhood trip to Six Flags and how he got lost from his parents. He saw the ice cream stand and disobeyed his parents and got separated from them. He shared how he feared he would receive a spanking or lose his Nintendo. He eventually was reunited with his parents and his dad surprised him by telling him how much he loved him and how he missed him. He also told him never to leave him again. This story changed Micah’s life. Micah shares how much God loves us even though we are sinners and God will never leave us. There is nothing we can do to receive His love or to earn His affection. Micah speaks directly to the readers and reminds them that they are loved. Throughout the book, he explored the story of Gomer and Hosea. Hosea was a prophet and a follower of Christ. God told him to marry Gomer who was a promiscuous woman. Many people were shocked that a prophet would marry such a woman as her especially with her past. This story showed how God choose to still love Israel even though they disobeyed his word and went down the path of idolatry. The story continues that Gomer went down the path of adultery again and God told Hosea to go get his wife back and love her. Scriptures share how God illustrates that He still loves Israel even when they struggle with idolatry.

I would recommend this fantastic book to anyone who is tired of not finding love and they keep searching for love in all the wrong places. There is a lot of fake love in this world and the real true love can be found in Jesus. This book will help readers to see that God is love and His love is the one they need and it will change their lives around. I immensely liked how Micah shared the story of Gomer and Hosea and how he explained God’s love is endless and how he loves us even when we make mistakes and sin. One of my favorite chapters was when he explored love in the Bible in 1 Cor. 13. This was a great reminder about how we should all walk in love and how we should live our lives. I also loved how Micah reminded readers to dream again, date again, go back to work again and work on a higher level, and worship God again. If you’re looking for a new book on love and you’re searching for a true love, then read this one and find it in Christ’s open arms!

I Am Redeemed: Learning to Live in Grace by Mike Weaver and Jim Scherer Book Review

In I Am Redeemed, Lead singer of Big Daddy Weave, Mike Weaver opens up about how he became a Christian singer and how he struggled with his true identity. He begins the book by opening up about being nominated at the K-Love awards for Song of the Year. Their song, “Redeemed” won and Mike was very surprised that he didn’t even plan a speech. The song was a huge success for them and the song connected and changed countless people lives. Afterwards though, he felt that he failed and he struggled with self-hatred. He admitted that he felt stupid and he didn’t ever why to get up and perform in front of anyone again. He shared how he was listening to the lies of the enemy. Throughout the book, he opens up about where all of these feelings began and insecurities. Most of his insecurities began in his early childhood. He grew up mostly in Gulf Breeze, Florida. One of his earliest memories was being laughed at because of how he drew Pac-Man as a letter e on the board. He felt so ashamed and stupid afterwards and he didn’t ever volunteer for another thing again. He also shared how he desperately wanted to fit in and he would do anything his so called friends wanted to do.

The next part of the book covered how he became a Christian and how he started into music and how loved to play the guitar. He shared how he would play guitar with his brother Jay. Mike also shared how he went to college and how he struggled with anxiety and how he sometimes skipped class. He admits to leaving the classroom sometimes to avoid being called on by the teacher. During his college years, he revealed how he led worship and how he eventually started Big Daddy Weave and they were an indie band. He also shared how they eventually signed with Fervent despite the band telling them no the first time. He also shared how he met his future wife Kandice who was a marketing director at the label.

I would recommend this awesome book to anyone who enjoys the music of Big Daddy Weave. This is one of the best books I have read in a long time! I have always liked them since their first single, “In Christ” and met then band once at an event. I connected with Mike’s story about struggling with anxiety and insecurity. I felt not good enough most of my life too and it was a great encouragement to see how Mike dealt with his own struggles. I loved how he revealed how he was able to overcome and push through the challenges he faced and many times others helped him along the way. I really liked the story of Operation Restored Warrior and I immensely believe this will greatly help readers to deal with their own painful past. If you’re looking for an inspiration book, then read this book!

