A Heart on Fire: You Are Chosen to Change the World by Glen Berteau Book Review

In A Heart on Fire, Glen Berteau revealed the truth about how we are all chosen by God and we are predestined to fulfill our mission and calling. He clarified how we need to be fed up with the things that are displeasing to God. He instructed us on how to have a revival and the part we all play in it. He discussed the wind, fire, power, and Lazarus revival. In the book, he opened up about how he stuffed from a sudden cardiac arrest. He died in his front seat of his car in his churches parking lot. The paramedics tried to save him for 45 minutes before they were finally able to save him. He died and was revived eight times. This event helped lead him to a heart on fire for God and a revival that needed to be born.

He shared a personal story about seeing a person at the drugstore and he had a pull over hairdo, huge gauges in his ears, and a Satanic symbol tattooed on his arm. He explained how we are commanded to love others and not run from people who aren’t like us. We can’t avoid the sinners and tax collectors like Zacchaeus. He shared how he wanted to be known as the pastor who shared a meal with murders, prostitutes, tax collectors, and sinners. Jesus would often be associated with sinners and people who religious folks would often judge. He explored the teaching Jesus did on the lost sheep and how a man lost one sheep and went after that one sheep and carried it home on his shoulders. He used this to explain how we need to be like that in search for the lost and going after the ones who have strayed.

One of my favorite chapters discussed the three characteristics of an effective prayer life. He looked at Elijah and how he prayed and believed for rain to end the drought. One of the ways is praying with determination and seeing with eyes of a faith before we see anything happening. Glen explained how he had to see his church full before it ever was. His church has since grown to five campuses and five different services times. He enlightened how this changed everything for him and how spending time with God changed him.

I would recommend this life changing book to anyone who is ready to bring about a revival and to be reenergized and live out your faith. This book was very beneficial and informative on igniting our faith and getting our fire back. It was very heartbreaking to read about some of the things that are currently happening in America. These included a girl being told to hide her cross necklace at school, a teacher being fire for using the line, “the first shall be last and the last first” and giving a student a Bible, senior citizens told they couldn’t pray before meals, and much more. This book is an important call to readers to take a stand for their beliefs and to become fed up with what is occurring in the world today.

His Only Son Movie Review and Giveaway

Angel Studios, who brought you THE CHOSEN, is releasing a

new film, HIS ONLY SON, which is a film about Abraham and

Isaac!

• Moms, this is a movie you won’t want to miss! There are few things more powerful than a mother's love for her son. Take your family to see this film, and be inspired by Isaac and Sarah's relationship in His Only Son, coming to theaters March 31.

• For the first time in a feature film, the controversial account of Abraham and Isaac will be brought to life, one that everyone can draw inspiration from.

• Synopsis: His Only Son recounts one of the most controversial moments in the Old Testament—when Abraham was commanded by God to sacrifice his son Isaac on the mountain of Moriah. While traveling to the place of the sacrifice, alongside Isaac and two servants, Abraham is flooded with vivid memories from the years he and Sarah spent longing for the son they were promised—the son he must now lay upon the altar.

My Review:

This is an excellent film on the story of Abraham and how God spoke to him after many years of being silent and how he instructed him to kill his son as a sacrifice to God. The film was mainly shown as a journey to the mountain of Moriah and their travels. But it also included backstories and flashbacks showing how God told Abraham that he would become the father of nations. I really enjoyed the acting in this film and how they also conveyed the unconditionally love of parents. We get to personally watch how Abraham must have felt in sacrificing his son as an offering to God and how torn he must have been. The scene of Isaac being tired up on the alter about to be sacrificed was very emotional and seeing the obedience of Abraham. He listened to God and followed Him and did what God commanded him to do to. It’s was very inspirational to our faith and taught us an important lesson about obedience. It was also touching to witness the love of a mother and how she cherished her son. This film is a wonderful film to get ready for Easter and it reminds watchers of how God must have felt when he chose to sacrifice his only son. It was also encouraging to see how they next want to do a film about Jacob and keep even more films coming.

• Buy tickets today to see HIS ONLY SON in theaters March 31st!

