My Review:

I would recommend this awesome life changing movie especially to all of the men and women who are longing to connect to their Heavenly Father. They may have not had a great father in their own lives but there is still hope that their loving Creator will make them whole and redeem them and assist them in changing future generations. This movie would make a wonderful documentary movie to be used in the church. I immensely loved all of the five stories presented in the movie. I liked how they all had come from different backgrounds, some of them had loving fathers and some didn’t but they all still were affected. I loved how the movie showcased the effects of a positive or a negative father and how that can influence our identity and direction in life. The whole purpose of the film is to help watchers to come to know their Heavenly Father and to be changed from the inside out. Fathers can choose to change the future generation right now even if their own dad wasn’t the very best. They have the power to change the cycle. I also loved the twists and turns in one of the major storylines in the film and watchers will be greatly surprised by how was able to turn their lives around and bring everything back to together for His good and glory. I also enjoyed seeing more of the background of Stephen and Alex Kendrick and how their father, Larry influenced their own lives. The film also showed how their dad had a lot to overcome to choose to be a good dad when he didn’t have a good example himself. I was also in awe in hearing about the adoption story that Stephen shared in the movie and how God led them to the little girl they were supposed to adopt. All of the stories were very touching and I believe everyone can find a story that they can relate to and connect with in the film.

Quotes about the film:

“Amazing!!!”

- Dr. Gary Chapman

“SHOW ME THE FATHER is the film our nation needs to see. We have become a society that devalues and mocks fathers, but God created the role of fatherhood for a very specific purpose. Many of our children feel unwanted and unworthy because half of their identity is absent. Fathers are necessary for the next generation to heal.”

- Nona Jones, Author, Pastor, Speaker, and Executive

Over It: Forgetting Who You’re Expected to Be and Becoming Who You Already Are by Kelsey Grimm Book Review

In Over It, Kelsey Grimm is determined to help readers to overcome their expectations that are holding them back from living their lives. Many people are dragged down by feeling they aren’t enough and they broke down by their pasts. She explained how she is over it and she described how she was able to deal with her own past and move forward. She first encouraged readers to think of their “it” and what this is that is holding them back from living. These can include: betrayal, dark secrets, diagnosis of a disease, lost dream, addiction, body image issues, and much more.

In the book, she opened up about how she grew up as a pastor kid and how she started singing. She shared how she learned at an early age the expectations that was placed upon her. In college, she thought she would be able to perform and sing whatever she desires. But the music program was more classically inclined. She failed at every single audition and wasn’t ever picked because she wouldn’t fit into the classically mole. She explained how before college that she was always told she was special and that she could sing. She had high dreams of becoming a singer. Instead, she was getting told in not so many words that she wasn’t good enough. She revealed how she met a boy that forever changed her life. He abused her mentally and physically and, in the book, she opened up about some of the details. She also explained how she began to develop more of a personal relationship with Christ. She also revealed a personal story about how she considered killing herself when she was at an all-time low in her life. She also opened up about how she became an artist with her husband, Caleb and they have formed Caleb+Kelsey.

I would recommend this life changing book to anyone who is over it and all of the expectations that ourselves and others have place on us. This book is more geared towards woman but men could always benefit from the message enclosed in this book. I immensely loved how open she was in sharing some of her painful past about her past relationships. She described the horrible events with grace and how she was eventually able to give forgiveness. I also appreciated how she explained how she was saved from suicide thoughts and how she hit rock bottom and was able to redirect her life. I loved how she shared how she developed more of a personal relationship with Christ. She was able to seek healing, get counseling, and break free from the expectations that are holding us back from living openly and freely.

Powerful Thinking by Joyce Meyer Book Review

In Powerful Thinking, Joyce Meyer has written a brand-new resource to help readers in getting their minds right and to develop twelve new mindsets. She explained the importance of thinking and how this has the power to change our lives. She shared how whatever we think about tends to come out of our mouths and this can affect the course of our lives. She revealed the powerful scripture of renewing our minds and how we can be transformed and changed see Romans 12:2. She has included in this book twelve new mindsets people can mediate on and choose to reply on in their lives. This included, “I can do all things through Christ, I am love unconditionally, I will not live in fear, I am difficult to offend”, and much more. Each chapter also included three questions to assist readers into digging deeper into the message.

