Peace for the Season: 40 Devotions for Christmas by Joel Osteen Book Review

In Peace for the Season, Joel Osteen has written a brand-new devotional covering the Christmas story. He starts by reminding readers how Isaiah foretold about Jesus being born and how He is gift to all people. Jesus is called an everlasting God, Counselor, and Prince of Peace. He shared how we need to focus on the true meaning of Christmas and it’s easy to dwelt on getting last minute gifts, decorating, and running place to place to celebrate with loved ones. Throughout the book, he will explore the birth of Jesus and how Mary was instructed that she would be carrying Jesus. The book is divided into a few different topics such as, “God’s Got This, Peace with Yourself, Sleep On”, and much more. The first area he discussed was about how God has got this. He stated that Mary was probably excited but also a little confused because she was a virgin. She had to choose to believe in the promises of God and that He would take care of her. Joel explained how we can get lost in our difficulties and challenges and we need to be reminded that God has it and that He is complete control.

I would recommend this awesome devotional for everyone for Christmas because this would make a wonderful gift to give this season. A lot of us are struggling with living in peace and we need to be reminded that God is still in control and we don’t have to live frustrated or broken down. I immensely loved how the book contained the whole story of Christmas and even some on the teaching of Jesus. One of my favorite topics was the one on sleeping and how Joseph was told while he was sleeping to marry Mary even though the child, she was carrying wasn’t even his. I loved the other part of the story about how Jesus also told his disciples to sleep on before he tried three times for them to wake up and pray with Him before his arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane. I liked how Joel used this story to showcase how we sometimes need to have the mindset of sleep on and to not be bothered by things we can’t change. We can instead focus on God’s power and how He is well able to do the impossible. I loved all of the peaceful reminders included in this book and I think it will assist in bringing peace to us during the Christmas season and even afterwards.
