Soul Cure: How to Heal Your Pain and Discover Your Purpose By Gregory Dickow Book Review

In Soul Cure, Gregory Dickow explored the dynamics of your soul and everything that emcompress it. He discussed how we can work towards healing our soul and dealing with our soul thieves. These soul thieves included depression, shame, self-hatred, fear, guilt, and much more. In the book, he will share many different tips and suggestions on handing our negative emotions. He explained the power of the mind and how it is the single most important thing that we need to learn to control and think right. He opened up throughout the book about how the devil come to steal, kill, and destroy and how he is doing just that. He shared that 1 million people successful commit suicide every year. 20 million Americans are battling addictions. Many are trying to deal with emotional stress and to find freedom or something to stop the pain that is going inside us.

In the book, he shared his own struggle with depression and feeling so alone. He also lost his best friend, Randy to suicide and this left him with very few friends left. At age sixteen, he was hooked on drugs and alcohol. He didn’t know his worth or value. He revealed how his coworker reached out to him and brought him to Bible study and this was his real encounter with Christ. He accepted Christ and the light started clicking on and he was changed.

I would recommend this life changing book to anyone is seeking healing from the pains of life and they want emotional healing. One of my favorite teachings, he discussed was the power of thankfulness and how this is the key that drives miracles. I immensely loved that outlook on that. He looked at Jesus feeding the 5,000 and raising Lazarus from the dead. I loved how he shared we need to know that we are loved and that we need to believe before we see. He included a special check-up and how thankfulness affects us positively. All of these are awesome benefits we will received if we choose to practice thankfulness. I also loved how there was a special section after each teaching about declaring and praying to help readers in refocusing their life.

Eating with the Enemy Trailer and Giveaway

From the makers of Before the Wrath, Eating with the Enemy is a must-see film releasing this winter!

• Narrated by Kevin Sorbo

• Featuring several actors from The Chosen

• Synopsis: The Last Supper has been shrouded in mystery for nearly two thousand years, but new findings now unveil a lost warning from that unprecedented night; revealing why it was critical for Jesus to leave his disciples with a new commandment mere hours before His crucifixion. But to understand why the events of the Last Supper are so critical in these Last Days, you must experience what truly happened for yourself as a witness among the disciples that very night! Eating with the Enemy is narrated by Kevin Sorbo and features several actors from The Chosen.

• A note from the writer and director, Brent Miller Jr.:

Eating with the Enemy is a reference to Judas Iscariot who ate with Jesus at the Last Supper only to betray Him that very night and picks up where Before the Wrath (one of the top selling Christian films of 2020) left off! If “Wrath” revealed eye-opening evidence regarding why Jesus will return at the end of days, “Enemy” implores you and your loved ones to be prepared for when He does!

Eating with the Enemy will not only rekindle your hope and love for Jesus Christ, but is a film intended to reach the hearts of the lost like no other before it.

The tragic life and death of Judas as a living parable reveals a lost warning to the church regarding those that claim to believe in Jesus, but never receive salvation. Jesus warned His disciples of this when He said, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven...” (Matthew 7, 21), although they proclaim Christ and do works in His name.

Is it possible to know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, yet never be brought to saving faith? Is a ‘desire’ to follow God the same as doing so? Does proclaiming that you believe in Jesus make it true? These critical questions are answered by new and profound anthropological discoveries from the night of The Last Supper regarding the intentions and life of the film’s antagonist in contrast to other disciples and followers, including Peter and Mary Magdalene.

Remember, Judas followed Jesus, witnessed miracles, partook in the breaking of bread, and based on new cultural discoveries, even BELIEVED that Jesus was the prophesied messiah; just not the Messiah he wanted. Judas followed Jesus for worldly comforts, not to receive eternal life. When considering that less than 9% of Christians in the US agree with and adhere to a biblical worldview, how much of the church today has become the “Church of Judas”?

But all of this is still a foundation for the most profound discovery of all;

revealing why it was so critical for Jesus to leave His disciples with one final commandment mere hours before His crucifixion.

