The First Christmas Night Written by Keith Christopher and Illustrated by Christine Kornacki Book Review

The First Christmas Night is a children’s book about the first night of Christmas covering Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem. It begins the popular rhyme “not a creature was stirring”. Peace on earth was arriving and redemption is coming. The baby was being born in a manager. The wise men were visited by an angel telling them about Jesus.

I would recommend this awesome children’s book to children aged 1-6. I immensely loved how creative and detail the illustration were in this book. They are truly breathtaking and you can see the awesome features and how realistic the faces of the wise men bring Jesus gifts and it’s probably one of my favorite pages in this book. I liked how this book contained some rhyme to make the story of Christmas even more fun.

First Words of Christmas Book Review

In First Words of Christmas is a new children’s book introducing the story of Christmas. It contained a short sentence telling the story and then on the next page it focused on one word. Some of these words included Mary, Bethlehem, angel, manger, star, just to name a few. It described how Mary was going to have a baby, how Jesus was born in a manager, and He received gifts from the wise men. This book would be great for babies until around young preschool ages.

I would recommend this book to young children aged 1-4. I loved how the book is simple to read and how it will keep the focus on the true meaning of Christmas. The illustrations are beautiful and very appealing to children. I liked how this book had a focus word to assist children in understanding more of the message and it made it easier for them to remember the word Mary for example.

The Inkwell Chronicles: Race to Krakatoa, Book 2 by J.D. Peabody Book Review

In the next adventure in The Inkwell Chronicles: Race to Krakatoa, Everett and Bea are back ready to dive more into the inklings. This book begins with Everett reading his favorite comic, Max Courageous. His dad wrote and illustrated it with the special ink. He was then lure inside the actual pages of the comic. He was watching the scenes unfold before his very eyes. He referred to this experience as something called, “Leap Reading.” He had a second time and all his sister Bea saw was a book lying on the floor and when she turned it over, he appeared. He then had to explained to her what was happening to him. He has also been having nightmares. They decided to go visit Gilroy in London to see if they can find out any answers. A little while later, a mystery note in an envelope was delivered. This led them to traveling to Krakatoa, a small island filled with balloons and a volcano. The magic Ink is also disappearing and about to become non-existence. A new substance has been discovered and it is referred to as, “Inkanto”. Throughout the book, they will seek out the answers and attempt to unearth the truth.

I would recommend this great book to preteens aged and they will enjoy uncovering the mysteries presented. It is a clean children’s book that parents won’t have to worry about what their children’s are reading. It was interesting to see how the characters grew since their last adventure and how in this one they were determined to discover the source of the inklings. I also liked how the author added a new leap reading aspect and this added even more new quests. The ending of the book was truly shocking and I didn’t see that coming and it sort of was a surprise cliffhanger. I hope that’s not the ending! I also liked how he enclosed a special page on his website sharing some of the hidden easter eggs in the series and some of his inspirations and references behind the characters and places. It provided a more in depth behind the scenes look at the storyline.

Who Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up? By Paula Faris Illustrated by Bhagya Madanasinghe Book Review

Who Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up is a new children’s book from award-winning journalist, Paula Faris. She was also a co-host on ABC, The View. This book is about Lina and how she getting prepared for career day and a fun project. Mrs. Garcia went around the room and began asking each student what they all wanted to be when they grew up. Lina was busy drawing in her stretch book and not paying attention in class. She was telling her friend about golden retrievers and how they are excellent guide dogs and how smart they are. They make the perfect companion friend and they are great at finding hidden things. When the teacher asked her what she wanted to be. She told the class she wanted to be a golden retriever and the entire class laughed at her response. She still had another chance to try a different answer on the actual career day. At dinner, her parents tried to help her up with things she was good at and things she loved to do. Her mother explained how she was very curious and liked to ask questions.

In the book, she shared how on career day she wanted to be like a golden retriever and shared their different characteristics and traits and how they benefit and help others. The book revealed how we can teach our kids to focus more on who they want to become instead of just what they do in life. At the end of the book, Paula wrote a short closing about how we need to instead ask who do you want to become when you grow up. She broke it down to three questions we can teach our kids to get them started. One of these was, “what’s important to you?”

I would recommend this outstanding children’s book on who we want to become when we grow up. We live in society that we focus on what jobs we do and not enough on who we are. This small book contains a powerful message to assist our children in concentrating on character qualities and asking ourselves the most important questions. This book is truly remarkable and if we will take the time to go over the three critical questions with our children, then we can help them to figure out who they want to become in life. The illustrations are also beautiful and help to craft the story. This book would be a wonderful book for children aged 4-9.