Beauty in the Breakdown: Choosing to Overcome by Julie Roberts Book Review

In Beauty in the Breakdown, Julie Roberts opened up about her music career and how she dealt with the highs and the lows she faced. Julie grew up in Lancaster, South Carolina with her two other sisters, Marie and Lorie. Julie was the middle child. Her dad was an nuclear engineer and he was a strong man who believed his money was his money. Julie shared countless stories about them having to escape and run to her granny’s house when her dad become violent from his drunkenness. Her mother was abused and had bruises and black eyes many times. He was also cheating on his wife but her mom stayed with him for years because of the stigma of divorce. Julie shared how she started singing in her childhood and how one of her biggest influences was the style of Barbara Mandrell. Her mother would spend her own money on her daughters and she would buy music tracks for Julie where she could perform at different events. She even played at nursing homes where she met Carol a young girl who was in there because she had MS. She opened up about how this girl changed her life and influenced her. Julie shared some stories about going to college and how she eventually landed a job at Mercury Records in Nashville as a receptionist. She was promoted to Luke Lewis’s assistant. Luke was very vocal about how he would fire anyone who wanted to be a singer so Julie vowed to keep her singing a secret. During this time, she mother finally divorced her father and she made the move to Nashville. Julie revealed how she met a producer named Brent Rowen. They recorded one of Julie’s hit songs, “Break Down Here” together. Eventually, he took it to Lewis and a few other top label makers listened to it and Julie was signed to Mercury Records and had a deal for 7 albums. She opened up about touring with Rascal Flatts and Chris Cagle. Julie also shared the highs and lows of eventually being dropped after two albums. She shared the struggles of trying to make a comeback in her music career and what she learnt along the way. She also opened up about how she found out she has MS and legions on her brain and how she has chosen to use her voice to raise awareness on the disease.

I would recommend this awesome book about Julie Robert’s life story. I haven’t heard most of her story before reading this book. I wasn’t aware of all of her hardships and challenges. I was shocked about some of the secrets she shared about touring and the music industry. I didn’t realize that many opening acts don’t get paid by the labels that many times they have to paid the headliner to allow them to join the tour. And I personally think there should be some changes to that. She also shared how hard it is for a female to get radio time which, I agree they should play them more. I remember in the 90’s growing up listening to Shania Twain, Jo Dee Messina, Faith Hill, Martina McBride, Dixie Chicks, and SheDaisy. I do feel like they have stopped playing females as much as they used too. One of my favorite songs, that she sings is called, “Somebody Does” and this one talks about when we are at our lowest point and we feel like we aren’t love and nobody cares it reminds us that somebody does. I immensely connected with Julie Robert’s story and I believe many readers will enjoy reading this book. I highly recommend this book if you’re feeling lost and need some encouragement in your own life!

Point of View: A Fresh Look at Work, Faith, and Freedom by Elisabeth Hasselback Book Review

In Point of View, Elisabeth Hasselback opened up about being a contestation on Survivor, and a co-host on The View, and Fox News. She started the book by sharing how when she was a fourth grader she struggled with reading because she couldn’t see clearly. She shared how at the time she didn’t realize how bad she couldn’t see. This lesson taught her that not everyone sees the same and we all have different points of views. Elisabeth revealed how God’s lens are different than our own and we can choose which lens we choose to see with. Later in the book, she shared how she worked as a shoe designer for Puma and how she was good at sports and art. One of her coworkers encouraged her to compete on Survivor. She opened up about how she was picked. She shared a crazy story about attending a jump school and what this taught her. She eventually made the cut and was on the second season of Survivor and she went into great details about her time on Survivor and the challenges she faced. Later, she was chosen for a hosting spot on the Look for Lesson the E! network. She eventually was let go and she wound up being selected for a cohosting spot on The View. As many people who has seen the show, Elisabeth had some extra challenges on the show because of her beliefs in Christ and her political view points and sometimes she clashed with different cohosts on the View. In the book, she also shared how she met her husband Tim, who was a player in the NFL and she shared some of her tips on her marriage and the challenges she has learned in raising their three children.

I would recommend this awesome book to anyone who enjoyed watching Elisabeth Hasselback on Survivor, the View, and Fox News. I used to watch the View every day when Elisabeth Hasselback and Sherri Shephard was on the panel and I loved their personality and I connected with a lot of their view points. I stopped watching when they were removed and I haven’t really ever watched the show again regularly since then. I loved the debates and loved how Elisabeth and Sherri shined a life for Christ. I immensely was excited to read about Elizabeth story and I loved how she shared Christ’s message throughout the book. I didn’t know much about her personal life before the View or really after the View. It was really nice to see how bold Elisabeth was in front of the camara and off. I highly recommend readers and fans to read this book and may it all remind us to always try and look at life through God’s point of view.