You Don’t Have to Carry It All: Ditch the Mom Guilt & Find a Better Way Forward By Paula Faris Book Review

In You Don’t Have to Carry It All, Paula Faris explored how society is currently valuing motherhood and the implications moms are facing in the workplace. In the book, she shared how she was a journalist for over two decades. In 2020, she was lost her job and was not resigned to her network contact with ABC during COVID-19. She was a co-anchor on Good Morning America: Weekend Edition and a cohost on the View. This is what lead her to begin CARRY Media which focuses on women and their stories on being a mother and also balancing the workplace and their experiences. She shared how moms make 70% of what dads make in the workforce. There is a pay gap. Part of this could be due to the rising costs of daycare and how it's more expensive. She also explored the topic of mother’s guilt and how this is affecting women and leading to extreme burnout. She also looked at how some studies found that women are perceived as less capable if they stayed home with their children to raise them and this more than likely led to a resume gap. She looked at the dynamics of the history of women and how their roles changed throughout the different historical times.

In the book, she also discussed her treatment in the media field and how she was told she wouldn’t make it in TV until she showed her boobs more. She was told women couldn’t be in sports media. She explained how women anchors have to their outfit approved before you go on air but male anchors don’t have to go through the same experiences. She revealed how she was instructed to wear more makeup to hide her pregnancy mask.

One of the most shocking stories was of an Australian news anchor, Karl Stefanovic who secretly made a stance and chose to wear the same suit for a most of the year on air. He shared how women are more judged on their looks and he was more judged on his interviews. No one noticed that he wore the same suit and if a woman would have done that someone would have tweeted or made comments about how they looked.

I would recommend this awesome book about women and their role in society and all of the challenges that are facing currently. This book was very interesting in reading about everything that is happening in America and how women are viewed as qualified leaders. I immensely liked how she included a list on what companies can do to assist working moms and bring about changes in their organization. I also liked how she discussed paid paternity leave and how dads normally only take a few days when they have a new child and mostly the reason is that companies don’t offer it. There is tons of studies and data in this book to get the message across and it’s a very beneficial book.

God Heals: Eight Keys to Defeat Sickness and Receive Divine Healing by Steve Austin Book Review

In God Heals, Steve Austin explored the much-needed topic of healing and how to unleash the power of our faith. Steve Austin is a former attorney and has been a pastor at Lakewood Church for over 20 years. He is also an active member of ministering to Houston’s Texas Medical Center and this is one of the largest medical centers in the entire world. He has firsthand witnessed healing. In the book, he discussed eight keys: “unleashing the power of faith, praying prayers that work, utilizing the miracle in our mouth, taking care of your temple”, just to name a few. He explained how he came to believe in the fact that God still heals people in today’s time. He grew up in a church not knowing about the healing business. All of that changed when he met an evangelist who conducting healing crusades all over the world. He went on a trip to India with him and hired a videographer to document video proof of miraculous healing that took place. He shared how he witnessed and prayer for a man who was paralyzed on his left side get healed, a woman who was in a wheelchair to begin to walk, and people with tumors and cancers in their bodies. He also stated how he asked God why people in American aren’t seeing the healings. He shared how God spoke to him about how we tend to put our faith in doctors and we google everything and this is hindering our believing for a miracle. He also explained how churches aren’t teaching on healings. He also discussed why sickness occurs: we have fallen bodies that make us more prone to sickness, toxins and viruses are more prevalent, and we have an enemy that will attack us. He deliberated on how sickness and disease aren’t from God.

In the book, he also shared the story of Dodie Osteen and how she was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic liver cancer and given 6 weeks to live. She grew worst and was down to 89 pounds and her skin was yellow. All of this occurred in 1981. Her and her husband prayed and believed for a miracle. She was healed and she is still alive today. He enlightened on how she kept her faith in tack during this difficult season. One of the ways was she kept God’s word in front of her and she read and saw the healing scriptures daily all over her house. She also spoke out loud the healing scriptures over her life. Another insight, she did was write a letter to all of her family members and friends asking them for forgiveness if she ever offended them or hurt them. He revealed the powerful scripture found in Romans 12:18 about being at peace with all people.

