My Review of the Livestream:

Anne Wilson did a special album releasing livestream on Wednesday, April 27. The show lasted a little over an hour. At the very end, she answered some fan questions. She performed some of her biggest hits so far. She belted out the lyrics to “My Jesus”. She explained a little about how it was written and who she wrote the song with, Matthew West and Jeff Pardo. The biggest surprised of the night to me was when she brought out Hillary Scott from Lady A. They teamed up on an amazing song about Mamas. There harmonies were spot on since this was the first time, they performed it live together. At the very end of the night, it was cool to see she has broken records at such a young age especially in Christian music.

  My Album Review:

1. Prelude (Scatter): I liked the intro to this song and it’s basically just instrumental and it reminded me of an opening for a live show.

2. Scatter: This one is about how our praise is gonna shake down the walls of Jericho. It will cause our enemies to scatter. The word of God is powerful and is our shield.

3. My Jesus: is a personal story about the death of her beloved brother. He was killed in a car accident in 2017. The lyrics of this song is beautiful and you can see why it’s such a hot song on the charts for over a year now. It discussed how many of us may be weary and carrying too much. She explained to listeners about how she is going to tell us about her Jesus. It talked about how Jesus makes a way and how He rose from the grave. It described Jesus and His love for us.

4. Devil: This one discussed how the devil was celebrating and thought he won the fight. He was in for a surprise when Jesus rose from the grave and our sin went running away. The song turns around and explained how the devil got scared and death is coming to the devil.

5. Sunday Sermons: This one talks about her salvation and how those Sunday sermons changed her. She could hear Jesus telling her how much He loves her. It makes a powerful statement about how the devil is going to try to take us out of church but you can’t take the church out of me. I personally liked this one the most of the album. I enjoyed the meaning behind the song and how the devil can try and take us out of the church but even if we don’t have the church the message of Jesus is still going to stay alive. I also liked how at the bridge, she sung a little of Jesus loves me and I thought this added me more to our church upbringing.

6. Hey Girl: This song is a wonderful song to women about how they are listening to others about their worth when they need to be listening to God. She stated how you need to repeat after her the chorus and declare it. She is blood bought and all of our shame is gone. This song is a great reminder of how much God loves us and where to find our true worth. On this track, her voice reminded me of Maren Morris and she seems to have the same tone like she does.

7. This House: is a song about our house and how it needs to be centered on God’s word. If you lay our trust in anything else then our house will fall. I liked how this one explained how we can put up crosses and stain glass but if it isn’t built on the word of God it will fall.

8. Mansions: This one is probably my second top favorite on the album. This one discussed how we have a mansion waiting for us in Heaven. This one is a celebration of the life to come after we die if we believe and received Jesus into our lives. It also talks about how we will get to have a reunion with our loved ones.

9. Mamas (with Hillary Scott): This is a song about Mamas and how important they are. The lyrics describe our connection to our mothers or a motherly figure. They are there for our scraped-up knees, wiping our tears, remembering that they are always there for us, and reminding us to never giving up on our dreams.

10. No Place Like Home: is another song about remembering there is no place like home. It describes her and her brother hanging out and playing together. It explained how she misses him and how she wishes time will just slow down.

11. God Thing: Another favorite would be this one. This song included ways that God shows up in our lives. This could be someone changing their ways, getting healing, and finding money in our wallet. We can learn to see it as a God thing.

12. That’s What We Need: This one explained how we need to be the hands and feet of Jesus and have the faith to move mountains. It’s about loving others and how the world needs us to be like Jesus.

13. Something About That Name: This one described the name of Jesus and how we pray it over our families, speak it out, sing it out loud, and how it changes us. There is incredible power and how it sounds like amazing grace.

14. Closer To God: This song is about feeling lost and been brokenhearted. This brings us closer to God. When we have lost hope and felt alone really, we were closer to God.

15. My Jesus (feat. Crowder): This one begins with Crowder singing and feels like a powerful worship song. It has more of a Hillsong church vibe. They are great at harmonizing together and their voices blend perfectly together. I wouldn’t be shocked if this one is also sent to radio at some point.

Overall, I enjoyed watching and listening to the whole album. I believe this album will continue setting records. She may even go on to be the Taylor Swift of Christian music. I can also see her going on to add more country style into her work. I think personally she has that southern sounding vibe to our album. I also loved how she has worked with High Valley and covered Boondocks by Little Big Town. I immensely loved the message she shared about losing her brother and how open she is in sharing the pain and how God has always been there for her. I believe listeners will be able to connect to her lyrics and gain a closer relationship with Christ.