Her father had just died in a terrible car accident and her family moved to West Monroe, Louisiana. After two months of trying to get pregnant, Aly thought she was experiencing the pregnancy symptoms, and then she noticed a lump in her breast. She made an appointment with her doctor. Aly was diagnosed with breast cancer on October 17, 2011 at the young age of 24. It was classified as stage III and they had to travel to Houston for her treatments. The doctors warned Aly that they might not be able to have children. At first, the doctor suggested they meet with an infertility doctor but the cancer was too aggressive that they couldn’t wait. She shared about becoming cancer free. They also shared about their journey with trying to get pregnant and their battle with infertility. Josh also created a blog for them to share with followers about what they were going daily. They also shared about how they ended up with being casted in a reality tv show on TLC, called Rattled.

I would recommend this life changing book to any cancer patient, anyone battling infertility, anyone who is looking to adopt, and they need some inspiration about someone who has been through difficult times. I immensely connected with their story and was reminded that God is still able to heal and He can still perform miracles if it’s in His will for their lives. I love how they both shared their experiences about what they were feeling during everything and how they were transparent with their readers. The book will be a blessing to anyone who is going through tough times and it will encourage them by reading how God is always there.

In Stepping Up!: Discover the Power of Your Position by Johnny McGowan Book Review

In Stepping Up, Johnny McGowan explored how we can all step up and service and volunteer right where we are today. His parents taught him the importance of being faithful in the small things where he would be prepared when bigger opportunities came his way. Johnny shared how we serviced at Lakewood Church and how he would run the behind the scenes tasks, such as doing some filming, editing, and programing. Eventually, this led to Johnny leaving his father’s construction job and taking a job with Lakewood. Joel Osteen recognized his positive attitude and thought he would be a good fit for a position at the church. Johnny described how he had to listen to God’s voice. Throughout the book, he explained how critical it is do sow seeds of service and doing so not because we are wanting to clap for us and show us appreciate for doing so. We must be more concern for pleasing God and he shared the scripture of working like we are working for God. Johnny opened up about how we are all a part of the body of Christ and how we each can service and make a difference for the advancement of Christ’s Kingdom.

I would recommend this awesome book for anyone who is ready to serve in whatever role God has them in right now. We can all serve and be a blessing and we can all work together for the body of Christ. I liked how Johnny McGowan shared personal stories about how he served and what he learned from God. I also liked how he included new steps questions at the end of each chapter and he also included a prayer. I also liked how he looked at Biblical stories and one of my favorites was the one about Parables of the Talents and how two servants invested their gold and made more. And one servant buried his gold and earned nothing. I loved how Johnny pointed out that they both did what came instinctively and they didn’t ask what they were expected to do. Johnny shared many more insights about being a faithful servant for Christ’s Kingdom. If you’re ready to step up and make a difference, then read this book!

Crushing: God Turns Pressure into Power by T.D. Jakes Book Review

InCrushing, T.D. Jakes explored what believers need to do when they experience heartache and pain and they feel like they are being crushed and unable to get back up. He starts the book out by revealing the big news of when his world fell apart. His teenaged daughter became pregnant at the age of thirteen. A few months prior he watched his own mother die from Alzheimer’s. Jakes was very real in sharing all of his questions and statement he said to himself during this time. He wondered how he failed as a father and what he could have done differently. He shared with readers on how experiencing a crushing we are forced to choose to reply on God as our guidance. Years later, Jakes shared how now his daughter is married and how his grandson has turned into a great man. The crushing feeling his daughter had to feel when her life changed now, she able to see how God turned into something good. Throughout the book, Jakes describes the process of fermentation from grapes into wine. He also went into detail about how he was thrown another curveball a few years later when his son had a heart attack and Jakes was preaching in another country. This led Jakes into looking at why we suffer and the sadness and fear Mary must have felt when Jesus died on the cross for our sins.

I would recommend this excellent book on crushing and how God can change and turn anything around for good. We all experience pressure and pain in our lives no can escape it. When we go through bad things, we can decide to rise above it or be crushed from the pain. I liked how Jakes compared to crushed to how grapes are crushed and how they are left to ferment and then they are made into great wine. Many of us like to rush the process of moving forward through whatever painful event we are facing. But often times the bad times immensely help us to grow into the person God wants us to become. I also liked how Jakes explored the story of how Jesus turned water into wine and how Jesus can turn our lives around. The book contained many Biblical stories to illustrate how others in the Bible handled pressure. If you’re looking for inspiration book, then read this book!

The book looked at Israel, Russia, Babylon, America and much more and their roles in the end times. The book discussed how Russia will attack Israel and how they will invade them. The book explored radical Islam and how they murdered countless Christians and how many have struggled persecution. The book also looked at rapture, Heaven, antichrist, false prophet, two witnesses, mark of the beast, and the new Heaven.