One of my favorite topics was the one that discussed fear. This chapter scripture was on 2 Timothy 1:7. This one how God has given us power, love, and a sound mind. She explained how fear cause us to become paralyzed and how satan uses this against us to stop us from living our lives. Some of us fear people, rejection, pain, failure, fear of the future, and much more. She went into detail about how we can choose to not be led by our feelings and we don’t have to let fear control us. Joyce described how she had to choose to pray and say countless times that she will not live in fear. She revealed how we can have faith and believe that God is with us through whatever we may be facing in life.

I would recommend this life changing book to anyone who is ready to change their lives and to develop healthy mindsets. I immensely loved how the book contained a vast collection of scriptures where readers can mediate on them and renew their minds. I really enjoyed the chapter on making a decision to not be offended. She shared the truths found in Matthew 24:10 and how many will become offended and how people will betray and have hatred towards each other. This is something we are seeing a lot in the last days. She included the benefits of forgiveness and how we can choose to not to be offended. I loved how the book can be read and studied and applied to our everyday life and I appreciated how Joyce opened up about her own life and included examples to teach the principles in this book.

Built to Belong: Discovering the Power of Community Over Competition by Natalie Franke Book Review

In Built to Belong, Natalie Franke has written a new book about we were all created to be a part of a community and to help one another out. She begins the book by discussing how even before we were born, we were all created and designed to belong. She also shared how we struggle with balancing between cooperation and competition. She opened up about how she started her own photography business. She realized that she also had to rely on others and how she wanted a true community that would support each other. She revealed how she battled loneliness and how being isolated can lead to depression, dementia, cognitive decline, and even suicide. She shared how she dealt with it and how she started to build her own community around the globe and this paved a way for her to connect with others. In the book, she goes into detail about how she was able to kick the comparison wheel to the curb. She helped found the Rising Tide Society in 2015 with three other people and this is a group of entrepreneurs that have a goal of cultivating communities. She faced some backlash from other people saying how other businesses won’t help one another because the business field is supposed to be competitive. She looked at how being so competitive can have major disadvances and they lose the sight of serving their customers and they stop focusing on forming meaningful relationships. She explained how success builds upon success and how much more we can benefit, if we would work together as a collaboration.

She also in the book shared how when she was newly married that they discovered that she had a tumor in her pituitary gland. She shared about how she was afraid to tell people because she didn’t want to be treated any different. Most of all she was struck in the denial phase. She explored how the changing times have also allowed us to hide behind a screen and how easier it is to put up a mask about how we are feeling. In 2017, after five years from being diagnosed, the doctors finally recommend that they perform surgery to remove it. She decided to tell people and she wrote about it on her blog. This taught her the importance of vulnerability and how others were also living their own lives in silence and they began to take their own masks off. She also opened up about her struggle with infertility and how she was eventually blessed with having a son.

I would recommend this life changing book to anyone who is ready to build a community and they are seeking a place to belong. I immensely loved the principles she included and how she encouraged readers to start with themselves. She taught readers how to get past our own insecurities and to learn to love yourself. Then we can focus on discovering and identifying what community we need. One of my favorite areas, she discussed was how to overcome first time phobias and how critical and life impacting it is to remember people’s names. I liked how she shared the whole story about how she started her own photography business and how she was able to also start another business that has helped over seventy thousand small businesses to also choose community over competition.

