The Power of Aligning Your Words to God’s Will by Hakeem Collins Book Review

In the Power of Aligning Your Words to God’s Will, Hakeem Collins teaches readers how to command your morning and to speak the Word of God over your life. He explained how in Job 38:12-13 there is a verse that describes how Job was instructed to command his morning and this will also cause the dawn to know its place and the wicked will be shaken. In the book, he walked readers through on how to align our words with God’s written Word. We can also declare our breakthrough from sickness, fear, financial freedom, deliverance, and much more. Some of these verses included ones on favor, protection, and being a friend of God. He looked at the power of the spoken word and how God created the world with His words. Hakeem explained how we must be careful about the words we are speaking over our lives. He shared how the average person speaks around 7000 words a day. He also shared how Jesus warned that we would give an account for all of our words. He also described how we have the power to decree and how this has to ability to change a person’s beliefs. He explored how God made His decrees to King’s and spiritual leaders in the Bible.

I would recommend this life changing book to anyone who is ready to learn about the power of words, commanding their morning, and decreeing God’s Word over their lives. One of my favorite things, he revealed was how he doesn’t believe in the saying, “actions speak louder than words”. Hakeem explained how he thinks that words have more power to influence us negatively. Many of these words can harm us mentally, emotionally, and psychologically for life. I agree with how we tend to believe that saying more when it isn’t true. I think many use that as an excuse to claim words don’t hurt as much. This in turns helps them not to feel as bad when they allow their tongue to do whatever it pleases. I also loved the second section of the book and how it covered how to decree God’s word over our lives. These included marriage, friendships, family, work, physical health, finances, mindsets, community, and much more. I immensely love how he related them all back to scripture and it’s very easy to read them aloud again and again for when we need them.

He Loves You So: Falling Deeper into God’s Heart A 366- Day Devotional Book Review

He Loves You So is a new 366-day devotional. The book is based on 1 John 3:1 and how we are commanded to look with wonder at God’s love, He has called us, and made us His beloved child. The book begins discussing Adam and Eve and how they walked with God until they sinned and was separated from the fall. The serpent questioned God’s love for them and caused them to doubt. This devotional goal was to assist us in walking daily with God and to be reminded of His incredible love for us. The book went in order of the scriptures throughout the entire Bible. Each day included a verse, prayer, and a declaration.

I would recommend this awesome devotional to anyone who is seeking a devotional on how much God does love us. One of my favorites was the one that reminded us of how God formed us in the womb and how God chose us. He wanted just you and the way you are. Another favorite is John 14:27 and how Jesus left us true peace. He reminded us not to be afraid or troubled. We can instead reply on peace that only Jesus can give us. The devotional is short and they can be read and prayed in under 5 minutes. They are very refreshing and they contain the words that we need to reminded of daily that God does love us completely.

My Review:

The Flirtation Experiment is a book that is written to help add the spark and fire back into your marriage. Lisa has been married for 30 years and Phylicia for 7 years. They have both teamed up to create this flirtation experiment to help improve marriages. Each chapter they rotate between the two of them. Many of our marriages have lost our passions and adventures and we get stuck in the day-to-day routine. They begin by sharing how we tend to watch Hallmark movies and we see the characters always ending with happiness and marriage. They also shared how 59% of romantic novels readers are aged 30 to 54. They pondered why women are looking for romantic outside of their own marriage. The book was written to assist women in learning how to pursuit their husbands and to add the fun of flirtation back into their marriage.

One of the topics they discussed was playfulness and Phylicia opened up about how she enjoyed playing fun pranks on her husband and this caused them both to laugh together. She even went as far as joining into playing video games with him because she knew her husband enjoyed them. She shared how this helped improve intimacy in their marriage.

Another favorite was the one on passion. Lisa was open with how one day she pushed her husband away because she was upset that he come home late. She admitted how she had to overcome her own self-pity and self-focus. She explained how instead she choose to embrace him and wrap her arms around him. In this chapter, she encouraged readers to read Song of Solomon.

I would recommend this wonderful book about this experiment project on flirtation to any women who is ready to get that spark back in their marriage. It’s geared towards women but men can also benefit from reading the book and learning how to improve their marriage. I immensely enjoyed how this book enclosed thirty ways to add fuel and fire back into your marriage. Some of my favorite topics was attraction, respect, affirmation, adventure, and laughter. I loved the idea of watching your spouse and how they handle the kids, help around the house, and noticing it and writing it down as words of affirmation. I do believe that if you do this experiment and actively try and be a better spouse and friend, then we will see a big change in our marriage.