I would recommend this eye-opening book on anyone who is curious about the end times and they want to understand what is to come in the near future. This book is a great book to reach unbelievers and this book has the power to help influence them into believing in Jesus Christ the Messiah before it’s too late. I immensely love how Dr. David Jeremiah really shared scriptures throughout the book to help readers comprehend the scriptures found in Revelations. I learned a lot about the new Heaven and what Christians have to look forward to. I also learned what is to come in the tribulation with the antichrist, false prophet, and how the world will be in chaos. I also liked how thick the book was and you can tell Dr. Jeremiah put his research in the book in writing the book. If you’re ready to learn about the end times, then read this book!

In Exceptional You: 7 Ways to Live Encouraged, Empowered, and Intentional By Victoria Osteen Book Review

In Exceptional You, Victoria Osteen explored the seven truths of becoming the person God made you to be. She wanted every reader to understand how much God loves them and their unique gifts. The book begins with “Put on your Crown” and this chapter looked at the life of David and how he was the youngest son and he was watching the sheep when God decided to call forth David’s true value. Jesse, David’s father was told to summon up all the seven brothers by Samuel. God chose David to the next king of Israel. Victoria reminds readers the God has chosen each of us to call us His own we all have a purpose and a plan for our lives. It took thirteen years for David to become King and he was tending sheep when God declared him to be the next appointed King. The story didn’t stop there King Saul wanted to murder him and there was countless times David could have decided to end Saul life. But David chose to forgive him. Victoria also shared how she was led to be a speaker at Lakewood Church and how she also does their Nights of Hope events alongside her husband, Joel Osteen. She opened up about how God introduced them and how God gave her the right gifts for each of the assignment she had to go through. Throughout the book, she shared about how she was afraid to pray out loud and how Joel’s father, John Osteen would ask her to pray and she turned him down. Eventually, she gained courage and strength and is now able to get up every Sunday and pray and speak and encourage people. Victoria was able to dive into God’s word and let Him transform her life to be used to make a difference in people’s lives.

One of my favorite stories was one she shared about a guy who was depressed and he turned to his pastor for help. He proceeded to explain how nothing good was going on in his life. He grab a pen and wrote down and listed everything that was going good in his life and in another column wrote down what was bad. He started writing down his wife passed away, house burnt down, and other things until finally the man realized what the pastor was doing. The guy was able to gain a new outlook on life and he realized that not everything was a disappointment. Victoria shared with readers the importance of thinking right and how we can set our eyes on the promises of God.

I would recommend this life changing to anyone is struggling with discovering the person who God made them to be and maybe they are feeling discouraged and life is just beating them down. I immensely loved the stories that she shared about her own life and stories from other people. She also included scriptures and stories to address her 7 ways to live and exceptional life. We weren’t created to live stressed out, discouraged, or worried about what the day is going to bring. I also liked how Victoria Osteen recapped the key points to having exceptional thoughts in your daily life. If you’re looking for a positive book, then read this one!

In The Theft of American’s Soul, Phil Robertson opened about the ten lies that is destroying our country and what the real truth of the matter is. Some of these included God is dead, the devil isn’t real, God didn’t create life, sex is for self-gratification, virtue is outdated, laws can be ignored or changed if they are inconvenient, unity is not possible, and much more. Phil starts off at looking at the Timearticle that appeared in the April 1966 edition. The article explored the question, “Is God Dead?”. It looked at different views of God and how He disappeared and many people turned to other beliefs. Phil discussed how he came to realize that this article wasn’t true and that there is in fact a God.

Next, Phil shared about how he was a sinner and how enjoyed living a life following his own rules. He grew up in church but didn’t really understand the real truth of the gospel. Phil was all about hanging with his rowdy friends and they all partied, got high, got drunk, and slept around. He did what he wanted even though he was married and had children. He lost his job as a high school teacher and he then went to work at a bar. He got into a violent fight with the owner and they pressed charges and he was living on the run from the police. He hid and worked on a offshore rig while Miss Kay sorted out the legal issues. They started arguing more and Miss Kay eventually walked out on him and after ten years and took the kids with her. Phil was still living it up with his party buddies and sleeping around and he started feeling guilty, but it took a while for him to wake up and see the damage that it costed him. He eventually hit rock bottom and he stated that he would change. The whole time Miss Kay was praying for him. She called a preacher and he shared the good news with Phil about Christ dying for him and how he needed to repent and let God change his life around.