One of my favorite things, he discussed was the bulldog faith and how Dodie and the women with the issue of the blood had bulldog faith in believing that Jesus would heal them. He compared the bulldogs to the sport of bullfighting and how they would latch onto a bull and hold on to them where they wouldn’t be killed. This was a very effective example of not allowing the sickness to overtake us or to defeat us. We can all have a fighter spirit. He also shared another example of Bea and how she was a fighter even when she faced multiple different things that should have killed her.

I would recommend this wonderful book on healing to anyone who is ready to increase their faith and they are wanting to learn how to believe for healing. Steve does an excellent job in writing such an impactful book that contained key principles we can use to change our lives physically and spiritual. One of my favorite lessons in the book was speaking out daily scripture declarations about healing, victory, fear, strength, sleep, and peace. I also connected to the prayers he included to pray over different areas of our lives. Another favorite chapter was the only that discussed our temple and how to eat the right foods to protect our immune system and to live a healthier life. I also liked how he explained how he has seen ill patients be given unhealth food options and this is very informative on how this could be one of the reasons that sick bodies aren’t receiving the proper nutrients needed to heal. The keys presented in this book will greatly change your life if you will live them out daily!

The Time-Saving Mom: How to Juggle a Lot, Enjoy Your Life, and Accomplish What Matters Most by Crystal Paine Book Review

In The Time-Saving Mom, Crystal Paine explored the topic of creating a four-step system to organize and simplify our hectic lives and schedules. These included pray, prioritize, plan, and prep. She is a mom of six children and she know the importance of managing her time. In the book, she shared how she is also fostering a two-year-old boy with medical complexities: down syndrome, cleft lip/palate, and a feeding tube. She explained how she realized how critical it is to take the extra time to focus on what matters most. She chose to live her life by asking herself two questions: what will matter in 25 years and what will matter at the end of our lives. One of the strong points of the book was in her sharing how we need to begin each day with God. We need to incorporate time to study the scriptures, begin the mornings by reading His word, posting scriptures where we can see them every day, have accountability, reading while you exercise, and listening to worship music. The book also looked at the 6x2 priority system and these enclosed: marriage, kids, health, friendships, business, just to name a few. This will help readers in investing in our priorities and to focus on just two areas each day. The book contained a special appendix session at the end of the book. These comprised of: a seven-week plan to transform your life, how to find time to read/listen to books, daily prayer journal page, flare prayers, determining your priorities worksheet, priority areas worksheet, time-blocked to do list, to do list habit tracker example, daily habit tracker, and much more.

I would recommend this awesome book to any mom who is ready to gain assistance in organizing their life and priorities what matters most in their life. I really think this book will assist women in finding peace, simplifying, and creating new habits to maximize their time. One of the helpful ways, she does is walking on her treadmill daily and exercising while she reads the Bible or a faith based related book. You could also listen to it on audio tape if you wanted to do a more intense workout. I also liked how she discussed how we need to stop saying we don’t have time to read, exercise, pursue a hobby, get more sleep, and much more. The amazing thing is that we all get to make a choice on how we spend our time and what we focus on. This book will guide us in taking proper ownership on our time and priorities. I really enjoyed the idea of the 6x2 priority systems and how we can use that to focus on what’s important each day. I also loved how she included her own sample to showcase what she does weekly. I liked the idea of writing things down and using a Google calendar to organize our life. I liked how she included tips on creating new morning and evening routines to simplify our life.

Return From Tomorrow by George G. Ritchie with Elizabeth Sherrill Book Review

Return from Tomorrow is a true story about the life of a young solider, George G. Ritchie. He begins by sharing his experience with travelling to Camp Barkeley, Texas for his basic training in 1943. He explained the dust storm and the conditions of the area. They faced a deep coldness in the air. He eventually suffered a sore throat and many were coughing. He ran a high fever and grew very sick. He explained his experience with death and seeing the light and meeting Christ. He felt an astonishing love surrounding him. He travelled with Jesus to witness different scenes and people going through things. He revealed how he was declared dead for nine minutes and how he recovered from pneumonia and was healed. He also shared his story about becoming a medical gradate and a doctor. This edition of the book is celebrating the 30th anniversary.