30,000 Stitches: The Inspiring Story of the National 9/11 Flag Written by Amanda Davis Illustrated by Sally Wern Comport Book Review

30,000 Stitches is a true story based on an American flag recovered from the Twin Towers in New York City on 9/11. This book was written 20 years later. As many people know, this was the day the twin buildings collapsed and thousands lost their lives. This book is the story of how construction workers hung an American flag up and it was thirty feet wide and twenty feet tall. They eventually took it down after it faded to gray and was torn. Six years later, there was a massive tornado that hit Greensburg, Kansas and volunteers come from NY to help rebuild their town. They were asked to bring a memento from Ground Zero and they decided to bring the flag. People from the town saw the flag and came up with an idea to use their own torn flags to stitch and repair the flag. They decided to send the flag to all fifty states and let the whole country help stitch and repair it together as one nation. Veterans, active-duty soldiers, members of Nasa, and everyday people helped to repair it. The book also showed the flag being repaired by the family of Martin Luther King Jr and Coretta Scott King in Georgia. Ten years later and 30,000 stiches later it was finished by tornado survivors in Joplin, Missouri. It was returned to New York and is currently in a museum.

I would recommend this awe-inspiring children’s book to anyone who is looking for a book that helps explain the fabric of America and provides hope in the midst of a terrible event. This is the first time that I have ever heard the story about the 30,000 stitches on the American flag and it was very heart touching. I don’t even recall hearing this discussed on the news. I loved the background story the author included at the end of the book to go more in detail about the flag and the history behind it. I liked how in depth it was and how it showed real life photos showing the real true flag. I also loved the illustrations and the colors of the book. It all appeared gray and darker colors that looked like stiches in fabric to showcase the story of the torn flag and the restoration process.

Dozers Don’t Doze Written by Melinda Rathjen and Illustrated by Gareth Williams Book Review

Dozers Don’t Doze is a children’s book about bulldozers and how they are unliked any other kind of equipment vehicle. They don’t sleep and they just keep going on. Tractors take breaks when they are finished plowing their rows. Race cares make pit stops along the way when they are on the race track but dozers work harder and don’t need naps. Tow trucks get tired and they begin to just drag along. Backhoes don’t because they are stronger because they have to dig in the dirt. There are many more examples included in this book to engage our children.

I would recommend this awesome children’s book especially to any little boys they would greatly enjoy reading the story about dozers and how they are strong diggers, hard workers, and they just keep going through whatever. I love the illustrations of all the different vehicles and how they showed many different types that will keep the attention of little boys. Girls could always read this book if they have an interest in dozers and cars. The book was very colorful and a very easy read. I liked how the book was also in a hard cardboard material and I think these books are great for babies and younger kids since we know they love to try and chew them.

Holy Hot Mess: Finding God in the Details of this Weird and Wonderful Life By Mary Katherine Backstrom Book Review

In Holy Hot Mess, Mary Katherine Backstorm has written a brand-new book guiding readers into embracing their messy life and not pretending to have it all together. Mary starts the book by sharing a personal story about how she went out to lunch with a friend and her husband and how she admitted checked under the two car seats to see if they had crumbs under them. She thought her friend had the perfect life and this helped her to realize that no one is perfect and that everyone has crumbs under their seats. She opened up about how important it is to be open and honest with others and to be willing to share our struggles with others and connect with them on a deeper level. She explained how critical it is to be authentic even in our messy life. In the book, she also shared how she discovered that she had breast cancer and had to have a mastectomy at age 34. She revealed how she had to rely on her faith and unanswered prayers. She was eventually healed. She will also discuss her marriage and parenting and dealing with depression.

One of my favorite stories was one she included was about her mother’s friend Beth. Beth was a cigarette smoking student and her mom was a cheerleader and they didn’t have a lot in common. But they remained friends and she even performed at her wedding. Beth also had a difficult life and lost her husband and released an album discussing the grief. One of the songs that helped her breakthrough from the heartache was one she wrote entitled, “Happy Girl”, which was later a top hit for Martina McBride. Beth also worked with Faith Hill, Willie Nelson, and Elton John. She explained how God is with us and He is there to help us heal.