Brindlefox by John Sandford Book Review

Brindlefox is a children’s book discussing the life of a fox and how this particular fox hated to speak to others. He hated small talk or any kind of talk at all. He didn’t like to have guests over or to invite people into his home. He wouldn’t clean his home and he let moss and ivy grow around the rooms. There were weeds and flowers everywhere. He refused to have any friends. He had a hard heart and was bitter on life. One day a small sapling grew on his back. This led to a big tree growing on him and birds loved to make nests in the tree and he hated this. A young heron decided to swing on his branches and he told him that he heard he never spoke. She kept coming back and taking brambleberries from his vine. One day he smelled pies that were freshly baked being left at his own house. He spoke and asked the heron why she would make him pies. The heron refused to not take no for an answer. She was determined to make the fox speak to him. This led to them to become friends and he experienced love and kindness.

I would recommend this awesome children’s book with a powerful message of how a hardened heart can be turned around. At times, I think we can all related to the fox and how we want to shut the world out and just to be left alone. We might be experiencing pain or hurts from others and we think it is just plain easier to build up walls and ignore others. There is great healing when we choose to let kindness in and become friends with others. This is a wonderful book about helping others and learning to love ourselves and to love others. We all need to remember how to be a friend. I loved the wonderful pastel colors and it reminded me of nature and looked very storytelling in the colorful details.

Home is Calling: The Journey of the Monarch Butterfly by Katherine Pryor Art By Ellie Peterson Book Review

Home is Calling is a children’s book about the critical journey of a monarch butterfly and their travels around the world. Every fall monarch caterpillars hatch in the eastern United States and southern Canada. Then they travel over 3,000 miles to central Mexico for the winter months. The book covered how the fly and travel across the oceans and world during the different seasons. They are typically orange and black with incredible wings. They are all on a special quest to make it back home. The book enclosed the anatomy of a butterfly and had a helpful chart explaining what each part of the butterfly is. It also described the life cycle of a caterpillar to an adult butterfly and how long it takes them to complete the cycle. She explained the importance of milkweed and how this is a beautiful flower that helps them to survive. Since the 1990’s the monarch butterflies have encountered a vast decline in their numbers. They have become a member of the endangered species list in 2022. A big part in their decline is the view of the milkweed and how it is considered a weed and climate change. She shared how readers can help save them by planting milkweed. You just have to be careful cause it can harm other animals. You can also report and seek out ways to help through organizations. There was also a guide on the migration progress and their travels at the back of the book.

I would recommend this colorful impactful book on butterflies to anyone who enjoys watching these beautiful creatures. It would be a great sadness if we lost them and they were no more. But there are things we can do to help them live longer and to have a home. It was interesting to read about the migration process of them and I loved how in depth they went in explaining it where kids can understand. I liked how they created a fun book showcasing their journey around the world and how they travel every year. I liked how they included the anatomy of the butterfly and how they tried to teach children some of the science behind their bodies and their live cycles. I also loved the illustrations and it was like watching the monarch butterflies fly right around me while I was reading the book.

Moonlight Memories by Amanda Davis Illustrated by Michelle Jing Chan Book Review

Moonlight Memories is a bright book touching on the topic of grief and lost. Piper has recently lost her mother a month ago. She is suffering from feeling empty inside. Her father didn’t speak much about it but deep down inside she knew he was also hurting from the pain. Her father provided her with a special gift, a telescope where she could look up at the stars, the Big Dipper, moon craters, and a special surprise. She said her mother’s face twinkling in the stars. She drew what she saw and she continued to do so. She kept capturing another memory and putting it down on paper. She was able to use this to experience past memories with her mother and to be reminded of them. She remembered her mother’s love and was comforted by her memories.

I would recommend this inspiring book covering the topic of grief and healing from the pain by remembering the past memories and cherishing them. This would be great for children aged 4-8 and is a wonderful introduction to grief. This book is based on a true story from the author when she lost her own father at a young age. She discovered her own ways to cope and she found her voice when she used writing and art to find healing. She wanted others to reach out to their support groups, friends, and family and find their own outlets to process their griefs. I loved how she included helpful activities for children such as creating a memory album/ scrapbook, writing a goodbye letter, building a heart puzzle, planting a tree/bush/flowers in their honor, and enjoying them on their birthday by doing whatever they enjoyed. I thought she a great job in using this book and the different ideas as a way to deal with our suffering and grief. I recently lost my grandmother from cancer almost a year ago and this is a wonderful tool in using it to explain death and learning to cope with lost. It helped to bring back past memories that we shared.