In The Rooted Life, Justin Rhodes has written a how to book on how to plant, harvest, and raise chickens and cows. He started his own YouTube channel and own streaming platform, Abundance+. His family lives on a 75-acre family in Asheville, North Carolina. He explained his families’ reasons for planting and growing their own vegetables, fruits, herbs. They also have chicken for eggs and cows for milk. Some of these reasons included: better health, way to earn extra money, having fun, better taste, understanding where your food comes from and you can control the hormones and pesticides. He shared suggestions on how to build different types of gardens such as: container garden, bulletproof garden, raised beds, and crop gardens. He has tons of tips on watering, planting, weeding, dealing with bugs and pests, and harvesting. He discussed tips on how to have a winter garden and how to properly cover them plants from the cold temperatures. He also discussed raising chickens and even using them eventually for meat.

I would recommend this inspiring book to anyone who is looking to begin their own garden and they have no idea where to begin. I liked how he stated that everyone can garden and you can do it with working in whatever area you currently live at even if it’s a small apartment. I immensely loved how he gave tips on watering and how to tell if you’re watering enough or not enough. This book has tons of tips and ideas on all different garden types. I loved how the book included very beautiful pictures of his garden and different angles they used for some of the shots. I also loved the recipes enclosed in this book and I’m curious to try no-crab breakfast casserole. In the book, he also shared how he battle chronic Lyme disease and struggled with having energy, felt tired, and wanted to sleep all the time, and a mentally foggy brain. I immensely connected with this part of his story since I too have had Lyme and struggled to keep working during this difficult season. It was encouraging to see that he shared how he was able to keep milking the cows and taking care of his farm.

Trusting God in All the Things: 90 Devotions for Finding Peace in Your Everyday by Karen Ehman & Ruth Schwenk Book Review

In Trusting God in All the Things, Karen Ehman and Ruth Schwenk have teamed up to write a devotional that will assist us in getting peace. These devotionals are meant to help us have a refreshing encounter with God each day. Each day they take turns by writing the devotional. Each day had a verse, a short story, questions, and a prayer.

Ruth begins by exploring the topic of stress and feeling overwhelmed. She shared how she had a few miscarriages, a husband diagnosed with cancer, her son applying to college. She explained how she had extreme stress and felt the burden of the overwhelming pressure. She revealed how Jesus was also overwhelmed and the stress of dying on the cross. The scripture verse for this day discussed how Jesus was in anguish and how He prayed and how His sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.

Another favorite was when Karen discussed peaceful sleeping. She shared how they got a security system to watch and listen in on what going on around the house. She used this example to explain how Jesus will watch over us while we sleep. I have personally experienced nights of tossing and turning and not sleeping well. Many times, it’s because of how we worry about things instead of trusting God to protect us and take care of us.

I would recommend this amazing devotional to anyone who is ready to grow in their faith and they are tired of living stressed out. Each day had a personal story to give your encouragement that you aren’t alone in your struggles and challenges of life. The verses enclosed is to assist you in trusting God and obtaining peace no matter what we may face. I loved the blue and gold design of this book and how they had random gold dots throughout the pages. It was a very eye appearing color designing choice for this book.

Awake: Paying Attention to What Matters Most in a World That's Pulling You Apart by Anjuli Paschall Book Review

Awake is Anjuli Paschall’s second book. This book is about learning to embrace our lives and to live them to the fullest. She stated how we spend most of lives on putting things on hold. We wait until we are married, have a better job, wait to have kids, wait until the weekend, and much more. She explained how she struggled with the fear the something is missing and having carpe diem syndrome- the fear of not living life to the fullest. She shared how she wanted to live her life awake and live it to the fullest. A big key she discovered is to having meaning connection to others, calling, voice, creator and this assist us in living our lives more fully.

In the book, she shared how she had to use courage when she was faced with a small tumor near her pituitary gland and the only thing, they can do is treat it with medication. This could also cause her not to be able to have children. The doctor explained what her name means, “the fragrance released from a love offering”. She explained how we need to at our past and reflect on our story and suffering. He looked at how God changed names in scriptures, such as Abram to Abraham, Jacob to Israel, just to name a few. In Revelation, it is revealed that God will give us all new names. She explained how important it is to have meaning in our lives.

I would recommend this awesome book to anyone who is ready to begin to live their life and not focusing on things that doesn’t matter. I loved how she went into great detail about how she awakening her own soul and how we can learn to enjoy the small moments. I also loved the story and concept of the Moth party and this is an event where people gather to share their personal stories that changed their lives. I immensely loved how she opened up about dealing with her rejection and how only six RSVP for her birthday/moth party. I loved how she spoke on acceptance and receiving God’s love.

