The Abundance Mind-Set: Success Starts Here by Joel Osteen Book Review

In the Abundance Mind-Set, Joel Osteen has written a brand-new book on how to change our thoughts and to think positive things. He begins the book by asking readers what the vision for their lives is and where do they see themselves in the future and their families. He reminded readers of the importance of what the scriptures declares about our thoughts and as a man thinks of himself so he is. He encouraged readers to picture good things and have an abundance mind-set and to see themselves accomplishing their dreams, overcoming obstacles, addictions, seeing their families restored, seeing themselves blessed, and seeing themselves married and having children. He looked at the Israelites and how they lived in slavery and in the land of barely enough and they had to journey all the way into the promised land. This land contained milk and honey and it was always flowing and they had plenty. They eventually arrived in their abundance, but they had to face many challenges before they got there.

In the book, he shared many stories from people he met over the years and how God was able to exceed their expectations and they walked into abundance. One of the stories was from a single mother of three children who immigrated from Europe. She applied for a job as a secretary at a university and she had a lot of competition. The interviewer was very rough and wasn’t friendly and she was afraid she might not be able to pass the 5-minute typing test. But through it, she believed in God’s power. When the bell went off at the same time, the phone rang and the lady conducting the test got distracted. She was tempted to stop but the lady who was conducting the test told her to keep going that wasn’t her bell. She ended up typing another five minutes and she got the job. One touch of God’s favor allowed her to pass the typing test. She was able to send all of her three kids to the college for free.

I would recommend this awesome book to anyone who is ready to change their thoughts and they want to have an abundance mindset. The book is a shorter book by Joel Osteen and it only contains 5 chapters. This book was made in a smaller book where readers can take it with them anywhere, they go. It would make an excellent devotional reading and this book is meant to be read over and over again where readers can learn to change their thoughts daily. I immensely enjoyed the chapter on, “Turn Up the Power” because this one discussed how important it is to keep God first in our lives and how he will put a commanded blessing on our lives. Joel Osteen shared how we need to remind ourselves positive things and to have faith that God can make our dreams come to pass. He explained the power of the magnet and how we can apply this concept to our lives. We have to focus on the positive and believe that God is attracting good things for our lives. He shared how we need to be believing healing is coming for us, favor is headed our way, abundance is looking for us, the right person is trying to find us. We don’t need to focus on the wrong things such as bad things are going to occur, we will never get married, our finances will never improve, we won’t ever get well, and our dreams won’t come to pass. I liked how Joel Osteen encouraged believers to seek God and let the blessings seek after us and we don’t have to be exhausted and frustrated and catch after them. If readers will apply the principles and the lessons, included in this book, we would see a rise of positive, abundance thinking.

Healing Family Relationships: A Guide to Peace and Reconciliation by Rob Reinow Book Review

In Healing Family Relationships, Rob Reinow explored the wounds that exist in our families and how we can obtain healing. In the book, some of the topics he discussed was, “forgiveness, prayer, repentance, listening, acceptance, spiritual warfare, boundaries, patience, healing through the generations, and much more”. In the book, he opened up about his own family issues. He admits his relationship with his father wasn’t the best. His mother was his father’s fourth wife. His father was his father’s second wife. They ended up divorcing when he was a teenager due to his father infidelity. He revealed in the book how God was able to transform his father and their relationship later in the book. He started the book by exploring the topic of forgiveness and how he was able to forgive his father. He described it as a three phases process. The first step is learning that forgiveness is a choice we can make and he instructed readers to write all our hurts down and then burn them and release the hurt. The second he encouraged readers to follow the scripture and to forgive from the heart and to pray. He was open about having to deal with his angry and hurt. It took him six years in being in phase two. The third is reconciliation between our us and the person who hurt us and try and live peacefully, if we can. He reminded readers we can’t control our family members and how they treat us but we can seek and try and find healing. He also shared personal stories from his marriage, parenting seven children, and his ministry. One common thing is any relationship there is always things we have to heal from in order to live a fulfilled and fruitful life.

