The Pursuit of Porsha: How I Grew into My Power and Purpose by Porsha Williams Book Review

In The Pursuit of Porsha, Porsha Williams has written her personal story that has taken years to be written in a book. She begins the book by sharing how her parents got divorced when she was about three years old. Her father was committing infidelity. She opened up about how her father treated her and her brothers. For punishment, he would close them inside their rooms and was told not to come out. She explained how many times he would forget and leave them in there for hours. This led her to try and become perfect and this is something that she still struggles with to this day. She also shared how she dealt with grief from when he passed away. She also shared how she was bullied in school and called names. One of the names was flat-chested, skinny, big-eyed stick. She hated school growing up and often dreamed of being inside her room at home, safe from the world. She admitted to having depression and experienced suicidal thoughts. She thought about taking pills but feared that she would be brain dead and she would leave her mother with that trauma. She did tie a scarf around her neck and to the door to see what it would feel like to not be alive. She also opened up about how she was raised by two entrepreneurs and this helped her to be trained on how to become a boss and lead others. In the book, she went into details about how she come to having a role on the Real Housewives of Atlanta and the drama that she experienced while being a cast member.

Another major area that she shared was about her past relationships and how they all affected her emotional, physically, and even spiritually. One of these was her relationship with her ex-husband, Kordell who was an NFL player. She explained how she prayed to God for a husband and a year later she met him. She revealed how they started dating and how controlling he was. He eventually stopped allowing any of her friends and family to come over to his house. Her name was left off of the deed of their house. He wanted her to sell her daycare business she created. He made her become a housewife to help raise his son. She explained how she believed he married her was in order to look better to the judge where he could obtain full custody from his ex. She eventually became pregnant and had fibroids and miscarried. She experienced a lot of emotional pain from having to carry a baby that she knew she was going to miscarry and a husband who could care less. He chose to go a golfing tournament instead of being present.

I would recommend this awesome book to anyone who enjoys reading autobiographies. I haven’t ever watched the Real Housewives of Atlanta, though her cast member, Nene did come into my tag office. I immensely enjoyed how she shared how she has a historical family connection to Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless and how God has used her to bless others through this charity. I also liked how she was transparent about becoming a boss and leading others and even founding her own daycare to help children. But I will say, the best part that I liked about the book was reading about her relationships and how they affected her. Even though, she went through horrible things and was forever changed by them. She was able to overcome and still go after God’s purpose for her life. One of the most heartbreaking stories to me was the R. Kelly victim stories and how it led to her to being questioned by investigators. She shared how she was taken advanced of and how many girls were sort of lock in directly in their rooms some for months at a time. One of things, I find most disturbing was how he told his sister how he was going to have a baby with Porsha but he had other women staying in room around the house, which she didn’t even realize all of that at the time. I appreciated how opened she was in sharing the details of her relationships, the behind scenes of the show, how she grew into her purpose, became a host on Dish nation, and founded two new businesses Pampered by Porsha, and Go Naked Hair.

The Giving Manger Written by Allison Hottinger and Illustrated by Emily King Book Review

The Giving Manger is a wonderful children’s book filled with a fun activity that the whole family can participate in. The book comes with a neat manger made out of wood, straw, and a baby Jesus. The book is based on the scripture verse found in Matthew 25:40b. The verse is about how if we do anything for someone else who is a least of these, then it is like we are doing it unto Jesus. The book tells the story of a family whose father decided to change up Christmas. They didn’t have a lot of money themselves. Her father would crave a special wooden toy each year for Anne and her brother, Ben. Her father announced how this year would be different they would do gifts everyday starting December 1st. Both children were so excited until they discovered that it was a different kind of gift. They would instead do a random act of kindness to be a blessing each day and then they could place a piece of straw into the wooden toy manger. They would be following the teaching of Jesus and serving others and being a blessing to them. On December 25, they would place the wooden baby Jesus into the manger.