The audience’s call to action for Eating with the Enemy is Psalm 139:23-24; “Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me And lead me in the way everlasting.”

My Thoughts:

I’m really excited to see this film and to see the power of forgiveness. It looks like a very promising film filled with the message of Christ. I loved the name of the film and I thought it was a very catching title. I can’t wait to watch it!

My Review:

I loved this book! I liked how Jean crafted a book geared towards encouraging parents to start teaching our children about Christ right when they are smaller. I liked how she included her own personal story throughout the book and the parenting lessons she learned along the way. I loved how she included studies from George Barna showing how important it is to start working on their character and Christ principles. I didn’t realize how a child character was form by age 6. I also didn’t know that most people get saved before age 8. These polls were a little outdated since it was from 2004 and I’m curious to hear what it is now. This is my first time in hearing about Miss PattyCake and it was interesting to see how she wrote praise songs. She dresses up like the character and travels around the world engaging children and teaching them who Jesus is and how much He loves us. I loved the story about she went into full time doing this and how she was led by God to leave Women of Faith and their worship team. A major part of the book is the importance of praising Jesus. I loved how she shared how praising God will change our atmosphere, home, and our lives. One of most eye-opening statement shared was of a church sign that she saw while she was traveling. It basically stated, “whoever wants the next generation will get them.” This is a powerful statement that we can change the lives of our children and affect future generations for the better if we start raising our children with the message of the Gospel. The audiobook was wonderful to listen to and I loved her passion when she was reading out loud God’s word. I liked how she included tons of scriptures and I believe this book will assist readers into teaching the ways of Christ to every child we are bless to come in contact with.

The Homeschool Awakening Trailer

Short Synopsis:
Families across the nation are experiencing the homeschool awakening, taking advantage of the freedom and opportunities for self-discovery -- with the world as their classroom. Join award-winning actor, Kirk Cameron, as he dives into the adventures of dynamic American families on a mission to put fun and faith back into learning. The Homeschool Awakening explores the ins, outs, and honest answers to homeschooling’s most frequently asked questions.

I’m really excited to see this movie. I have always enjoyed watching anything Kirk Cameron is in. This seems like an interesting documentary about homeschool. It was shocking to witness all the news reports about how parents shouldn’t have control of our kids schooling. It appears there will a lot of personal stories about the decision to homeschool in this film. It seems like the man who was called stupid in school will have a good story to tell.

No Crowns in the Castle: Building a Strong Relationship and a Harmonious Life by Fantasia and Kendall Taylor with Hilary Beard Book Review

In No Crowns in the Castle, Fantasia and Kendall Taylor have teamed up to write a book about marriage and building a lasting relationship. As many people remember, Fantasia won American Idol in season three and is now an award-winning singer. Kendall is a successful businessman. In the book, they shared how they met and was married three weeks later. They have since been married for over 7 years and they have a blended family. In the book, she shared how her music contact was written and how she only got paid to perform. All the album sales and songwriting royalties went to other people. Kendall revealed his background and how he was shot twice and was a felony. He sold drugs in his teens.

The book begins by describing how she did an interview on the Breakfast Club. She explained that after she got married, she changed and stopped singing about the same things she used too. Her music and song choices changed on her latest album. She found love and she wanted to make music that brought people together. She went into discussing how women are trying to be the leader and we can’t be the king in the house. She stated how women need to be the queen. She also used a term about how women need to submit and how the queen is the most important piece in chess. This led to a lot of backlash after this interview. They explained how this is a Biblical principle and it requires trust and it can only happen when someone else is aligned with God. They revealed how they believe marriage is become not appreciated and not protected. Their main goal of the book is to help readers to know that marriage is possible and they can have a lasting marriage. They have provided ten topics to help us grow together as a couple. These included dealing with blended families, improving strong communication, emotional conflicts, dating for life, and much more.

I would recommend this awesome book on marriage to anyone who is looking for a book to improve their relationship with their spouse. I immensely loved how they discussed the conflicts of blending a family together and the challenges that come with it. I loved how they are both Christians and they shared how God helped them in building a strong marriage. I also appreciated and connected with how Fantasia compared submission and harmony to marriage and being in key and choosing not to overpower another person while you are performing together.

