Not That Fancy: Simple Lessons on Living, Loving, Eating, and Dusting Off Your Boots by Reba McEntire Book Review

In Not That Fancy, Reba McEntire opened up about her life and lessons that she learned along the way. She grew up in Oklahoma and her father was a rancher and he actively participated in the rodeo. Her father taught her the importance of working hard and she even had to work on the raunch when she was attending school. She shared how when she first started in the music business, she believed that once she got the record deal then she would go on tour and make big money. The first time she heard her song on the radio she thought everything would change. She quickly learned that wasn’t the case. She spent 7 years traveling around playing everywhere she could. Her first hit song didn’t happen until, “Can’t Even Get the Blues” was released. It took her 13 singles from 5 albums before she ever had a number one. Her first headlined show she had 800 people show up and she still ended up losing money because she didn’t’ sell enough tickets. She explained how determination was taught to her from an early age and how she also helped pass it down to her son, Shelby. He is a race car driver and had to also be determined to get going when times get tough. In the book, she also discussed her acting roles, her divorce, how she met Rex (her new boyfriend), her new restaurant, some recipes, and most importantly lessons she learned.

Another heartbreaking part of the book was about nobody goes it alone. This one discussed the dreaded topic of when Reba lost some of her band members in a tragic accident. In March 1991, a plane crashed killing half of her band. She used this chapter to walk people through grief and the process. She shared how none of us will get through life without losing someone we love. She included a helpful gift idea section to help a friend who is hurting. She also shared about how she lost her mother in March of 2020 when the world was shutting down and afterwards admits she almost quit singing. But her sisters helped her to refocus and slowing down helped her to regain her passion.

I enjoyed reading this book and learning even more about Reba. I have always enjoyed listening to her and watching her on TV and in movies. She is truly an amazing performer. I loved the recipes in this book and how southern style she kept a lot of them. Some were her own and others were from Shelby’s wife, Kix Brooks from Brooks & Dunn, Rex, Reba’s Place (restaurant), Katy McEntire, Chris Rich (co-star in Reba), and much more. I loved how the recipes included a difficulty rating which I thought was a little different from most cookbooks. I’m curious to try Reba’s Place Tequila Lime Vinaigrette. I haven’t had the chance to go to her new restaurant but I hope too someday! Some of the recipes I want to try is, porch day lemonade, shishito peppers and okra with tequila lime vinaigrette, Rex’s pecan smoked beer-can chicken tacos, onion and jalapeno haystacks, Nashville hot chicken, and so much more! I also enjoyed the chapter on talking to God and how He has changed her life and it was inspiring to read the positivity in this and she helps readers to get to know Him. I also liked how she explained the story behind the song, “The Nights the Lights Went Out in Georgia” and fans will get to hear about Reba was able to rerecord this popular song. The pictures in this book are awesome and very colorful and helps to make this book one to keep and reread. There is an abundance of lessons readers can learn from this Fancy hit singer.

The Fire of Perfect Love: Intimacy with God for a Life of Passion, Purpose, and Unshakable Faith by Steven and Rene Springer Book Review

In The Fire of Perfect Love, Steven and Rene Springer explored the importance of having a fiery love as the main goal of your life. They begin the book by sharing how the distortion of love is becoming common. We are losing our sight of God, there is a lack of loyalty, no real intimacy, immoral sexual behavior, catching after wealth, family dysfunction, racism, and much more. A large number of people are looking for love and acceptance wherever we can find it. They revealed how we need to love God first and when we experience this type of love this will in turn cause us to love others. They included a helpful list on how Father God expressed His love to us. These included, “gives life, is intimate, delights, generous, makes everything beautiful, protects and gives freedom to choose, redeems, clothes and covers”, and much more. They also took it a step farther and covered Jesus and the Holy Spirit and how they also express love to us.