I would recommend this life changing book to anyone who is struggling in their family relationships. The book is geared to just family relationships but the principles can also be applied to other relationships. I immensely enjoyed how open he was in sharing his own struggles and how he has had to heal from his own wounds in order to help himself and in turn also to reach out and help others through their own pains. I believe this book has the potential to help marriages and to help relationships between parents and children. We all go through things that over time and build up and cause strive and conflict in marriages and families. One of my favorite chapters was about repentance and how to ask forgiveness from a family member when we are the one who caused harm. If you’re seeking a book to heal your family, then read this book maybe even together!

The Power of the Decree: Releasing the Authority of God's Word through Declaration by Patricia King Book Review

In the Power of the Decree, Patricia King has written a book about how to speak out and decree scriptures over our lives. She shared how she came to know Christ and also how Dr. Oral Roberts influenced her life by teaching her about how when God’s word declared something and how we need to believe it. In the book, she revealed how she taught her son to declare the word of God when he was in the second grade. He was struggling in school and he was calling himself stupid. She recorded a night tape and it covered topics on Jesus is His strength, he is God’s child, he has Godly wisdom, highly favored, and much more. It was a full hour and they played it over their son every night. Eventually, it started to expel the darkness and the lies. She teaches readers how to separate the facts and the promises that we can decree over our lives. She shared how to decree out loud the promises found in scriptures and how we need to speak life giving words. The book is divided into two parts: the first explained what a decree is and the second is written in the style of devotions. Some of the topics included, “identified with Christ, blessing, favor, victory, wisdom, health and healing, family and children, business, workplace, ministry”, and much more. Each chapter enclosed questions to ponder and a decree to say out loud. She also included success stories in the book.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is ready to take back their lives from satan schemes and they are ready to speak the word of God out loud. I liked how many different topics she discussed and it contained many scriptures. I immensely like how she shared who our identity is in Christ and the power that can be obtained when we realize who we truly are. I liked how she discussed favor and how we can be free from rejection when we decree the words of Christ. She shared a story about how a boy was rejected at school and experienced bullying and how he was suicidal at a young age. She recommended that the parents decree over their son and to use visual photos of him being happy all over the house and post positive lifegiving words and eventually he was able to make friends and his life was changed greatly. Rejection lost its sting and the power of God’s word helped to declare and decree favor. This book is a book that is meant to be reread when readers are experiencing with certain issues we should be declaring and decreeing the word of God over our lives each and every day.

Unshackled: Breaking the Strongholds of Your Past to Receive Complete Deliverance by Kathy DeGraw Book Review

In Unshackled, Kathy DeGraw has written a book about deliverance and how to find true freedom from strongholds that are holding you back from the life Christ died for you to have. She begins the book by sharing a prophetic word that Jesus put on her heart to tell His people. In it, she shared how God wants us to have abundant joy and she explored how we can obtain freedom and deliverance. She begins each chapter with an assessment to assist readers in finding out how much they are struggling in an area. Each chapter contained a section called, “walking out your deliverance”. In it, she had scripture verses about the topic, spirits to discern and cast out, prayer of activation, and declarations to speak out. She covered ten strongholds such as, “fear, pride, anger, rejection, victim and poverty mentalities, addictions”, and much more.

One of the first topics, she explored was fear and how fear can come into our lives. Fear is able to enter our lives through generational curses, soul ties, trauma, accidents, and near-death experiences. They can in turn become strongholds of fear over our lives and keep us from living our lives the way Christ intended. She encouraged readers to deal with the fear strongholds now where they don’t get past down until future generations. The way for freedom is seeking inner healing and letting Him change our mind, behaviors, and habits. She explained to readers they have to learn from God’s word who they are in Christ and we need to plead the blood of Christ over our lives and our children. She opened up about some of her own fears such as her fear of dying in a car accident and she would always think something was wrong with her car. She learned how to release the fear over her life and trust God to protect her.

