When We Last Spoke Movie Review and Giveaway

When We Last Spoke is a movie based off a book by Marci Henna. This film won awards in each of the five categories at the 2021 ICVM Crown Awards and some of these included best picture and best narrative. The movie takes place in the last 1960’s in a small town called Fireside. Juliet and Evangeline ended up being raised by their grandparents, Walt and Ruby. The girl’s father, James went to serve in the Vietnam War. Their mother decided at this time that she no longer wanted to raise her children. She made a decision to move back to New York to pursue her dream of becoming a singer. While living with their grandparents’ we see the girls face challenges and adventures. Along the complicated life, their great grandmother moves in with them and she is losing her memory. This movie also travels back and forth between the past and the current lives of the girls where viewers can witness the full scope of the storyline. The sister lost touch when one of the sister’s kept the painful truth of the past that their mother didn’t want them anymore. She left town and vowed to never return. An unexpected event causes them to reconnect.

I would recommend this awesome movie to anyone who enjoys a great family film. The film covered topics like forgiveness, healing from the past, learning to adjust to changing family structures, the importance of family, and much more. I liked how entertaining the film was and how there was a mixture of humor but also of sadness. I also loved the chemistry between the sisters and how they continued the story going from the past to the present to show the conflict and the healing they were able to experience. I immensely loved the cast in this movie and some of my favorite was Cloris Leachman (Raising Hope) and Melissa Gilbert (From Little House on the Prairie). I loved Cloris Leachman and the character she played she reminded of the same personality on Raising Hope. She added humor to the film along with in dealing with the difficult topic of dementia. This was also one of the last few films she appeared in since she passed away in January 2021. If you’re looking for a clean family film, then check this one out!

Lead like Christ: Reflecting the Qualities and Character of Christ in Your Ministry by A.W. Tozer Compiled and Edited by James L. Snyder Book Review

In Lead like Christ, James has edited the original story from A.W. Tozer and complied into a new collection. This book discussed how we can become more effective leaders and to lead like Christ would lead the Church. The book looked at in great detail the book of Titus and how Paul was instilled to mentor him and help him to lead like Christ. He begins the book by sharing how Saul became Paul and was transformed into a Christ follower. He explained how this only occurs when believers have a completely encounter with Christ and they receive them as their personal Savior. Titus was an uncircumcised Greek with a Roman name. Around that time, there was a lot of persecution and Stephen had just been martyred. He was born in Antioch and this was a missionary church. He met Paul and was led to Christ. He explained how Paul taught Titus in the ways of Christ and he became a missionary. He became anointed with the Holy Ghost and he travelled around and even went back to Jerusalem. He had two big goals to kill poverty and get rid of stinginess in Corinth. Titus was gifted with the talent to organize. He used three words to describe Titus and these were integrity, discretion, and enthusiasm. Tozer explained how if we are going to be a reflection of Christ. We must learn to display all these qualities to become representatives of spiritual leadership.

I would recommend this awesome updated and edited version of Lead Like Christ to anyone who is ready to get introduced to a historical writer. I immensely liked how it included up to date examples in the book where readers can grasp the message of building our character and learning to reflect the qualities of Christ. One of my favorite chapters discussed how we need to all learn how to deny whatever is ungodly and not fall into the lust of the world. One of the key struggles is for believers to have a backbone and to deny whatever else someone else is doing. I connected with how he revealed how the saints have become the celebrities of today’s time and we tend to follow whatever they are practicing or promoting. I loved how he included many radical truths about understanding Biblical doctrine. This book will guide readers into stepping into their own personal leadership servant role of Christ.

Nicole is a pastor at a megachurch and has her own show on Christian TV. Her first story started on her birthday and she was celebrating her birthday as a newly married couple. Her and her husband worked together at the same company. This was her first time that she saw her husband for who he really was. He didn’t come home on the night or her birthday. She admitted to calling the police but they were unable to file a missing person report. Two days had passed before he finally showed back up at home and she asked where he had been and he yelled at her. She shared how she was flung like a rag doll and he locked her out of their bedroom. Next, she called his mother and he got upset about how she was involving his parents. This is when the physical fights started and she also discovered he used crack cocaine. She revealed how this started a destructive cycle and how he went to rehab a few times and then he would relapse. She even had a few restraining orders against him. He would also drain their bank accounts and max out their credit cards. She lost most of her stuff because he would pawn it off for drug money. She became hopeless and was heartbroken. She also opened up about a painful experience that involved a revolver and he pulled the trigger and no bullet would come out. He later tried to shooting himself and the bullet also wouldn’t fire. She explained how she had faith and hope and how she received two miracles that day. Then, she also looked at the story of Joseph and how he knew his brothers wanted to kill him and how he instead thrived and overcame the trial.

I would recommend this life changing book to anyone who is seeking a book to help you get free from the pain and heartbreaks of life. I connected with her story and I loved how open she was in sharing her story. She wasn’t afraid to open up about her childhood. I think many people will be able to relate to her upbringing. She experienced her biological dad leaving her family, being molested, bullying, being raped, and being abused by her first husband. I also loved how she shared how she met her new husband, David and how she experiences very different things and met with compassion. There is countless wisdom enclosed in this book and it will assist readers into gaining freedom from their own past and move forward towards freedom.