Behind the Lights: The Adventure of a Mum and Her Family by Helen Smallbone Book Review

In Behind the Lights, Helen Smallbone has written an autobiography about her life and her family. She has been more behind the scenes instead of on the main stage. In the book, she shared how she come to know Christ. She explained the story of how she met her husband, David and they had a total of six kids, two daughters and four brothers. They lived in Australia. She went into great detail about his history and how he began to work in the Christian community as a concert promoter. He worked with Petra, Stryper, Carman, Whiteheart, and a few others. She was very real in sharing the story of the three closed doors they faced as a family. She explained how her husband was good at budgeting and planning and promoting the shows. He really wanted to bring one Christian artist over and the tour ended up costing them a loss of $250,000. They were down about 40% and the touring manager and their team could care less. They pretty much told him he signed a contact and laughed in his face. She explained how these three closed doors led them into moving to America. She revealed her family work ethic and how they would all work together to make ends meet.

In the book, she shared how Rebecca St. James got her name and how she got signed as a Christian, recording artist. David became her manager. She explained the touring side and how each of her brothers would help out in different ways. She explained why Rebecca only went to ten grade and how she felt God tell her that it would be okay. And it turned out it was. Rebecca has since released ten albums, wrote a dozen books, and starred in eight movies.

Another part of the book was looking at the story behind for Kings and Country (Luke and Joel) and how they received their name. She revealed how God brought them into performing together when Joel at first wanted to be a solo act. They wanted to at first go the secular music route and then things changed and they went into Christian music.

I would recommend this awesome book about the whole family of the Smallbones. I enjoyed reading more about Rebecca St. James and for Kings and Country and their family story told by their mother. I liked how she also touched on Luke’s health crisis and his wife’s struggle with being addicted to an anti-nausea medication. I also liked how she opened up about how God provided for her family when they experienced hard times. One person even gave her family a Toyota. This story was very heart touching. I also connected with reading about their sister, Libby and her battle with Lyme disease, which went undiagnosed for six years. I too have suffered from this disease and it took years for me to recover. I felt many of the same symptoms she had, horrible headaches, body aches, and tired all the time and wanted to stay in bed. It was encouraging to read about how she relied on her love for her dog to help her get through this. She also was able to get healing from past wounds. I immensely liked reading about her whole family story and she how she covered each family member.

Out of the Dark: My Journey Through the Shadows to Find God’s Joy by Mandisa with Suzanne Gosselin Book Review

Out of the Dark is Mandisa’s second book. Each chapter was song’s titles and contained some of her lyrics. In this book, she opens up about her life and she started with the meaning behind her top song, “Overcomer”. It was written about a challenge her best friend was facing. Her best friend, hairstylist, and former background singer, Kisha was battling stage three breast cancer for over a year and a half. Kisha found out while she was about pregnant. She was having to do a less harmful form of chemotherapy. Mandisa shared how they prayed for her and the unborn child to be protected in the womb. Her and her songwriters were almost done with the album and they needed just one more song. They wrote “Overcomer” to be a fight anthem and they never imagined how the audience would connect and relate to the song. This song is a reminder to listeners to stay in the fight until the very end even when you are down and overwhelmed. Her friend was able to attend the album release party and they raised $25,000 to help with her medical bills. She shared how she expressed hope and how they were all believing that she would be healed. She ended up going home to be with Jesus.

Mandisa admitted to how she had a lot of hopeless thoughts and she explained how she had faith. She couldn’t understand as to why God took her home from her husband and she had two kids to raise. She explained how she was struggling with being an overcomer and each performance of this song caused her deep emotional pain. She was angry at God and upset. She opened up about her how she kept her grief in a box.  This opened the door to her past trauma, shame over her weight, and being eliminated from American Idol from still haunting her. She revealed how she went into a depression and turned back to letting food comfort her. She shared with readers her dark thoughts during this time and how she thought about taking pills to end it all. In the book, she will share with readers how she was able to come out of the pit and how others were there for her along the way even when at first, she didn’t see it.