Who Do I Think I Am?: Stories of Chola Wishes and Caviar Dreams by Anjelah Johnson-Reyes Book Review

In Who Do I Think I Am, Anjelah Johnson-Reyes has written a personal story about her life. She is a stand-up comedian and her most famous viral video is of being the nail salon lady. She also starred on MadTV as Bon Qui Qui and later even released a whole album as that character. She starred in The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, Enough Said, Our Family Weddings, and guest starred on Ugly Betty, The Shield, Superstore, and much more. She was even an extra on Friends. She was born and raised in San Jose, California. She begins the book by sharing how she at first wanted to be a lawyer growing up and then she realized she wanted to become an actress. Throughout the book, she will reveal our journey on become a comedian and an actress. She also shared stories about Hollywood and the entertainment field. Another big part of the book was how she became a Christian and grew in her faith. She shared her dating adventures and how she eventually met her husband, Manny who is a Christian recording artist, Group 1 Crew.

One of my favorite stories was about the topic of stray dogs and how she always wanted to rescue them. She always wanted a dog of her own and it took her husband a few years to break down and let them get one. One of her stories involved heavy rain and a wild chase to catch the dog for over four hours. I loved the humor she added to the story and I can just see her feeding the dog and trying to bribe it and acting like a crazy kidnapper.

I would recommend this awesome book to anyone who is needing a good laugh and they have enjoyed watching her comedian shows. I remember seeing her nail lady salon video and laughing at it. I also remember even more her starring as Bon Qui Qui. This character is hilarious and if you have ever worked in customer service you can very much relate to her. I was a super MadTV fan growing up and I wish they would have kept her on the show longer. I also appreciated the chapter on her setbacks and how she didn’t always get the role or the part. Sometimes it was from her own decision like the time, she passed on Pitch Perfect because she didn’t feel like it would line up with her Christian values and then the movie turned out not to be too raunchy. She had to live with her regrets or passing on that one. She revealed how this taught her to keep moving forward and she hopes this will inspire others to keep dreaming and be themselves.

Family Camp Trailer Releases May 13

Short Synopsis:

When their pastor encourages the congregation to sign-up for a week away at family camp, Grace believes she’s found the perfect cure for her imperfect clan—even if they’d all rather be anywhere but at rustic Camp Katokwah. The first feature film from The Skit Guys, FAMILY CAMP is a laugh-out-loud comedy that will touch the hearts and tickle the funny bones of every family member from eight to eighty.

I’m excited to see the new movie. The film looks like a fun adventure waiting to happen. There appears to also be humorous scenes such as the four wheeler catching fire. There will be fun competition between the families on who will win the trophy. I’m curious to see Robert Amaya (Courageous and Moms Night Out) in this film. He plays the role of director in this movie.I was also surprised to see Leigh-Allyn Baker starring in the lead role for the film. She was on Good Luck Charlie and Will and Grace. I think she will add fun humor to the film. Mark Christopher Lawrence (Chuck) plays the role of the church’s pastor. I was also excited to see Rhett Walker perform and I can’t wait to see which songs he sings. I can’t wait to see this family friendly film.

Where’s My Easter Basket? By Bob Holt Book Review

Where’s My Easter Basket is a cute little Easter children’s book about how a butterfly asked a blue bird where his Easter basket is. The blue bird goes on an adventure trying to located an Easter basket. He meets jelly beans, a dyed egg, a chocolate bunny, and a yellow chicken. They are determined to find the basket in time for the big event. They have to walk, scoot, and fly everywhere.

I would recommend this cute children’s book to any child aged 1-6. I especially loved the bright Easter colors enclosed in this book. The bluebird reminded me of the angry bird game. It was a very fun book that will capture our children’s attention and it would make a great gift for an Easter basket addition. My favorite design was of the jelly beans and how they walked around and road a scooter and added a fun appeal to theme of the book.

The Story of Easter Written by Patricia A. Pingry Book Review

The Story of Easter is a children’s book about Jesus dying on the cross for our sins. It covered briefly the message of Easter and did it in a way to teach children what the true meaning is. It begins by showing Spring time and bunnies and flowers blooming. It described Jesus as the Good Shepherd and how Palm Sunday started. We see his journey to the cross and how He has risen and it explained why we go to church to sing and worship.

I would recommend this book to children aged 2-8. I immensely loved how colorful and detailed looking the animals were drawn and painted. I loved the air brushes they used and the whole book reminded me of Spring time and Easter. My favorite was the nature scenes and the animals hiding throughout the book. I think children will enjoy picking out all the animals. I enjoyed how it taught children about Jesus being the Good Shephard and how He loved us and died for sins. It’s a great beginner’s book about Easter and Jesus.

