He Calls Me Daughter Movie Review and Giveaway

About the Film:

He Calls Me Daughter is a deeply personal and emotionally powerful film that explores what it means to carry a father wound and what it takes to heal from it.

Through raw storytelling and spiritual insight, the film reveals how unmet needs from an earthly father can shape identity, relationships, and self-worth. But it also offers a path forward. One rooted in the love of a Heavenly Father who restores, redeems, and redefines what it means to be a daughter.

This is not just a story about pain. It is a story about healing, forgiveness, and identity.

Core Themes to Highlight

1. God as the Perfect Father

Even when earthly fathers fail, God’s love remains constant, personal, and healing. He steps into the gaps left behind and restores what was missing.

2. Healing the Father Wound

The “father wound” shapes how daughters see themselves, love others, and relate to God. This film brings language and clarity to that pain, while offering hope for healing.

3. Forgiveness Through God

Forgiveness is not easy. It is a process made possible through a relationship with God, who enables true release and restoration.

4. Identity as a Daughter

At the core of the film is a powerful truth: your identity is not defined by what you lacked, but by who calls you His.

5. A Message to Fathers

Fathers play a critical role in shaping their daughters’ sense of worth and security. This film is both a wake-up call and an invitation to show up, love deeply, and lead well.

Key Messaging

● This film speaks directly to the pain many women carry but rarely name

● Healing is possible, even from deep father wounds

● Your identity is not defined by your past, but by your Heavenly Father ● Forgiveness is not weakness, it is freedom

● Fathers have the power to shape, protect, and affirm their daughters

My Review:

This documentary features key woman who have experienced father wounds that forever changed their lives and also in the process made them who they are today. Some of these stories included: Chonda Pierce, Alex Kendrick, Lynsi Snyder, Meg Meeker, BJ Arnett, and much more.

It contained a touching story from Pricilla who struggled with a rough childhood and had a disconnect and deep father wound from a lack of a father. She discovered the path of stripping for money and how this provided her a way to make a living. She was able to send money to her brother, mother, and others to help them out. One Thursday, she met a group of ladies from Scarlet Hope. They would bring home cooked meal every week to strip clubs and try and influence and led people to the love of Christ. The film also showed how the idea and background of that non-profit came to be. At first, she admitted to avoiding them all together but overtime she finally gave them a chance. They tried to tell her about Jesus many times but she was always struggling with receiving love. She wanted nothing to do with any man and she didn’t want to worship any man or father figure. The film showcased how she became to know Jesus and was able to find another job that she was good at. When she come to know Jesus, she discovered forgiveness and healing. It was very a thought-provoking moment in hearing her story and how her life was changed.

Another favorite of mine was Christian comedian and author, Chonda Pierce. She explained how her father was diagnosed with mental illness. He was a pastor and she described how he was a terrible husband. He would have a girlfriend at every church he pastored. She recalled seeing her father having sex with different women. She was spanked one time because she didn’t knock. He shared how challenging for her it was in seeing Jesus as a father because of how her dad treated her mother and people in his household. He was living a double life and she longed for the pastor version all the time. She also discussed how this affected her and how she struggled with suicidal shame and depression later on. I have watched clips before of her comedy shows and it was interesting to see more from the person behind the jokes. You wouldn’t have ever seen this side of her in most of her shows.

I loved how the film showed who our Heavenly father is and how perfect He is. He will never let us down and He will help us to forgive others and heal our father wounds and wounds in general. I liked how the film invited watchers to come along side and watchers will be able to connect with at least one part of someone’s story in this film. It is also a call for fathers to step up and to help their daughter’s to be affirmed and to be loved.