When Worry Whispers by Joyce Meyer Illustrated by Marcin Piwowarski Book Review

When Worry Whispers is a how to book showing children how they should deal when worrying hits them. It begins the book by stating Psalm 55:22 and how we are supposed to give our worries to God and it reminds us that God will take care of us. Many of us struggle with the what if questions and if something bad happens to us. What if we stumble and fall and get hurt. What if we made a mistake and we are laughed at and get embarrassed. What if we try something new and fail greatly. What if tomorrow turns out to be terrible and nothing goes right. Worrying causes us to live in fear and we tend to imagine the worst thing that can happen. It can even cause us a sickness such as a bad tummy ache. Joyce shared the answer to what we need to do to combat worry. We first need to talk to God and remember how He has always taken care of us. He has provided us with promises, such as how He has great plans for us. She ends the book by going back over how we need to answer the what if questions to obtain our peace.

I would recommend this life changing book to children aged 2-9. Joyce has an excellent way in helping us teach our children about worrying and living in fear. I loved how she answered some of the what if questions and helped flip the script we are telling ourselves to help us deal with fear. I also immensely liked how they drew a dark cloud over the characters of the book that is meant to be like an invisible whisper overseeing what we are doing and telling us how we should feel. This book makes a very moving conversation starter between our kids and their worries and provides us with way to teach them how to handle them. One of the most serious ways we can use against fear is to think and ponder on God’s promises especially, when we are faced with things to worry about. This book would be a great gift to children who are burden down by the what if questions and worrying about what might happen to them.

Domino’s Tree House by Dawn Patitucci Illustrated by Francisco Fonseca Book Review

Domino’s Tree House is a fun adventure about a boy who isn’t happy with his backyard. He would lay in the grass watching the leaves fall and became bored. He decided to build a treehouse where he could sit and enjoy it and he loved eating his snacks. He grew tired of it and he next built a cottage where he could sit by the fire and make soup. He quickly grew bored and next build a tree mansion where he could eat French cakes and slide down the handrails. He decided he needed to build a tree castle and become king over his neighborhood but he still wasn’t satisfied. He keeps building until he winds up in space. There was no good food and it was cold and lonely all the way up in space. At the end of the book, he realized how much he loved the simple life and his backyard wasn’t that bad at all.

I would recommend this delightful book to children aged 2-8. It had an excellent message about learning to enjoy where you currently are in life and how the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Each different house he built provided even more ways for him to grow unhappy. It is also a great reminder to parents that a bigger house doesn’t always equal more happiness. It tends to bring about even more challenges. I enjoyed this book and the core message of the book about enjoying the journey and living in the moment. More stuff doesn’t equivalent to being more fulfilled in life.

When I Was Your Age by Danette Byatt Book Review

When I Was Your Age is a children’s book about the different changed throughout the generations and how technology has changed. The setting is in space on a planet in the near future. A grandmother is explaining to her granddaughter, Indigo about the changes that have occurred. The grandmother had to bike to school and that took a great deal of time. Whereas now, they can travel to school in 2.04 seconds in a fast teleport machine. They had a tablet which is like an iPad and now in the future it’s more like a helmet that projects images. The grandmother had a pet dog and Indigo has a pet dragon looking creature. The grandmother dad would bake a cake from scratch and now it’s all completed by lasers. They also in the future have robots who do all of their chores. This book is a fun book about the many changes coming in the future and the amazing adventure headed our way.

I would recommend this awesome space theme book to children aged 2-8 and it features creative ways in which we can look forward to in the future. It allows children to be reminded of what past generations experienced. It opened the door for kids to brainstorm what could occur in the future and how technology will change and allow us to do even more. We may even have new pets. The most excited thing in the book I wish would be to fast teleport to work, stores, and to home. I would also like the food being so easily fixed without the preparing and cooking. It would also be beneficially to have robots doing all of the chores. The book reminded me of the Jetsons type feel to it.

Where Are Your Shoes, Mr. Brown? By Justin Rhodes Illustrated by Heather Dickinson Book Review

Where Are Your Shoes?, Mr. Brown is a farmer themed children’s book all about a missing pair of shoes that everyone is searching for. There is a lot of work that is needed to be completed around the farm and of course the little boy can’t find his shoes when they are desperately needed. Sometimes the shoes would be hiding in his closet and sometimes they would be nowhere. He thought they at first might be located on the roof. The boy would sometimes get a wild hair and throw them up there. Mr. Brown and his papa looked on the roof and couldn’t find them. They looked near the creek, the barn, lettuce patch, chicken coop, and many more fun places. His sister even tried to let him borrow hers and they wouldn’t fit. His father finally carried him on his back everywhere while his papa worked. They completed wheel barreling tasks, picking the garden, feeding the pigs, watering the crops, and much more. The book showed a father and son enjoying the company of each other and his papa knew it wouldn’t last forever.