I would recommend this awesome book on anyone who is ready to be free and they are tried of strongholds controlling their lives. This book has the potential to assist readers into releasing the chains of strongholds that is holding them back from life. Most of us have dealt with fear, pride, anger, rejection, and addictions and we all long live a joyful and free life. I immensely enjoyed how she explored many different topics and how she included tons of scriptures to help readers into breaking strongholds. I also liked how she shared prayers and declarations that readers can say out loud over their life to combat the power and schemes of satan. This is a book meant for readers to keep close by and speak out declarations and scriptures whenever they are dealing with certain issues.  I truly believe if readers will take the time to declare over their lives and speak out, and believe that God will help them overcome their strongholds we would see a big change in their lives and even in the entire world!

Leadership by the Good Book: Timeless Principles for Making an Eternal Impact by David L. Steward and Brandon K. Mann Book Review

In Leadership by the Good Book, David and Brandon has written a book about everything we can learn from the Bible and how it can be applied to leadership. David founded the World Wide Technology (WWT) in 1990 and throughout the book he will explained how he build the company. It has made $12 billion in revenues and this company is the largest African American owned business in the world. The business is ranked one of the highest places to work for on Fortune and Glassdoor. It started with just five employees and has grown into thousands. He takes a different approach to his business and he decided for his company to become his ministry. He explained how they formed a Bible study in their office and they explored topics on how to apply God’s work on teamwork, leadership, and customer service. Brandon revealed how he served as the first executive director as the Biblical Business Training and this nonprofit ministry serves in reaching out and teaching God’s word and showing how to apply it to work. They also revealed how they met and how they formed a partnership together. In the book, some of the topics they covered was, “serve, love, imagine, invest, risk, trust”, and much more. Another helpful thing they shared was the “Leadership Flywheel”. They have created an equation that they use for helping other to develop their business and leadership. These included learn, live, lead, and legacy. Each chapter included discussion questions and a prayer.

One of my favorite topics was how as a company they personally serve others and give back to the community. They have even created a day of giving back. They pay their employees to work elsewhere and let them make a positive difference in their community. He explained how they try as a company to help their employees if they are going through a difficult time such as a financial problem, paying for a funeral, making a tuition payment, and helping pay a medical expense. In the book, they also showed research from America’s Research Group and they found out “61% of Americans trust a company who is active in a community.” They also looked at examples in scriptures and what we can learn about giving. One of the ones they explored was the passage of the Good Samaritan and we can apply a lot of this story to business and how we should conduct our lives.

I would this life changing book to anyone who is ready to learn more about leadership and they are wondering what God’s word has to say about it. I enjoyed how in depth they both went into the topics and how they described how they operate their own business and how they strive to make a difference in their employees lives and customers. I haven’t heard of this company before reading this book. I was deeply impressed with the WWT and how it is run and operated. I connected with how many positive features they give to their employees and I wish every company would do more of showing appreciation to their employees. I appreciated how open David was in opening up about his past and the challenges he faced in starting a business and how he also overcame racism and how God lead him into becoming a leader. I immensely believe if readers will take notes and if leaders will try and lead like Jesus would and apply the principles found in the Bible, we will see many positive changes in companies and the lives of employees.

The Jeremiah Study Bible: Psalms and Proverbs by Dr. David Jeremiah Book Review

The Jeremiah Study Bible is enclosed in a gray leather bound book covering Psalms and Proverbs. Psalms was written by King David and Proverbs was written by Solomon. Jeremiah uses the English Standard Version of the Bible in this book. He begins the book by writing a welcome letter to readers. He describes his background of his father being a pastor and his mother helping to live it out in their home. When his father passed, he was gifted sermon notes and his Bibles. Dr. David Jeremiah has been in ministry for over 40 years. Before each book, he included introductions to assist readers in learning the background of how they were written and the timeframe. He also breaks it down until “what it says, what it means, and what it means for you”. He encouraged readers to read, medicate, explore the themes in the books, and join a Bible study to dig in deeper. Throughout the book, it contained sidebars such as, “picture this, historically speaking, fyi, tough questions, and reflection”. It also has essentials of the Christian throughout the book and footnotes on helping readers to understand what they are reading. There are many encouraging scriptures in these two books of the Bible. They both cover themes such as, joy coming in the morning, the steadfast love of God, God is our deliverer, worshiping our Creator, the value of discovering wisdom, speaking life giving words, the woman who fears God, and much more. This is also some special online resources and this includes videos, audio, and additional reading material.

