Days” for this review.
In Glory Days,
Max Lucado explored the Book of Joshua and how believers today can live in
their promised land. Max Lucado has discovered that many Christians aren’t
living in their glory days. They are stuck in the wilderness like the Israelites
traveling around and not living the full life God intended believers to live. In
this book, Lucado discussed our inheritance in Christ and how we our joint
heirs with Christ. He looks into how the Israelites struggled to believe and
claim their inheritance in Canaan. Max Lucado strongly believes if believers
would live out their inheritance, we would witness deliverance from strongholds
and anything that is holding us back from living in our promised land. The book
also contains discussion questions where readers can dig deeper into the
message.
One of my favorite chapters was the chapter entitled, “Unpack
Your Bags”. Max Lucado shared a story about Country music singer, Jimmy Wayne.
He grew up without a father and his mother was in and out of jail. She
eventually abandoned him at the age of thirteen years at a bus station in
Florida. He was alone and had no idea what he was going to do next. He came
across an elderly man and he asked him for work. The man pay him twenty dollars
a week to mow his grass. He eventually admitted that he didn’t have a place to
live and he moved him in with the man and his wife. Jimmy struggled unpacking
his bags before he was afraid, he would be forced to leave any minute. Max
Lucado used this story to convey how many of us still have trouble trusting God
completely and we fear His rejection. Lucado shared the power of the cross and
how God loves us and now we have a covenant between him.
I would recommend this amazing book to anyone who is stuck
in a rut and they are ready to begin to live in their promised land. I love how
Max Lucado writes in a modern way that makes the readers able to relate with
the Biblical stories. I liked how he included a number of different scriptures verses
throughout the entire book. I enjoyed the lesson found in reading about Jimmy
Wayne’s life and his challenges. It was a great example of learning to trust
our Father and His inscribable love for His people! I also connected with the
true story of Christian artist, Tammy Trent and how she leaned on God during
her darkest hour. This book taught me a lot about the story of Joshua and how
he led the Israelites into the promise land. I was encouraged to learn about
how I can live in my own promise land pursuing God’s plan for my life.