I would recommend this remarkable book about a father and son bonding to children aged 1-8. I liked how the book showed a family enjoying a meal together and being together as a family. It also showed a father truly loving on his kid and carrying him around, protecting him, and assisting him with trying to find his lost shoes. You didn’t see the father beating his son down with negative words or giving him a difficult time when he lost his shoes again. Even though the son regularly loses his shoes, he didn’t shame him. I thought this was a wonderful example of a father’s love and the Heavenly Father’s love to us. I loved how it was based off of true story on Youtube’ star, influencer, and homesteader. They take care of a 75 acre’s farm as a family. His son really does struggle with losing his shoes. This book is an excellent teaching moment between a father and son and children will learn a lot from it.

A Love Letter from God by P.K. Hallinan Book Review

A Love Letter from God is a personal book enclosed with a collection of reminders of how much God loves us. Our laugher is a special treasure that is worth more than gold. Our hearts are a direct representation of God’s goodness and mercy and we see it in our reflection. God will always lead us everywhere we are and He will provide for us. He will send us friends our way that will help to positively brighten our days. We can laugh, solve riddles together, play games. When we face hardship or challenges or fall, we can rely on the fact that God will use it all for our good and it will make us stronger. You will bring us blessings and cause rainbows to form and give us beautiful sunsets and sunrises. We can always remember to look up and see the stars shining bright and be reminded that His love for us is incredible.

I would recommend this splendid book to children aged 1-7 and parents are seeking a good book to teach our children the hope and love Christ has for His children. The book was a wonderful book to reminder readers how much God cares for His children and is a great introduction to the principles of Christ. One of my favorite pages was the one that discussed the goodness and mercy and how our heart is a reflection of Him. I thought seeing the ducks floating in the lake being fed and the word me being reflected into the lake was very eye opening and is a great prompt to children. The illustrations were very colorful and I really enjoyed how they sketched them and made them very kid’s friendly.

Our prayers are supposed to be big bold risky and are meant to change the world around us. As parents, we can pray that they will follow the narrow road and trust that God will lead them in whatever they are supposed to accomplish in life. We can remind our children to always do the hard thing even when it’s difficult. It teaches children how to battle our enemies and to show them mercy and try to become their friend. Something One Small Thing Can Make a Difference Written by Natalee Creech and Illustrated by Pablo Pino Book Review

Something One Small Thing Can Make a Difference is a children book based on the passage in Matthews 25. Jesus tells the story about how when we give to others who are hungry, thirsty, lacking clothes, caring for someone who is sick, and visiting someone in prison we are more like Him. This children book discussed a kindness radar and how it starts with us. It explained how we don’t have to be grown up to make a difference. We can be young or old age doesn’t matter. The book showed people helping their neighbors and provided suggestions on showing others kindness. We can help elders get their mail, water their plants, and carrying items inside for them. We can assist pets in finding a loving home. We can brainstorm up and inventions to help others. We can show kindness in numerous ways.

I would recommend this heartwarming children’s book to anyone aged 3-9. I loved all of the beautiful illustrations and how engaging and fun they hid all sorts of kindness in the book. Children will love picking out what they see on each page. One of my favorites was the invention called the wagging trail and it enclosed tons of dogs and cats wagging in a vehicle looking happy. I also liked how they had cute animals all throughout the book and kids will love what they can discover. This book has a great message of Matthews 25 and will teach children kindness and how we can spread the love of Christ to others. Hopefully children will take these ideas and even brainstorm some up of their own to be a blessing to others.

My First Veggie Bible Stories Book Review

My First Veggie Bible Stories is a new adventure featuring the Veggie Tales covering the events from the Old and New Testaments. It starts with Noah’s ark and how he was told by God that there would be a massive flood coming soon to Earth. He was told to build a large ark to take shelter from the raging seas and seek protection. After the flood, God provided a rainbow in the sky as a promise of how much God does love us.

Another story was about Peter walking on water. There was a big storm on the ocean and Jesus disciples were very worried about sinking. Jesus walked on water and Peter asked Jesus to let him walk on water and he did. Peter started to doubt and got scared and he began to sink and Jesus reminded him of having faith and believing in Him.

I would recommend this wonderful book to children aged 1-7. You could even start it at the baby age if you wanted to. The book would be an excellent devotional style and it’s a great idea for children to learn about God and His people before bed. The book is very colorful and the creatures and characters are all very high-quality designs. It will be very engaging to children and they will enjoy reading about the Bible. It’s a breathtaking book on ascertaining the message of the Bible and the principles of God. Children can learn about faith, love, helping others, miracles, protection, and letting God fight our battles.