One of my favorite chapters was about our identity and how many of us are lure into finding our identity in titles, labels, and causes. They explained the difference between our being and relating. They shared how Martha found her identity by who she is and not by what she does. We need to also focus more on our seeing ourselves as holy and righteousness. We can let our old sinful nature to die. Steven also shared about how he had a son out of wedlock before he became a Christian. He explained how the world would refer to him as illegitimate or a mistake. He clarified how we are all created in love and Christ destined us and planned for us. They explored how when we know who we are in Christ, then we will display boldness, rest, inheritance, and Kingdom authority.

I would recommend this life changing book to anyone who is ready for love to transform and change their entire lives. I loved how they touched on our identity in Christ and how we can navigate the journey to perfect love. This book can assist readers into stepping into their nature as a saint and become fearless. I liked how each chapter enclosed journey to perfect love and it contained declarations, a prayer, or questions. This book can help you to share the love and spread it around. There are also helpful videos to accompany and go along with the message of the book.

The First Christmas Night Written by Keith Christopher and Illustrated by Christine Kornacki Book Review

The First Christmas Night is a children’s book about the first night of Christmas covering Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem. It begins the popular rhyme “not a creature was stirring”. Peace on earth was arriving and redemption is coming. The baby was being born in a manager. The wise men were visited by an angel telling them about Jesus.

I would recommend this awesome children’s book to children aged 1-6. I immensely loved how creative and detail the illustration were in this book. They are truly breathtaking and you can see the awesome features and how realistic the faces of the wise men bring Jesus gifts and it’s probably one of my favorite pages in this book. I liked how this book contained some rhyme to make the story of Christmas even more fun.

First Words of Christmas Book Review

In First Words of Christmas is a new children’s book introducing the story of Christmas. It contained a short sentence telling the story and then on the next page it focused on one word. Some of these words included Mary, Bethlehem, angel, manger, star, just to name a few. It described how Mary was going to have a baby, how Jesus was born in a manager, and He received gifts from the wise men. This book would be great for babies until around young preschool ages.

I would recommend this book to young children aged 1-4. I loved how the book is simple to read and how it will keep the focus on the true meaning of Christmas. The illustrations are beautiful and very appealing to children. I liked how this book had a focus word to assist children in understanding more of the message and it made it easier for them to remember the word Mary for example.

Secret of the Anointing: Accessing the Power of God to Walk in Miracles by Kathryn Krick Book Review

In Secret of the Anointing, Kathryn Krick walks readers through the entire process of walking with God, developing Godly character, and stepping into our anointing. She begins the book by sharing how she started 5F (Five-Fold) church in Los Angeles. She explained throughout the years she started with around 20 people to dropping down to sometimes just two people in 2020 when Covid happened. She strongly believes that there is a revival coming and the time is now. She had a vision and a calling to lead the nation and reach the lost. She created a one-minute video on TikTok in December 2020 showing how God moved in the past year. She witnessed people receive healing. The video reached 1 million views and there were tons of comments stating how God has brought a miracle into their own lives. She created something called, “Revival in the Park”. There were demons casted out and people began traveling to her church services.

In the book, she explained how many of us struggle with breaking free from anxiety, depression, and addictions without much avail. We have to have God’s anointing to break the yoke. In the Bible, God would use human vessels to break the yokes. Slavery was broken from the Israelites through Moses, Elisha raised a man from the dead, and Peter casted out demons just by being around them. She explained how a lot of the sickness, depression, and suicidal thoughts are caused by a demonic spirit. This book teaches readers how to know the power of their spiritual authority and how to cast them out. She shared how we can receive impartation from others one of these included pouring oil on the head. She covered how to obtain deliverance and how you can break from past open doors that you may not even be aware of.

I would recommend this life changing book to anyone who is curious about anointing and they are ready to strength their relationship with Christ. I liked how she revealed what anointing means and how can witness the miracles taking place in today’s times. I liked how she shared different testimonies of impartation and how their lives were changed in the process. They were truly inspiring and touching to read how they attained their deliverance. This book will help break the yokes of addiction in your own lives.