I would recommend this inspiring children’s book to anyone who is seeking a new Christmas book to start a new family tradition with. I immensely loved the idea of the wooden manger and placing the straw into it and the power of serving others. I liked how Allison come up with this neat idea and they created this wonderful gift set to help families to come together to serve others. I also liked how she included special ideas from children, to teenagers, to families as a whole on how to serve. Some of my favorite ideas were: “make dessert for a neighbor, forgiving someone who hurt you, leave a kind note in a library book, take treats to a fire station, pay for a person behind you, pray for someone in need”, and much more. I also loved the illustrations and how they all appeared to look like wooden characters. This book and gift set would have a great Christmas gift to every child on their list, this season!

Hillsong United and Chris Tomlin Upcoming Tour and Giveaway

Are you ready for a brand-new tour announcement featuring hit Christian artists all on one stage?

Hillsong United and Chris Tomlin embark on tour on February 22, 2022. They will be on tour until April ending in my home state of Georgia. They will hit a total of 33 cities.

Chris Tomlin has tons of Christian hits on the radio and is an award winner artist. He has many different styles of worship songs and some have fast uplifting tempos and some are slower. He is one of the artists that seems to make the songs work. It will be interesting to see what songs he picks to perform for the tour since he has countless hits.

I remember the first time hearing his song “Indescribable”, “Holy is the Lord”, and “How Great is Our God” and this was the first album I purchased from him. I was in my teens and I would listen to this record over and over again.

Indescribable is a song written and original performed by Laura Story. This one is a song about how beautiful the creation and world is and how God placed the stars in the sky. It’s a worship song about how amazing our Father truly is and how God even controls the lighting bolt.

How Great is our God is another worship song about darkness trembles when you speak His Holy name. The song discussed how the God is made up of three names: the Father, Spirit, and Son. God is above all names and how He is worthy of all of our praise and honor. A lot of the chorus contains lyrics to remind ourselves about how great is our God.

One of my favorite songs is “God’s Great Dance Floor”. I especially enjoy this one cause of the beat of the song and how it makes you want to get up and move. This is a song about returning back to where it began and where God found us. This is a freedom type song and it reminds us that God will never stop loving us no matter if we run. He will never give up on us. We can all feel alive on God’s great dance floor.

“Our God” is probably one of his most popular hit songs and performed in churches around the world. It has even been in movies as an anthem to the power of our God. It discussed how Jesus was able to turn water into wine, opened the eyes of the blind, and out of the ashes we rise. It stated that our God is greater, stronger, higher, healer, and has power. The bridge is probably the most time listeners stand up and raise their hands to declare that if God is for us who can be against us and what could stand against.

Another favorite thing, I have really enjoyed was when Chris decided to do a country album featuring hit country artists: Lady A, Thomas Rhett, Florida Georgia Line, Chris Lane, Russell Dickerson, RaeLynn, Brett Young, Cassadee Pope, NeedtoBreathe, and more. Listeners have probably heard “Who You Are to Me” since it is a radio hit featuring Lady A. I love the lyrics of this song and how this one talked about who God is to us personally. The outside world will not understand that scope of true love but it is available for them to receive.

Hillsong United is a popular worship band that started in 1998 in Australia. It’s a youth band that was formed from the original church of Hillsong. I’m excited to see which worship songs they choose to perform since like Tomlin they have tons of albums to choose from.

One of the most popular songs is “From the Inside Out”. This song is about letting the love of God consume us. The cry of our hearts needs to be to give God praise and to reply on Him as an everlasting love. We need to surrender our wills and to instead focus on His purpose for our lives.

One of my favorite songs by them would be “The Stand”. This one first starts by explain how God stood before creation and spoke the world into forming. Next, it revealed how Jesus carried the cross and stood with the weight of our sins. This one is a song about standing in awe of God’s power and love with our hands lifted high.

Another popular song is called, “Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)”. This one is about being called out unto the water and how our feet may make us fall. It explained how God hasn’t failed us and how we need to put our trust into Him.

If you're ready for an awesome worship and family friendly concert, then go see them out on the road!