Dear Hartley: Thoughts on Character, Kindness, and Building a Brighter World by Jedediah Bila Book Review

Dear Hartley is a personal book that Jedediah Bila wrote to her son. Each one is written like a letter addressed to Hartley and her goal is to help the next generation. The book contained topics such as health, fitness, family, character, empathy, chivalry, and much more. In the book, she opened up about career changes. She attended Columbia University and had a full intent to finish their PhD program in Spanish literature. She completed their master program then she chose a different path. She shared how she worked for an insurance company and she went on another path when she missed the memo that she was supposed to be in the Twin Tower on September 11. She went on after that to search for meaning in her life. She then wanted to pursue acting. Then, she moved on to teaching at a college and then a Catholic school. She moved on to writing and wound up on TV. She opened up about her being on Fox & Friends Weekend and later on becoming a host of The View. She used these experiences to encourage her son about the lessons she learned along the way. In the book, she also shared about how she met her husband and she tries to leave her son a legacy of letters.

I would recommend this wonderful book to anyone who is seeking a positive book about leaving a lasting legacy for the future generation. I liked how she did this book and how it was written in the style of letters to her son. It’s not your typical autobiography book. I loved how she discussed character traits, breathing, empathy, heartbreak, and mindset reset.  One of my favorite chapters discussed her health and how she dealt with acid reflex and how she learned about health and eating right. I really connected with this chapter and how she opened up about finding out she had Lyme disease. In reading her story about it and how she felt. I too at first had fatigue, headaches, numbness in one side of my face, and felt like I was going to die. Many doctors unable to help me but blame it on depression for my pain. I did eventually recover like she did. It was encouraging to read that I wasn’t alone in my health struggles.

God Made You Too Written by Chelsea Tornetto and Illustrated by Kimberley Barnes Book Review

God Made You Too is a book about God created the universe, stars, and planets. He then decided to make you. God also made the ocean deep and all the creatures. He made the seasons change and the snowflakes fall. He made each person a heart and a song within them and a hand to give to others. It explained how he knew the world needed a special gift and He choose to make us as a gift to the world. It ended with Genesis 1:31 and how God saw all He made and how everything was good.

I would recommend this wonderful book to children aged 1-7. I loved how the book enclosed a message about how God created the whole world and all the creatures. The most important creations was in fact, you. I loved the colorful illustrations and how there is a lot of hidden shapes in the pictures. One of my favorite ones was the one of the whales, dolphins, sting rays, octopus, and fishes. The whales have little stars and more little shapes on it and it makes the designs very bright. This book will capture the attention of children and provide a message about how much God loves you and created you.

Nothing: Nothing Can Separate You From God’s Love! Written by Natalee Creech and Illustrated by Joseph Cowman Book Review

Nothing: Nothing Can Separate You From God’s Love is a children’s book about God’s love for us. It stated how no mountain, valley, sea, hailstorm, winter, volcano, and traveling the world can separate us from God’s love. There is nothing too powerful and the book explained how God’s love is deep and wide. It also explained how God’s love doesn’t change with any words we may say or anything that we may do. It ends with describing how we are loved and forgiven and how God has adopted us and we are child of a King.

I would recommend this inspiring book to anyone who is looking for a positive book to influence our children’s lives. The book would be great for anyone aged 1-7. I immensely loved the colorful pictures in this book. They are very detailed and I loved how bright the ocean appeared in it. This book contained a wonderful message about God’s love and it displayed how nothing can keep us from God’s love. No weather event, no mountain, valley, and there is no place we can hide. The book conveyed how much we are loved and how God has adopted us as His own.

God’s Love is Like Sunshine Written by Sarah Parker Rubio Illustrated by Dream Chen Book Review

God’s Love is Like Sunshine is a children’s book about God’s love and how His love is like sunshine and how God smiles at us. It compares His love to pancakes and how He pours out His love to us. It explained how when we hear a song love is like music. It described the love in feeding a dove or holding a baby. There are countless examples included about nature, helping others, loving, and relating it all about to God’s love to us.

I would recommend this awesome book to anyone aged 1-6. It described different ways in which God can show us how much He loves us. I immensely liked how the book explored it in terms that kids can relate to such as pancakes, dancing, singing, and nature. I liked how there was a lot of rhyming in the book and it will make it fun for children to read and enjoy. I felt like the book touched on all of our five senses too and tried to help us to understand more of God’s love for us. I also liked it taught on the fruits of the spirits such as kindness and gentleness.

The Story of Abraham Lincoln Written by Patricia A. Pingry Book Review

The Story of Abraham Lincoln and how he was the sixteenth president of the United States. We celebrate his birthday on February 12. He was born in 1809 to a poor family. His mother passed away when he was 10 years old. He loved to read and write and he studied to become a lawyer. It discussed the issue of slavery and how he was opposed to it. This led to a divided country and the start of the Confederate States of America. He led us in the Civil War and he voted to end slavery by writing a proclamation.

I would recommend this awesome book about Lincoln’s life to children aged 2-6. I immensely enjoyed how the book was a building block to start teaching history to our children. It keeps everything at their level and it’s not to heavy. It’s contained a very basic overall look at his life. I liked how it covered how against slavery he was and what he did to try and end it. The illustrations were very colorful and appealing to keep our children’s attention while they learn a little about history.