I would recommend this life changing book to anyone who is dealing with depression and they feel alone and not worthy. I immensely enjoyed reading Mandisa’s journey through dealing with sadness and hanging on and not giving up on her life. I had no idea she was batting depression and you couldn’t tell it. This book will benefit anyone is struggling with depression, food addiction, past trauma, and provide readers with hope. I met her a few years ago at a concert and she was personally one of the nicest people I have ever met. She has the joy of the Lord and has such a beautiful smile that is contagious. I read her first book years ago. This one also covered some of the past stories she shared about working at Lifeway and touched on her American Idol journey. I felt like in this book, she went into more details about her life. It was heartbreaking to read again about Simon’s comments and some of her trauma she faced as a child. I also liked how she talked directly to single people and included her experiences and how she encouraged them and reminded them that God can fulfill their longing with His love.

God Is a Grunt: And More Good News for GIs by Logan M. Isaac Book Review

In God is a Grunt, Logan M. Isaac covered a theological approach of what a solider is and mixed with a history lesson. He defined the term grunt as, “low-ranking or unskilled solider or other worker.” He described how they are the people on the front lines and they do the killing or they are killed. He explained how high the suicide rate is for people who served in the military. He stated, “one solider and seventeen veterans will take their lives every day, or one every eighty minutes.” He begins the book by first exploring Cain and how many people only chose to see him as killer who killed his own brother. He looked at how he was cursed by the ground. He revealed how killing effects grunts. He looked at how they have to deal with the stereotypes they face. He explored how God is a grunt and how He is a divine warrior. He also included words from Hebrews and Greeks that readers can easily look up online by their strong concordance number.

I would recommend this excellent book on what our soldiers faced and what they are dealing with daily. I liked how he shared personal heart touching stories and they will make you have tears in your eyes. I liked how he looked at stories from scriptures and historical key characters, such as, Francis and Pilgrimage, George and Martyrdom, and Ralph and GI Justice. I liked how throughout the book he shared how Jesus is like a grunt. I like how he took apart the military service in the New Testament and what this says about our earliest attitudes towards soldiers. This book is written and geared to appeal to GI’s and to help them navigate through life.

Papa Loves You, Tiny Blue Written and Illustrated by Jo Empson Book Review

Papa Loves You, Tiny Blue is a beautiful colorful book featuring a father penguin and a son. Tiny Blue has lots of questions to ask his wise father. Throughout the book, he asked about how old the ocean is, why he can’t fly, what’s the biggest fish in the ocean, how do you find your way home, what is love, and much more. At the end of the book, she answered some of the questions that Tiny Blue asked but didn’t get answered technically in the story.

I would recommend this awesome children’s book to children aged 1 to 8. I immensely loved how big this book was. It had a massive size 11 x 12 inches according to Amazon. I liked how they designed it that way where it is able to lure and keep our children’s attention. I loved the beautiful ocean colors and the drawings all of the sea creatures: jelly fish, seahorses, whales, different fishes, starfish, to name a few. The sunset pictures are also incredible and makes me want to live at the ocean. I also loved the message behind the book and how his biggest questions is: what is love and how it’s endless.

The Story of Juneteenth Written by Dorena Williamson Book Review

The Story of Juneteenth is a children’s book describing the events that occurred on June 19, 1865. This is the last day that enslaved African American were finally set free in Texas. It took two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was declared by President Abraham Lincoln for it to finally happen. They were able to start schools, churches, and create jobs. Texas have been celebrating this day for years with parades and picnics and now it is a recently declared holiday.

I would recommend this book to children aged 2 to 7. I love how she explained the meaning behind the holiday and how Texas changed and freedom was finally all over the United States. It has recently has become a National Holiday. I believe this is a wonderful tool to use to explain it to our children. It’s a great introduction book we can use to begin to explain racism, slavery, and how we can all learn to love one another.

Southern Baby: Southern Sayings for Little Ones Written by Rebekah Moredock Illustrated by Jennica Lounsbury Review

Southern Baby is a children’s book written to teach our children some of the words we often hear and use in the South. They have been passed down from generation to generation. It explained what a buggy is, what bless your heart means, cuter than a June bug, fixin’ to, y’all, madder than a wet hen, just to name a few.