I would recommend this amazing study Bible to anyone who is ready to grow in their relationship with Christ and they are ready to seek wisdom. I immensely like how Dr. David Jeremiah included special introductions and he went into details about what all this means for us and how we can apply daily to our everyday lives. Psalms and Proverbs is probably one of the two biggest books of the Bible people look for when they are seeking wisdom for their circumstances and they both provide comfort and encouragement. I liked how he included helpful footnotes to explain certain key points of scriptures. I enjoyed reading the verses and obtaining the wisdom we can learn from each page. I liked how the book was a nice size and it’s easy to carry around. If you’re looking for a new study Bible on these chapters, then read this book!

Colossians: A Biblical Study Practical Insights for Everyday Christian Living by Joyce Meyer Book Review

Joyce Meyer has written a brand-new Biblical study on the book of Colossians. It was written by Paul while he was in prison and he wrote it in a style of a letter to the Colossians. In this book, he discussed the importance of putting God first in your life. Joyce shared how the first chapter of the book contains 12 keys on how we can grow spiritually. These included living in the will of God, being thankful, living in faith, holding on to hope, rejoicing in suffering, and how we have everything we need in Christ, and much more. In the book, she explained to readers on how they can find out if they are living in the will of God and the difficult people facing in figuring out what they are called to do. One of the critical points she makes is that people need to be courageous and they need to step out and try and not to live in fear. And if they realize that they aren’t living in the will of God, then they can take a step back and try something else. She explained her own past with trying the church’s nursery, street evangelism, and a secretary to her pastor. She didn’t find her true fulfillment and calling until she began to teach people God’s Word. Another key area, she looked at was when Paul recommended the power of thanksgiving and how we need to thank God when we pray. We always need to be thanking God for everything He has given to us.

I would recommend this awesome book to anyone who is looking for a new study book. I immensely enjoyed how in-depth Joyce Meyer went into the book of Colossians. She explained the scope of each chapter broken down until everyday language where readers can understand. I also liked how she included other verses from the Bible to explore the topics of Colossians in the greater focus of the Bible. I love how she also went into details about exploring the image of God and how we have been saved from the darkness. One of my favorite chapters was the one on knowing who you are in Christ and she broke down scriptures for us to medicate on. These topics included, being strengthen in Christ, being rescued from darkness and evil forces, being thankful, being complete in Him, being chosen in Christ. I truly believe if believers would study and speak life over their lives and they would see their lives improve and change. This book has the potential to greatly influence and help readers to grow in their relationship with Christ.

In Revival Rising, Kim Meeder explained how there needs to be a revival rising up inside us and in our hearts. She going into detail about how Jesus died for us and He came to break the bondage of sin off of our lives. God is always with us and we can all be transformed in our hearts, minds, and spirit. I immensely loved the many stories she told about loving others and how she was able to reach out to others in need. One of my favorite stories was a story about a boating accident and how God was with her during the event and how He helped her and this story is a remarkable story about living for God’s will. I also liked the chapter about her testimony and how she shared it with others and how it changed other people’s lives. Each chapter had a statement, scripture, and a special prayer to encourage readers in igniting their hearts in a revival. This book is perfectly released during this virus season and I truly feel like God is trying to stir up a revival in all believers and there is no time like the present to let the believers reach out to the lost and hurting.