Persevere with Power: What Heaven Starts, Hell Cannot Stop by Samuel Rodriguez Book Review

In Persevere with Power, Samuel Rodriguez explored how to overcome your challenges and persevering through whatever you may be facing. The book started by discussing how different Biblical characters was able to overcome their own difficulties. These included Joseph being betrayed, David facing a bear, lion, a giant, and Saul, Elijah overcame Jezebel, Elisha overcame famine, and much more. He explained how we can prevail and have the power of God on our side. He looked at the Holy Spirit and what all of this entails for a believer. He shared a personal story about his oldest daughter, Yvonne and her battle with Covid-19 and had to be admitted because she was struggling to breath. She was in a fight for her and he opened up about the fears and the attacks of the enemy. He explained how we can choose to be let by our emotions or we can live by faith. A big part of the book, he looked at the lives of Elijah and Elisha. He also discussed 1 Kings 18 and 19 and the two big antagonists against them. These were Ahab and Jezebel and he explained how this is still going on currently in the 21st century. Both of these spirits are alive and destroying our world. This included manipulation, sexually, corruptions, killing joy, breaking the peace, and much more. He explained how if Elijah and Elisha have stopped trusting in God and His power then their story could have turned out differently than it did. The book will teach readers to be faithful and to keep pressing on and persevering through the challenges of life.

I would recommend this life changing book to anyone who is discouraged and they feel like quitting. This book will assist reader into growing spiritually and getting their fire and fight back to take a stand against the enemy. I immensely loved how in depth he looked at the story of Elisha and Elijah and also the spirits that are against us. One of my favorite things was the topic of what only God can do and this was a wonderful list to remind us of the power of God. Another favorite was in the last chapter about things we can declare that will die in our generations. These included addiction, sexual promiscuity, divorce, cancer, depression, suicide, and much more. I also liked how each chapter had a special section called, “push your plow, meet your mantle”. It contained questions and a prayer. This book is a wonderful reminder that hell can’t stop God’s anointing on our lives and we can all have the strength and power to persevere.

She Works His Way: A Practical Guide for Doing What Matters Most in a Get-things-done World by Michelle Myers + Somer Phoebus Book Review

In She Works His Way, Michelle Myers and Somer Phoebus have written a book about helping woman manage their busy working lives and instead focusing more on the things that matter most. They start by explain how women are pulled between different directions and the world is trying to convince them of what they can’t do and be. They shared how we crave God and we struggle with keeping God first. Michelle shared how she personally struggled with approval and it began in school with her grades, fitting in with other girls, and turned into male approval. She opened up about how she has a workaholic mentality. She shared how we can all turn to different idols such as: money, success, control, self, and stuff. We need to learn to replace our idols with worshiping only God. Somer was a little different in the fact that she needed to prove herself. She struggled with being in control and she realized that work was becoming her identity. In the book, they explored how the Gospel needs to be our jobs and our career should be our side focus. They looked at the life of Paul and how he a tentmaker and we didn’t read about how this was his main goal in life. He had a bigger perceptive of carrying out the Lord’s plan and reaching the Church.

I would recommend this wonderful book to women and it will benefit them from not seeking the sole satisfaction of their careers. They can instead seek God and go after what He wants for their lives. I immensely loved the chapter on love and what love is and how we are supposed to love others. This is one of the most core foundation of the Christian life. Another key chapter, I enjoyed was the one on approved. This one teaches us how to handle critics, how to handle quitting, and flattery. I also liked how the discussed social media and how this effects our brain. This chapter has the power to help readers to break the chains of people pleasing and instead live for God’s approval. This book will assist women in reprioritizing their life and focusing on His ways.

