Just Getting Started: Stepping with Courage into God’s Call for the Next Stage of Life by Wendy Peter Book Review

In Just Getting Started, Wendy Peter has written a book about chasing after your dreams and creating a road map to make that happen. She begins the book by revealing how she was 50 years old before she decided to start living her dreams. She explained her struggle with keeping her dreams hidden for many years. She opened up about he was able to connect with Patricia King (pastor, author, and TV host) and was eventually asked to take over the spot of director for the Women on the Frontlines in Canada. She shared how the Bible called us to be the light of the world. She looked at how Jesus healed a blind man and stated that He was the light of the world. She also shared how we are also called to be a city on a hill. She revealed the scope of the false line and how countless people have stopped at that line and they believe they have hit their own finish line and completed their race, when in fact G     od still has more for them. In the book, she also looked at the importance of figuring out your why. She also went into details about identifying your what and your spheres of influence, ministry gifts, and hobbies/interests/practical skills and this in turn will assist in designing your dream.

I would recommend this incredible book to anyone who is ready to start dreaming again and they are wanting to pursue everything God has for them to complete. I loved how open Wendy was in sharing her own personal story about how she went after her dreams in her 50’s. I immensely loved the story about how she met Patricia and God opened up a door for her to lead women in ministry. I liked the principles she included in the book especially about finding out our what’s and why’s and how everything could fit together to help form our dreams.

Trick or Treat: You’re So Sweet! By WorthyKids and Illustrated by Dean Gray Book Review

Trick or Treat: You’re So Sweet is a Halloween themed children’s book with a flip and flap feature. This will keep children engaged in the story adventure. The book was written with a riddle and then a door that readers can lift up to try and guess what costume theme is behind it. Some of these include cowgirl, super hero, princess, and more.

I would recommend this awesome flip and flap book to children aged 3-7. I immensely loved the adventure and how children can try and guess who is knocking and trick and treating at the door. I loved how they included multiple different costumes that will make this a fun book to read together with your children. Bedtime Snuggles by Patricia Reeder Eubank Book Review

In Bedtime Snuggles, Patricia Reeder Eubank has written a children’s book about how different animals settle down at night and snuggle up and get cozy for the night. Some of these animals included chickens, bunnies, horses, raccoons, mice, lambs, foxes, owls, and more. The book shows how each animal gets ready for bed. In the end of the book, it shows a parent getting a child ready for bed by praying and cradling them.

This book is a wonderful book for any child: baby to aged 6. The book is made out of the hardcover cardboard where kids can’t tear it up as easily. The book contained a tale about bedtime and getting ready for a peaceful sleep. This would be a good book for parents to read together at bedtime. The illustrations are beautiful and you can see the details presented in the animals and their fur. I loved the farm themed animals and this will capture the attention of little ones.

The Happy Crab by Layla and Kevin Palmer Illustrated by Guy Wolek Book Review

In The Happy Crab, Layla and Kevin has written a brand-new children’s book about the adventures of a happy crab in the ocean. He travelled on the back of a whale one time to Haiti. He hunted treasure, surfed the waves, and went all over the world. One day, he was sleepy and fell asleep in a shell. A boy discovered the shell and loved how beautiful the shell was and it wasn’t broken like many of the others. He was picked up by a little boy and they took him away from the ocean. Eventually, they realized that there was a live crab inside the shell. His parents encouraged the boy to return him to the ocean. Before they returned him, the boy gave the crab the name happy.

I would recommend this awesome children’s book to any child aged 1-8. I liked how the book was kind of illustrated like the author appear on the back of the book and it’s based on personal true story. This book had a great message of putting others and their needs before our own. This is one of the secrets to true happiness. The boy could have easily kept him and chose to kick him out of his shell where he could have a nice shell to take home and display to his friends. I loved the ocean theme and the bright colors presented in the book. There is a lot of attention to detail in the illustrations.

