• “Excellent presentation of a life changed by Jesus” - Fred Higgins from Assembly of God

• Synopsis: Set in the peak of the 1960s Civil Rights movement, “Paul's Promise” is the inspiring true story of Paul Holderfield, former racist firefighter-turned-pastor who started one of the first integrated churches in the American South. It’s one man’s journey to hope and healing during a troubled time in our Nation’s history that resulted in one man’s decision to serve God and stand up to injustice - a story that continues to make a huge impact on the community to this day.

My Review:

I immensely enjoyed watching this new film that touched on racist and segregation in a difficult time. It was heartbreaking to see how Paul would ignore his best friend who happened to be Black when in front of his other peers. Paul’s character was also a guy who had a serious addiction to drinking and he didn’t treat others very nicely especially his wife. It was very enlightening to see Paul eventually change his life around and choose to service God and he started one of the first integrated churches in a time where it wasn’t approved was frowned upon. It reminded me of a modern story of Saul become Paul in scriptures. I also thought how they included Paul’s mother battling health issues added to the dynamic change of Paul. She was a praying woman who wanted her son to carry on and pray for her prayer list. I also liked how they had Dean Tanaka in this film playing the captain. He is always good in whatever he stars in. Many fans will recognize him from Christmas movies to serious crime roles. This film displayed a powerful message about loving others and always remembering that anyone can change and sometimes that starts with a simple prayer.