Broken Roads: Returning to My Amish Father by Ira Wagler Book Review

In Broken Roads, Ira Wagler has written a follow up book to his first book. This one opens up about the Amish lifestyle and goes into details about his desire to leave. He was born the ninth child of eleven children. His parents were David and Ida Wagler and they was raised in Daviess County, Indiana. His parents moved their family out to smaller communities. His father helped start Pathway Publisher with a few of his friends. They wrote on historical subjects and articles related to the Amish community. Ira shared how he felt they were all less than truthful and try to appear like they were perfect people. In the book, he shared why he decided to leave at 26 and travel down a broken road. He ran away from marrying an Amish girl, Sarah and his father warned him that he would pay for it. He left and decided to pursue and get his GED and how he made his way into Vincennes University. He goes into detail about his life in college and even how he wound up at Bob Jones University. He eventually entered law school and revealed how the Amish community doesn’t really use any lawyers because they don’t sue.

In the book, he opened up about how he met his wife, Ellen and how they struggled in their marriage. He shared how broken their marriage was and everything that played into the fallen out and the decision to get divorced. He shared how his childhood friend ended up dating Ellen later for about a year and how that affected him. He shared how he later was able to forgive his friend and how he even joined a Bible study with him. He also opened up about how he wrote his first book and how it sold a great number of books. He also shared how he returned to his father and what their relationship was like after leaving the Amish. He also got personal in sharing out his mother pasted and then years later his father pasted. He opened up about what their funerals was like.

I would recommend this amazing book to anyone who is wondering about the Amish lifestyle and they are curious on how someone was able to leave it. I immensely liked how honest Ira was in revealing the painful past and going through a divorce. I haven’t read his first book but I was able to still follow along with his life story. I also liked how he explained how his father relationship changed over the years and how God was able to turn it around. The book had a few God teachable moments throughout the book but it was more of an autobiography of his life. It didn’t include tons of scriptures. But I still believe readers will be able to connect and learn from the book.

Reinvent: Start Fresh and Love Life! By Beth Jones Book Review

In Reinvent, Beth Jones begins the book by defining the word reinvent and this basically means to change something that make it look new. Beth is a preacher at Valley Family Church and has noticed that many people are struck in life and they are ready to reinvent their lives. In the book, she shared her personal story of her parents divorcing, enduring bullying in school, feeling rejected, overcoming cancer, and how she dealt with her dreams shattered. She also shared how she walked to church and found out who God is and how she suffered persecution from being the first believer in her family. She opened up about how God has reinvented her own life and changed it for the better.

In the first part of the book, she looked at four reasons to reinvent your life and this included, “the gaps, crossroads, future, and love.” One of my favorite area she looked at was when she discussed gaps and how we need to explore our spiritual fruit in our life. She looked at the parable of the fruitless tree and one of the verses that stands out was found in Luke 13:8. This talks about how Jesus tells a man to leave the fig tree alone for a full year and he is instructed to dig around it and fertilize it. She was encouraged by this parable and she challenged believers to focus on one or two areas that they want to reinvent in their life. She created a list to display and show how some famous people lives changed in one year. Some of these included: Tina Fey, Oprah, Stephen King, Harrison Ford, Martha Stewart, Samuel L. Jackson, Morgan Freeman, and much more.

In the second part of the book she looked at 4 questions, “what do you want, what do you have, what will you do, and why will you do it.” She explored the whole story about the Maven by going into detail and looking at the four questions. She is recently widowed with two sons and she is in a great debt. She is about forced to sell her sons as slaves to repay the debt owed. Elisha asked her what does she have and all she has is a jar of oil. She is told to go borrow a few empty vessels and come back and shut the door and pour the oil into them. Then she must go sell them to repay the debt and they will have enough to live on the rest. Beth goes back and retells the story in her own words and adds the key words from part one into her recap to explain it to readers.

I would recommend this awesome book to anyone who is ready to reinvent their life. I immensely liked how open Beth was about her story and I was able to easily to connect to it. I enjoyed reading about how she was able to reinvent her own life and how God has used her since. One of my favorite topics she discussed was the power of renewing your mind with the word of God. I liked how she included scriptures to encourage believers on how to do just that. These verses included topics such as favor, blessing, joy, strength, wisdom, and much more. One of my favorite verses was Isaiah 43:16 and this one discussed how God can make a way where there is no way. I also loved how she looked at the Maven story and I will admit reading her take on the story was a really powerful example. I was able to see how God is able to reinvent everyone’s story, if they will just let Him.