You Are Stronger Than You Think: Unleash the Power to Go Bigger, Go Bold, and Go Beyond What Limits You by Joel Osteen Book Review

In You Are Stronger Than You Think, Joel Osteen has written a brand-new inspirational book encouraging readers to stand firm in and not to let life circumstances overwhelm them. In the book, he is determined to help readers to overcome the cycles of defeat and to handle the pressure of life. He explained how God has already given us the power to deal with the pressures of life and the challenges are designed to make us stronger. He begins the book by sharing a story about the Mariana snailfish. This fish can survive at the very bottom of the ocean and this is the only fish that can in that amount of pressure. This fish has very unique features that allow it to live at that depth. He uses this story to illustrate how we are all able to handle whatever pressure we may be facing in our life. This might include raising children, financial, relationships, illness, business pressure, and whatever else life can throw at you. He went into great details about how we can learn to have a can-do mentality and through Christ we are well able to accomplish and can handle it.

In the book, he also encouraged readers to invite God into their difficulties. He explained how when we go through challenges a lot of the times, people are praying to God to get them out of the difficulty. This could include a bad illness, financial, or a work issue. He stated how instead we need to be inviting God into the challenge and to learn to grow from it. We need to allow God presence to come into our lives and in whatever we are going through. He looked at the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and how they refused to bow down to King Nebuchadnezzar golden idol. He had them thrown into the fiery furnace and it was turned up 7 times hotter. Joel reiterated how God could have delivered them first thing but He chose to allow them to go through the fire. He reminded readers that we wouldn’t have known God was healer or that God could move mountains if we never had any obstacles. God did eventually deliver them and they weren’t touched by the fire and there was a fourth man reported in the fire with them. He revealed how important it is to not complain instead we can choose to praise and to stand firm that no weapon against us will prosper.

I would recommend this awesome book to anyone who is tired of living stuck in life and they are always hoping and praying that they will have no more difficulties in life. I especially enjoyed how he shared that we need to be inviting God into our challenges and difficulties and how this can help us grow stronger. This book will guide readers into becoming stronger and to not reply on our feelings or the pressures of life. I immensely love how Joel reminded readers to take off the negative labels that we are wearing and to also take off can’t do mentality. I liked how he encouraged readers to keep walking on and to stay obedient and how we need to live by faith not by what we currently see.

Marriage Ain’t for Punks: A No-Nonsense Guide to Building a Lasting Relationship by Calvin Roberson Book Review

In Marriage Ain’t for Punks, Calvin Roberson has written a new guide book on how to handle life with another person. He has been a counselor for over 25 years, a pastor, and a relationship expert on TV programs. He begins the book by sharing the meaning behind the word punk. This term is meant to be used to describe a man who wasn’t a real man and you didn’t have what it takes to face the challenges that may be coming at you. He explained the divorce rate and how it has started to decline partly because people are trying to make it work. Another reason is that young people aren’t getting married and it’s hinted that it could because people are afraid, they will have an unsuccessful marriage. He first explored marriage CPR’s and how these compounds are the keys to thriving in marriage. These included commitment, passion, and respect and he shared how without each one of these what happens to our relationships. The book also looked at the 7 ways in which we communicate with one another and how we can effectively communicate and show a true interest in others.

One of my favorite quotes was, “ten minutes of preemptive discussion about an issue can save you ten days of unnecessary tension and conflict.” He explained how he is excited when he is told that the couple is arguing and this means that all they are needing is assistance in finding resolutions. He also shared how change is inevitable and how we can all learn to recalibrate through the different stages of life together. One of the powerful lessons is the one on how we need to not view marriage as the center goal of complete true happiness.

I would recommend this awesome to anyone who is seeking a book that will help them in changing their relationship with their self and their spouse. The book contained countless principles and methods on helping to make your marriage stronger and greater. I immensely enjoyed the topics about communication, vulnerability, arguing, apologizing, and forgiving. I also enjoyed the truth he included about how most marriages don’t begin until one of you are ready to walk out on the marriage. In reading this book and applying the principles found in it, they have the potential to change your marriage.