With God I Always Have Hope: A 90-Day Devotional by Baker Publishing Group Book Review

With God I Always Have Hope is a brand-new 90-day devotional. It designed with the intend for readers to be able to read a quick devotional in under two minutes. Each day contained a verse, short story, a reflect question, prayer, declaration, and an action. The book is based on how Jesus reminded readers that He would be us always. They remind us of Isaiah 40:31 and this stated how hope in Christ can renew our strength. These devotionals are meant to encourage readers to always have hope no matter what they are currently facing.

One of my favorite days is about how a laugh is redeemed. This one discussed Sarah and how God promised they would have a son. Sarah was old and way past the age to have a child. She laughed when she was told she would have a child. They explained how a year later she had a son, Isaac. His name means laugher. God was able to replace her cynicism with joy and hope. She was able to break free from her disappointment and God’s promise come to pass.

I would recommend this incredible devotional to anyone who is needing more hope in their life. I immensely loved how each day contained helpful encouragement to deal with our disappointment and fiery trials. I loved how each day was built to cause us to hope and believe in God and have faith that anything is possible. I loved the declarations and how there was an action to help us live out each day. I also liked the cover of the book and how each page reminded me of fishing on the ocean with Jesus. There were great blue color tones in each page.

Ordinary on Purpose: Surrendering Perfect & Discovering Beauty Amid the Rubble by Mikala Albertson, MD Book Review

In Ordinary on Purpose, Mikala Albertson explored the power of laying down the need for a perfect life and instead learning to appreciate and finding the beauty in everyday life. She opened up in the book about how she tried to hide from others about her failing marriage and how her husband was addicted to drugs and alcohol for over seven years. She was also raising two children at the time. She begins the book by sharing how she tried to blend in and to be a chameleon in high school and college. She strived to be perfect and to fit in whatever circle she was currently in. She got good grades and went on to become a doctor and appeared to be a good student. But she also shared how she would do pot, drink, and do things to follow the circle of her peers. She opened up about how worried she was that she would discover her husband has died because of his addiction. She shared how she tried to heal him and to pull him out of his pit. She revealed how attending meeting and opening up about her troubled marriage and her husband addictions she was able to get healing in ways she didn’t expect. She was finally able to stop pretending that her life was all together and perfect. She revealed how God was there for her and how He assisted her in forgiving and healing from the pain.

I would recommend this inspiring book to anyone who is tired of pretending to have their life all together. This book will remind readers that nobody has a perfect life and we can find healing when we learn to surrender and embrace the ordinary in life. I liked how open and raw she was in sharing with readers details about her marriage and how she had dealt with her husband being addicted. I immensely loved how she revealed how she found healing and forgiveness and was able to repair their marriage. I also loved how she shared how he was able to break free from his addictions. This book is powerful in assisting readers on learning to break free from perfection.

About the book, The Mulligan:

THE MULLIGAN is based on the beloved book by former PGA touring pro Wally Armstrong and bestselling author and business executive Ken Blanchard. This inspiring story about relationships, forgiveness, and priorities is a shot of grace. Golf's gracious do-over, a mulligan is the beginning of Paul McAllister’s second chance. Guided by the wisdom and advice of the Old Pro, Paul learns about priorities, self-confidence, and playing a good game both on and off the course. The Mulligan is a parable of second chances.

My Review:

The Mulligan is a movie about a leading business executive and CEO, Paul McAllister and he is a workaholic. Paul is separated from his wife for five years. His wife is a big time Christian and believes and prays for her family and still has hope. He doesn’t really have a relationship with either his son anymore. One day, he is participating in a charity gold event to try and connect with another business leader. During the game, he allows his anger to the best of them and he breaks the golf club. One of the golf introduced him to Old Pro and he tries to influence him and teach him what a mulligan is and how he can have a do over with his family. His son is also a professional motor cross racer who gets into a serious accident. His father is forced to take care of his son and we get an inside look on the pain his son feels.

I would recommend this awesome movie to anyone who enjoys golf and is also seeking a story about forgiveness and a strong message about second chances. I loved watching Eric Close in this movie and fans will recognize him from Nashville, Suits, Criminal Minds, Without a Trace, the Magnificent Seven, just to name a few. I also liked seeing that Gary Weeks was in this movie and fans will recognize him from Outer Banks. I immensely enjoyed watching him act in a movie that had such a positive message about second chances. I liked seeing the relationship change between father and son and the message on how they were able to reconnect. This movie is also very family friendly and it’s a movie to keep re-watching. I also loved how the older pro golf was able to teach Paul the importance of life and the power of second chances.