I would recommend this amazing book to anyone who needs to the hear the truth about Christ and his teaching. Many people are believing the lies of satan and they are following what the world believes to be true. Phil doesn’t shy away from being open about sex before marriage, abortion, violence, and how everything is destroying America and even the world. Phil is a great example of a modern day Paul who also changed his life around and reached a great number of people. I liked how real Phil was and how he doesn’t change his views to fit what the world wants to hear. I can tell Phil through some of the stories, that he shared that he believes the Good News and he isn’t afraid to share it with anyone who will listen. Phil opened up about how he was cut from Duck Dynasty because of some of his statements and how believers fought to have Phil back on the show. I connected with reading through Phil stories about how he is a sinner and how I’m a sinner and how I need to repent from my sins. If you’re looking for an excellent book on standing on Christ principles and rejecting the lies of the devil, then read this book and let it influence you!

Win From Within Finding Yourself by Facing Yourself by John W. Gray III Book Review

In Win From Within Finding Yourself, John Gray opened up about the painful truths he found out about himself when he lost everything. He was a successful pastor, was on TV, and was an author. On the outside of his life, everything looked okay. But in reality, his marriage was in serious trouble. His wife walked out on him and took his kids and moved back in with her parents. He was forced to relook at his life and face his childhood and how he was acting as a husband and father. Throughout the book, he looked at the story of Jacob and Esau. They were twin brothers and Jacob was always second. John Gray connected with how Jacob was always trying to be something he wasn’t. Jacob wanted to be first in everything. This is what led him into tricking his father into giving the firstborn son, Esau’s blessing. The firstborn son received double blessings. As we will see when John Gray digs into the whole story, many of us our like Jacob, we’re trying to figure out who we are and who we are in Christ. He also shared how Jacob was given a new name by God and how God redeemed him and still loved him despite his past. In the end of Jacob’s story, it told about how he won his race.

I would this life changing book to anyone who is ready to face the truth of who they are. I enjoyed how detailed John Gray went into his own life and how he wasn’t afraid to share his struggles in his childhood and how this affected him still in his adulthood. I liked how he compared his story to Jacob’s and I recognized how my own life has similarities. We all have a past and we all struggle with finding out who we are and sometimes it’s extremely difficult to face the truth of who we are. We are all broken and we all have a past that is something hard to face. But we can find freedom, when we dive into God’s word and discover who we truly are, this can change us. If you’re looking for a book to help you face the truth about yourself, then read this book!

Us Against the World: Our Secrets to Love, Marriage, and Family by David and Tamela Mann with Shaun Saunders

In Us Against the World, David and Tamela Mann discussed the secrets of how they have managed to stay married for over thirty years. The book begins by telling readers who they both grew up and how they met. One of Tamela friends, Nicole introduced her  by inviting her to meet the Humble Hearts. She knew Tamela could sing so she introduced her to the group. The group consisted of David Mann, Darrell Blair, and Kirk Franklin. They begun to sing together as a group and they went on tour together for many years. They both opened up throughout the chapters taking turns describing and sharing what was on their hearts. David was very open in being honest about how he had multiple girlfriends at the time when he met Tamela. He also shared about how he told Tamela how he was going to become a dad with one of his ex girlfriends. At this point, they were only friends but she was a close friend to him through this. Eventually they would become great friends and eventually fall in love. David also shared about how he proposed and how he randomly asked while driving on the freeway. They also opened up to how they ended up getting pregnant before marriage and how they dealt with the fears of what people were going to think.

They book also went into detail about how they rose to fame and the struggles they experienced along the way. They shared how they met Tyler Perry and how they had their own tv show, Meet the Browns. Throughout the book, they revealed how they made their marriage work over the years and how they both enjoyed doing life together at work and at home. In one of the chapters, they went through their vows and what each one of them means for marriage couples. In the second part of the book, they added a prayer and an activity to help married couples to grow closer together.

I would recommend this amazing book to anyone who wants to improve their marriage. I truly believed this book will encourage readers to work towards their marriage being the best it can be. I have always enjoyed David and Tamela Mann in their hit tv shows and they are always wonderful in the Madea movies. You can tell they both have a great personality and they get along great on screen and off. This book showed how they have to collaborate and work together as a team and how they have to decide to act like Christ every single day. I also liked how they both cut up throughout the book to do add a touch of their humor in their marriage. If you’re looking for a book to read about marriage, then I highly recommend reading this one!