The Story of George Washington Written by Patricia A. Pingry Book Review

The Story of George Washington is a children’s book covering his life and it explained who we celebrate him on President’s Day. He was the first president of the United States and he is known as the father of our country. He was born on February 22, 1732. He is famously known for him chopping down a cherry tree in his childhood and he was very honest to openly to admit it. The book touched on what he did and how many farms he managed. It discussed the Revolutionary War and how he signed the U.S. Constitution. It revealed how the United States was named after him.

I would recommend this children’s book to any child aged 2-6. It described the life of George Washington and the background where kids can easily learn about America and the first president. I immensely loved how it gave a quick overview of his life and it taught children history. This book could easily become the first building block of American history for our children. I loved how colorful the book was and how it helped to catch kid’s attention.

Church People Movie Review and DVD Giveaway

CHURCH PEOPLE is now available on DVD & Digital!

• CHURCH PEOPLE is a Christian comedy about the megachurch mega production sub culture and getting back to the simplicity of the Gospel, starring Christian comedian Thor Ramsey, Hallmark Channel’s Erin Cahill, Stephen Baldwin, Donald Faison, and NSYNC’s Joey Fatone.

• We could all use a good laugh right now, and Church People is a movie your whole family can LOL to from the comfort of your own home!

• This film has a powerful message about rediscovering your passion for Christ and learning to surrender what you hold dearest, all told in an incredibly humorous way.

• Synopsis:

Weary from the showiness and materialism that has overtaken his ministry efforts, Guy (Ramsey) goes on a journey to get back in touch with the heart of ministry and be a real role model to his youth group kids. He makes the difficult decision to cut short his speaking tour managed by his money-focused agent (Faison) after realizing that his reputation has become more fame based than Gospel-driven. But when Guy attempts to return to regular youth ministry, he is thrust into the throes of dissuading the youth group from performing a strange and potentially blasphemous stunt for the upcoming Easter service, starring a young, zealous new Believer, Blaise. In attempting to manage his youth group while navigating an unexpected love interest in the Senior Pastor’s daughter (Cahill) and being a new father to his grown daughter (Manfredi), Guy ultimately rediscovers and puts on a powerful presentation of why we all need to put our hope in Jesus and not in ourselves.

My Review:

I watched this movie for the second time in over a year. I was reminded about how a lot of churches/speaking engagements try and add fun activities in order to lure in new believers and to keep it fresh where people will keep returning. This movie is all about trying to focus just on the Gospel and the true message. Joey Fatone buys a over the top character and he sings constantly trying to impress the pastor’s daughter. He is attempting to win her in marriage. In viewing it a second time, there is parts you forget about. One of these was the character Blaise and how his parents are a “yes” parents’ system. They allow their son to do whatever he pleases. He wanted to be the one to participate in the crucifixion reenactment and his parents were all in support of it. It has a powerful message about not forgetting the true message of Christ instead focusing on the teaching of the Gospel.

Tiger Rising Movie Review and Giveaway

Film Synopsis:

Queen Latifah and Dennis Quaid star in this beloved tale based on the New York Times best-selling book by Kate DiCamillo. When 12-year-old Rob Horton (Christian Convery) discovers a caged tiger in the woods near his home, his imagination runs wild and life begins to change in the most unexpected ways. With the help of a wise and mysterious maid, Willie May (Queen Latifah) and the stubborn new girl in school (Madalen Mills), he navigates through childhood memories, heartache, and wondrous adventures in this heartwarming adaptation.

My Review:

I would recommend this movie to children from middle school aged to high school. I think some elementary level might be able to watch the movie but parents would probably to watch it first to decide. I liked how the movie touched on bullying, physical, and verbal abuse. It was heartbreaking to witness how judged this little boy who suffered from a rare rash that was a medical condition. He wasn’t allowed in school for most of the movie because they are afraid it’s contagious and there was a great deal of judgement towards him. He meets a new girl at school who has a rough childhood with an absent father and she believes he is coming back to get her. I will say I didn’t care for this little girl’s attitude in the movie. She just seemed very hateful and bossy. In the movie, we see their imagination grow and they meet a tiger and they want to set it free from the cage. I do believe my most favorite actress in the movie is Queen Latifah hands down. She played a maid and she added motherly wise to the movie. One of my most favorite things, she had was a conversation with Rob about his legs and the rash. She explained to him how to let the sadness rise up. Dennis Quaid played more of a jerk in this movie and cared more about himself only. The boy’s father wasn’t much better in my opinion when the boy’s mother died (played by Katharine McPhee). He was told to pretty much stop crying because it wouldn’t bring her back. There was a lot of sadness, hurt, pain, and even some abuse from bullying in the film. It covered a lot of difficult topics present and there is a number of different emotions with the main goal of how important it is to handle our emotions.