I would recommend this incredible book to anyone who is live a life freely and to embrace even the messy parts. I immensely loved the stories she shared in the book. She included a mixture of funny and heart gushing stories. I loved the story about the goat adventure and how she encouraged readers to find friends who are true friends. This story will have you laughing at how crazy it was. I also loved the story about the anniversary rat and how her husband got her that for her 1st year of marriage. I appreciated how she shared this personal story and what it taught her about not letting our expectations of another person control us and to offer grace when needed and to realize that each person isn’t perfect.

In This Kind of LoveKaelin and Kyrah Edwards have written a brand-new book about their love story and how they lived through some of God’s promises. They opened up about how they met first back in Junior High. They had two classes together the first day of school and then the second day they were separated because the classes were too full. They became texting buddies and they tried for more but at the time they decided to just stay friends. Kyrah wasn’t allowed to date until she was sixteen. She opened up about how her parents fought constantly and struggled in their marriage. She also discussed how her girlfriends at the time introduced her to church and the youth group. This was the first time she got to know God and His ways. Kaelin was a little different and he grew up in the church and his dad was a pastor. He discovered how he like to work the production side and with the sound system. He explained how he struggled with dating the Godly way and how he chose to date with the intention to marry. Kaelin revealed how a lot of her life at the time was spend on Twitter and how she had gotten her phone taken away by her father for a whole year. She still wasn’t allowed to date and, in the book, they go into detail about how that changed and how they eventually fell in love and got married. In the book, they also revealed how they created a YouTube channel, Kaelin and Kyrah and how they gained a lot of views from a popular prank video when Kaelin threw his phone into the pool. They opened up about marriage life and what it has taught them and how they are learning to navigate the adventure of parenting two small children.

I would recommend this awesome book to anyone who is looking for a new book that covered dating, marriage, parenting, and life in general. I liked how they shared both of their backgrounds and in the book, they switched and shared from both prospective. I immensely liked how open they were in sharing their struggles in their marriage and how they overcame and dealt with them. I also was surprised to see both of their decision on waiting until marriage to have sex. I liked the message they shared about waiting on God’s timing and waiting on God to reveal His plans for our lives.

Chasing Wonder: Small Steps Towards a Life of Big Adventures by Ginger Stache Book Review

In Chasing Wonder, Ginger Stache has written a book about how we can all live a life outside of our comfort zone and truly embrace life with every chance we get. Ginger is an Emmy award winner documentarian, writer, and television producer. She is also works for Joyce Meyer Ministries as a Creative Chief Officer. She begins the book by sharing one of her first adventures. She was eight years old hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. She ran ahead of her parents and climbed a crooked tree. She heard her parents warning her to stop and to come down. She kept climbing to the farthest point. She shared how she soon realized her parents couldn’t reach her and that she would have to climb back down. She admitted how afterwards, she thought it was awesome and she realized that she loved to have an adventure mentality. She opened up about how God wants us to enjoy our life see John 10:10. Throughout the book, she shared how she has traveled the world and has stepped outside her comfort zone to live her life to the fullest. She shared how readers can choose to make time to be creative, discovering your passions, exploring your talents, and letting go of our fears, and going after something we wouldn’t normally do. She explained how we can chase the wonder and she encouraged readers to find the beauty everywhere we go. Some of these could be just the day-to-day activities such as, “beautiful sunrise, kindness of a stranger, toddler’s giggle, snowflakes, puppies, a hug”. But we can also choose to go after bigger adventures like seeing the worlds and exploring.

I would recommend this awesome book to anyone who is ready to live their lives and they want to go on adventures and see the beauty of God’s green earth. I have seen Ginger on Joyce Meyer TV program before and I always thought she had more of a story to share with readers. I didn’t realize how much she enjoyed adventures and some of hers are interacting with different wild animals along the way. I also liked how she encouraged readers to enjoy everyday life and to see the wonder of God’s creation. I immensely liked how she tried to assist readers into living without masks and breaking the pretenses and not living to impress others. I believe this is a timely book for readers to engage in especially since most of us were stuck inside during covid and we can still find creative ways to enjoy our lives.