Conquer Your Deliverance: How to Live a Life of Total Freedom by John Ramirez Book Review

In Conquer Your Deliverance, John Ramirez has written a book about finding freedom and understanding how the satan will attack you. The book contained key principles from scriptures in dealing with spiritual warfare. He begins the book by comparing the Church to Gilligan’s Island. They are stuck on an island of rejection, rape, molestation, generational curses, despair, unforgiveness, and whatever else your island maybe. He explained how he himself was living on the island for 25 years of his life. He grew up with a lack of love from a father and his own father told him he was worthless and wouldn’t amount to anything. His mother was beat up and abused. They lived in poverty and he explained how his own mother took him along with his aunt to a witch’s house. They engaged in tarot cards and demonic activity. His father was a warlock and also believe in the dark principles. His father died when he was just 33 years old. He was shot in the face over a fight over another man’s girl. He explained how he met his wife and how they got married on Halloween to please the devil. History started to repeat itself and he was becoming just like his own father and passing down generational curses to his own daughter. He was held captive by satanic rituals until one day he heard a voice from God. He had a dream and he goes into details about how this changed him forever into believing in God. He also revealed how he was a misfit and looked at the life of David and how he was one too. In the book, he explored declarations for breakthroughs, prayers, and tools to handle the devil’s playbook.

I would recommend this life changing book on battling the devils plays and breaking free from his attacks. I liked how open he was in sharing how he was once a big time satan worshiper and how God was able to reach him and help him to break free. I immensely loved how many prayers and declarations this book contained. There is even a neat section in the back of the book of prayers. I also liked how he shared a personal story about his sister and how she passed away and how God wrote a love story between them. This book will show readers how to pray for their deliverance from the attacks of the enemy. This book will assist you in conquering the bondage that is destroying your entire life.

The Gift Shop Bear Written/ Illustrated by Phyllis Harris Book Review

The Gift Shop Bear is a book about a Christmas bear who lives in the gift shop and he only comes out of the attic at Christmas time. He is always so happy when he is able to see Annie. They shared a cute friendship together. They would share secrets, make crafts, have hot cocoa, watch the snow fall, and listen to the carolers. Many kids wanted to buy bear but he wasn’t for sale. At night, he would be placed under the display Christmas tree in the shop’s window. He would dread the day that Christmas was over and when he would be put back upstairs. Until one day, something happened to change everything the store was closing.

I would recommend this wonderful Christmas book to any child aged 3-9. The book is a very heartwarming story of a little girl and a bear and their special friendship. I liked how it had they both shared an everlasting bond and how they would both miss each other during the other seasons. The book displayed to children the importance of friendship and the longing to be together even when you’re far apart. I loved how colorful the illustrations were and how detailed they were. The book has the beautiful graphics to appeal to children.

I loved the Christmas theme and how the book teaches kids how to help others and to become a blessing to others. I immensely loved how they all come together to make the penguin happy with discovering a Christmas tree even if it’s not in the typical tree fashion that we would think of. 100 Prayers Every Christian Should Know: Build Your Faith with the Prayers that Shaped History by Bethany House Book Review

100 Prayers Every Christian Should Know is a brand-new book by Bethany House enclosed as a collection of prayers. The book discussed different prayers from key figures in history. Some of these included presidents, theologians, church leaders, and Bible characters. The book featured prayers from, “Dwight L. Moody, Charles Spurgeon, Harriet Tubman, Abraham Lincoln, Ronald Reagan, William Tyndale, Andrew Murray, John Calvin, Prayers for Grace for Meals, Jonah, Hannah”, and much more. Each day started by explaining who the important person was and what they did with their life. Next, there was a prayer and an explanation about why this prayer is important. The book has a few different sections of prayer such as, “prayers for peace and comfort, guidance and light in the darkest hours, changed hearts, nation to be moved, face of pain and grief, faith to be strengthened, humility”, and more.

I would recommend this wonderful collection to anyone who is ready to pray prayers from past centuries. Some of the prayers were very dark in nature but they showed the honest of the time and what they were experiencing. One of these was from Harriet Tubman and how she was praying for her slave master and how she wanted God to change his heart and then it changed to if he wasn’t going to then if he would just kill him. This show us that we can be honest and truthful to God. They compared her event to Moses and how he begged for Pharaoh to release the Israelites. I also liked the presidential prayers and how they prayed for the nation. There are tons of prayers included in the book to encourage readers to dig deeper into their spiritual growth.