I would recommend this awesome story about heaven, Christ, and the afterlife to anyone who is looking for an inspirational story. This book hasn’t gone out of print and keeps getting released 30 years later. One of the most powerful descriptions was about the suicides and how they are chained to every consequence they made. I liked how it touched on the addictions that some of these people were facing and provides us with hope in our own struggles. I also connected with how he went into detail about the bright light that was around people. His experiences with death is very eye opening and we can learn about Christ and His love for us.

In Secrets of Sex and Marriage, Shaunti Feldhahn and Dr. Michael Sytsma have teamed up to write a book on the topic of sex and how we can create a lasting marriage. The book touched on eight key areas such as: what’s normal for a sex life, how do we fix our problems in the bedroom, why doesn’t our spouse isn’t interested, how we cannot get bored with sex, and much more. The book was conduct as a research study consisting of 5,300 individuals participating in survey questions and interviews. They begin the book by illustrating the importance of oil is to a car and how critical it is to the wellbeing of the car. It is also like how our sexual relationship can be a lubricant in our marriage. In the book, they explored the notice of only having the goal of climaxing together. Studies show that the average time it takes a male is 5.4 minutes and 14 minutes for a female. They also looked at how often people should be having sex and what is normal with other couples. They also shared how there is a correlation between how often people have sex and how happy they are in their marriage. I would recommend this awesome book to anyone who is ready to dive into a book about sex and tips on building a stronger marriage together. I loved how they included many different studies and interviews to get the message across and help us to learn more about our spouses and their needs. I enjoyed the topic of being curious in the marriage and how this is viewed as a superpower to our marriage life. It’s important for us to be open to what matters to our spouse and then later applying what we learn to build our marriage. It’s truly okay to keep learning about our spouse daily and listening and keeping the relationship flesh. Another powerful chapter is about accepting and grieving the disappointments and extending grace and in turn loving our spouse for who they are. Faith, Doubt, and God's Mysterious Timing: 30 Biblical Insights about the Way God Works by Laurie Polich Short Book Review

In Faith, Doubt, and God's Mysterious Timing, Laurie Polich Short explored key Bible stories about the ways that Christ works and how we can grow in our faith. This book is a follow up book from her book on Bible verses. In the beginning of the book, she looked at the stories of Joseph and Job. When we explore Joseph, we can witness how our perspective can change over time. She shared how critical it is to remember the power of God and how we don’t need to underestimate what He can accomplish through whatever circumstances and challenges we may encounter. The entire story of Joseph displays how events were meant to harm him and instead it turned out to be for his good even if he didn’t realize it at the time. Job story is about how he suffered and lost everything and how we can choose to see God as our companion when we go through suffering. She explained how both Joseph and Job were changed and shaped by their hardships they had to endure and this in turn can encourage us when we are going through difficult seasons. We can also look at our own lives to see how God used our pain and suffering and how He can cause everything to work together. We may even discover new meaning of our painful seasons in life. She shared how in her own life that she was engaged and how she lost that relationship and connection with his children. Years later, she married a man who had a six-year-old son and she shared how all of this worked together for her good and prepared her for the future.

I would recommend this awesome book on stories from the Bible to anyone who is struggling in their faith and maybe even doubting or wondering where God is or if He is still even there. This book is a very inspirational book that contained 30 stories from the Bible. I liked how it enclosed stories about Job, Joseph, Peter, Ruth, Caleb, Joshua, Abraham, just to name a few. I thought this book was very unique in its approach to the message and how she dove into the core message of the scripture passages and explained them in detail. I believe this was very helpful to teach readers the principles and things they might not have seen before in the verses. One of my favorite reminders she discussed was on how peace doesn’t come when the crisis is finally removed. It’s available when we are going through the crisis and we can remember that God is still in control of all of our steps. I really enjoyed how she described how the disciples were afraid of the storm and how Jesus taught them an important lesson about faith. This book would make a great 30-day devotional and allow readers to bring a section a part and really focus on the lesson and teaching of the passage.