I liked how they included a sentence with the word in it and they also defined it to where kids could understand when they hear these sayings. I grew up in the South so I’m very familiar with all these saying and have heard them most of my life. I think the South will especially enjoy reading about these funny sayings and words. Even if you aren’t from the South the book will also assist others to understanding the meaning of them. I would recommend this book to any children from a baby to age 6. I loved the illustrations included in the book and how they helped to convey what the meaning means and it give the child a picture to help them understand.

How We Love Matters: A Call to Practice Relentless Racial Reconciliation by Albert Tate Book Review

In How We Love Matters, Albert Tate has written an impactful book on the subject of racism. He wrote it as a series of nine letters and the idea is inspired by Dr. King’s letters from Birmingham. Some of the nine letters included to readers, siblings, America, Church, Jesus, whiteness, and much more. He is a pastor at a multiethnic church with the majority of the congregation is white. He begins the book by sharing how it took only 9 minutes and 29 seconds for George Floyd to be killed by suffocation from a police officer’s knee pressed down against his neck. This led to protests and a stance against police brutality. This all occurred in the year of 2020 when the world was dealing with the effects of covid-19. He also shared a personal story that happened with his nine-year-old son. They were together as a family enjoying nature when two cops parked near them. His son went back to the car to hid because he was afraid, he was going to die. He stated how this is a deep fear that many Black men face.

He explored the major topic of whiteness and how it is displayed in our culture. Some of the examples included, Band-Aid colors, iPhone face ID, and emojis. He explained how we are taught whiteness is better and this led us to facing racial oppression. He looked at how it’s in your best interest to act white in order to get upward mobility. All of this is a hidden message that we are told to follow by our culture. Even though it’s really spoken out loud. He looked at racism and how we act when a Black person is gunned down and people are trying to find the reason as to why the victim deserved what he got. He explained how satan act in all of this and how he tries to convince us that racism isn’t real. He looked at the story of Zacchaeus and how Jesus invited him to his house to sit at his table. The world wouldn’t have pick Zacchaeus. He is eventually changed and he repents and he gives back to others what he has taken.

I would recommend this life changing book to anyone is tired of racism and they are wanting to see a change. I immensely loved how Albert explored the different dynamics of where we currently are in racism. I liked how open he was in sharing personal stories and examples. I was very opened in reading his perceptive on racism and the different conflicts in our America, church, and community. This book has tons of inspiration about how we can work towards racial reconciliation and he tries to teach readers on how we can truly love one another like Jesus does.

My Review:

Family Camp is an awesome family friendly movie. It is good for anyone from around eight years old and up. The film really tried to add laughter to the overall message of the film. Both families aren’t perfect and they both have their own issues. I liked how they added an over-the-top religious acting family and then we see the other family trying to live up to their standards in a more hilarious attempt. I liked how there wasn't any bad language in this film. I liked Leigh-Allyn Bake in this film and I thought she did a wonderful job of playing a mother who cares about her family and wants a fun activity to bring them closer together. I also liked being introduced to The Skit Guys—Tommy Woodard and Eddie James. This is the first time I have heard of them. I think they both added fun humor when they did crazy competing events at the camp. I thought personally when the two families did the big ball game it was hilarious. I have always wanted to personally try that but I imagine it would be pretty warm being trapped in a giant ball. Also, when they both got lost in the woods those fun bonding times also added a lot of laughter to the film. I also liked seeing Heather Land in the film and she played a fun role of her crushing on the camp director. I also liked the music part of Rhett Walker performing an original song. I didn't care for the other family 's singing. They added it for funny scenes but they don't need to try out for Idol. This is one of sing with a joyful noise moment. I also loved when they had the encounter with the beaver. He truly had some good parts. Overall, it is a good family friendly movie and I think all of their acting was spot on. Even with it being a Christian movie, this one wasn’t cheesy or anything of the sorts. It was very enjoyable that I think Hollywood is going to be paying attention to how well it does.