100 Best Bible Verses to Overcome Worry & Anxiety Book Review

100 Best Bible Verses to Overcome Worry & Anxiety is a book geared to assist readers in dealing with their fears. Bethany House has enclosed a brand-new tool. The book enclosed verses found throughout the entire Bible. Each verse contained a verse, a brief explanation of what the context means, commentary on the meaning, how we apply it to our lives, and additional reading. The book will provide readers with the tools to handle and manage their fears.

The book begins with 1 Peter 5:7 and this one was written by Peter in order to provide hope for the people who were suffering. His message is meant to testify to the true grace of God and stand fast. This verse explained how we need to cast all of our anxiety on God and it reminded us that He cares for us. They reminded readers that Peter walked with Jesus and he was also forgiven by Him when he rejected and denied Him. Peter through experience has learned how to cast all of his worries and concerns to Jesus. This verse helps readers in their own lives in not letting life stress you out but to reply on God.

Another verse included was Matthew 6:33 and this one discussed seeking first His kingdom and His righteousness and how all will be given to you. The context in this one is Matthew who was a tax collector who became an apostle. Jesus preached this sermon on the Mount and this included how we can obey God, praying with humility, becoming a true follower of Christ, and living in freedom from fear. This one reminded us to not to worry and God takes care of the birds and the flowers and how He will also take care of us. It also discussed how when we focus on God’s things and how we won’t have to worry about our unmet needs.

I would recommend this awesome book to anyone who is looking for a resource to assist readers into dealing with their worries and fears. I love the vast coverage of scriptures and how each one tried to connect with the readers by using a real-life example. I also liked how they explored the context of where the scripture verse was written in. I believed this helped in understanding how they were written at the time and what this all means for us. This book is a wonderful collection written by Bethany House. I believe it will help readers to overcome their fears and worries and to live a more fearless life.

The Essential Andrew Murray Collection: Humility, Abiding in Christ, Living a Prayerful Life by Andrew Murray Book Review

In the Essential Andrew Murray collection, they enclosed three of his books in a single collection series. It starts out with Humility, which is about how we need to not cave into our pride. We must choose humility and we have to remember that we are created by God and He dwells in us. He looked at the fall of man and how satan caused his own fall when he was poisoned with pride because he wanted to be like God. He shared how God humbled himself to become man. Jesus became our pathway to salvation. He also looked at the teachings of Jesus and how he stated that the meek will be blessed and will inherit the earth and the poor in spirit will be blessed in the kingdom of Heaven. He also looked at the disciples and feet washing and how this is an example of humility. He explained how we need to see ourselves as nothing and put ourselves aside and let God be our everything. He looked at the character of a faithful servant and how we can be humble.

Abiding in Christ is the second book which is a 30-day devotional. This one discussed John 15:1-12 and how we need to abide in Him and in His word. He looked at how if we will choose to abide in Him, then we will find rest for our soul and taking His yoke. He explored in great detail about the parable of the Vine and the branch and how we can choose to form a union with Christ. He goes on at how we can bear fruit in our lives and how this will in turn help us to have infinite love and how this will cause us to want to serve others. He explained at how the church and the world needs grace and power of Christ and how we can all be witnesses to Christ.

Living a Prayerful Life is about how we need to live a prayer life. He starts sharing how we are all guilty of sinning and not praying. He revealed how this causes a deficient spiritual life and he looked at how we can change that. He explored the Holy Spirit and how we must believe that He is in us. This will help us with being reminded that Christ is omnipresent and His love for us. This book looked at different ways in which we can become prayer warriors and he looked at the life of Paul, George Muller, and Hudson Taylor.

I would this book to anyone who is ready to learn the teachings of a historian. I immensely loved how the collection contained three different books and the book had over 400 pages in it. This book is one that is meant to be read and studied and it will take readers time to medicate on the powerful truths included. I liked how he looked at different characters areas to guide us in our spiritual journey. I enjoyed the topic about humility and how this can help us to humble ourselves before God. The book was very helpful in surrendering our lives to Christ and building our lives up spiritual.