Veggie Tales: God’s Word for Me: 365 Daily Devos for Boys Book Review

God’s Word for Me 365 Daily Devos for Boys is a new devotional featuring the Veggie Tales. Most of the pages are filled with the male characters of the Veggie Tales. All the pages are in color. Each day enclosed a verse, a short story, a thought, and a prayer for today. The back of the book also enclosed a special section called, “Know It By Heart” filled with scripture.

One of the days explored how we are commanded to wait on the Lord and be strong, and have courage. They explained how even heroes in the Bible faced their fears. Esther, Barak, Jesus chose to risk their lives but they had courage through whatever they faced. We can instead ask God for His help and He will provide His help. When we are feeling nervous and afraid to go after what God is trying to tell us, we can ask for His strength and courage. This devotional asked to look inward and figure what where we need to be brave.

I would recommend this incredible book to little boys and it would make a great devotional introduction book. It would make a wonderful gift to boys aged 3-8 and will help strengthen and grow our little boy’s faith. One of my favorite ones discussed love and there is no greater love than for a friend to lay down their live for their friends. One of the ways, we can be a better friend is to let others go first. We can remind our kids that they don’t always have to be first or to always be the leader. This can allow our friend to feel valued and we might learn something new. I love how the devotionals included practical ways to grow in our relationship with Christ and others.

Veggie Tales: God’s Word for Me: 365 Daily Devos for Girls Book Review

God’s Word for Me 365 Daily Devos for Girls is a new devotional featuring the Veggie Tales. Most of the pages are filled with the female characters of the Veggie Tales. All the pages are in color. Each day enclosed a verse, a short story, a thought, and a prayer for today. The back of the book also enclosed a special section called, “Know It By Heart” filled with scripture.

One of the devotionals discussed the faith of a tiny seed. In scripture, we are reminded that if we have faith as small as a mustard seed that we can declare to the mountain to move and it will move. There is nothing impossible with God. This day talked about planting a seed and how we can plant just a small seed and watch it grow into a fruitful fruit, plant, vegetables, flower, or tree. Our faith can be small and we can still grow it by reading God’s word and learning everything we can about God. We can also go to church and pray to help us grow in Christ’s teachings.

I would recommend this insightful devotional to any parent or grandparent that has little girls. I believe it would be a great tool for girls aged 3 to 8. This could be a wonderful devotional for parents to read together with their little girls at bedtime or even early in the mornings before school. I love how colorful the book is and how it will engage our children to want to learn the principles found in scripture. One of my favorite days explored Zechariah and how he was asked by people what God wanted them to know. He told them about kindness. It explained how powerful kindness is and how it can change others’ lives for the better.

Wreck the Halls Written by Melinda Rathjen and Illustrated by Gareth Williams Book Review

Wreck the Halls is a Christmas book about how wreakers are wonderful at helping us to get ready for the Christmas season. They can assist in string the lights and adding the ornaments to the trees Cranes help put the star on top of the giant Christmas trees. Trains like to make a whistle noise. But wreckers can help pull Santa cookies and milk if needed. They are excellent in pulling the massive Christmas gifts.

I would recommend this children’s book to boys aged 1-6 and some girls may even enjoy reading about how special wreckers are. I loved the uniqueness of wreckers and how they can help get Christmas ready. This was a cool approach in keeping little boys engaged in a Christmas story. I liked how it also enclosed stories about police cars, race cars, boats, buses and much more and how they each help make Christmas happen. But wreckers make the big difference. This one reminded a little of Cars and Larry the Cable Guy.

The World’s Longest Sock Written and Illustrated by Juliann Law Book Review

The World’s Longest Sock is a story about a fierce competition between Nana Nina and Chuck. Nina loved kitting and she made socks for our whole family and opened up her own sock business. One day, she was determined to win the award for the world’s longest sock. Chuck sees the news coverage and wants to win the award and take the crown away from her. They battle it out in order to prove that they can win. It gets off control and they both have health issues from trying to outdo the other person. But there can only be one real winner.

I would recommend this touching book to children aged 3-7. It’s a very exciting competition between Nina and Chuck and it leaves children wondering who will end up winning the award for knitting the world’s longest sock. I personally loved how they acted a manly lumberjack type of character for Chuck and how this would go against the typical stereotype of man knitting for fun. I thought this was a unique touch for the book to display that anyone is free to live their life however they choose and had a great message. I loved the designs in this book and how colorful each one of them are.