Happy Campers: 9 Summer Camp Secrets for Raising Kids Who Become Thriving Adults by Audrey Monke Book Review

In Happy Campers, Audrey Monke explored the topic of camping and how positive experiences with camping can greatly change our children’s lives. She shared how she is a mother of five and an owner of Gold Arrow Camp in California Sierra National Forest. She revealed how she saw countless children who benefited and was in turn became a happier child for having the tools and experiences of attending a summer camp. In 2014, she also did a survey with six other summer camps that confirmed 80% of them felt happier. She also shared how mental, emotional, and physical health issues is rising and making it more difficult for summer camps. The other big issue she is seeing is the use of social media and phone usage that summer camps are having to help kids break free from. Another big issue she sees is parents trying to be in control and are being to overparenting. Her goal with summer camp is to teach children life skills to take home and thrive when they aren’t at camp. She wants kids to learn how to be self-sufficient and to help with daily chores and to grow into becoming more responsive adults. In the book, she tackled 9 secrets of camp such as, “connection come first, catch them doing something right, positive practices produce optimistic kids, grit is grown outside the comfort zone”, and much more. In the book, she also looked at the impact of counselors and how they train them to be positive and how they can influence children for the better. She also shared how she has them do a one on one chat with each child daily and many days they ask for a word of the day to describe how their day was. In each chapter, she does a sticky note solution, make it fun, around the campfire, family meeting topic, and diving deeper.

One of my favorite chapters was the one about grit and living outside of our comfort zone. This chapter discussed the importance of helping children to step outside their comfort zone. She looked at three different zone areas such as, “blackout, growth, and comfort” where children live and engage in life. She explained 5 ways to grow grit to assist children into growing up and she also looked at 3 things parents can do to help their children to step out. She was very open in sharing that she has recognized that kids do better on trying new challenges when their parents aren’t watching them.

I would recommend this awesome book about how camping can change your children lives to anyone who is looking for something fun and different for their kids. I liked how she went into detail about sharing her experiences with camping. She included personal stories she heard about how some of the children’s lives changed. I immensely liked how she had a “make it fun” activity for every chapter such as watch a family video, 100 memories recap, and shared outdoor activities. I also liked how she included instructions on how to limit the phone usage for children and rules we can put in place. This book opened up my eyes about the power of camp and how it can be a great tool in helping children to discover new things and to gain responsibility and to take the lessons learned back home.

Supernatural Courage: Activating Spiritual Bravery to Do Great Things by Mickey Robinson Book Review

In Supernatural Courage, Mickey Robinson explored the topic of tapping into the power of supernatural courage and this courage can only come from our Creator. He explained how the Holy Spirit is always there to help us through all of our circumstances. The world is constantly bombarded with fear and many of us struggle with how to handle and deal with our fears. Mickey looks at one of the commandments found in Joshua 1:9 about fear. This talks about how God commands us to be strong and courageous, and God is with us wherever we go. Some of the courage topics he looked at was, “hope, be humble, fight, strengthen yourself, use spiritual gifts, forgive, preserve”, and much more. In the book, he looked at Biblical examples how they handle supernatural courage from God and some of these included Jesus, Joseph, David, Paul, Peter, Joshua, to name just a few.

In the book, he shared how he discovered his career in becoming a professional skydiver. He loved to live in the moment and loved the thrill he felt in jumping out of planes. He shared a personal story about how his life changed. One day, he took a trip with four other skydivers and two of them were rookies. The engine quit and the plane ended up crashing. Mickey revealed he was on fire and he ended up suffering from third-degree burns over his whole body, loss of using his right hand, a brain contusion, and blindness in his right eye. In the weeks to come he was down to 93 pounds and he had multiple infections. The doctors gave him no hope and his body functions started to shut down. He describes how he felt like he was dying and how he realized the power of Christ’s spirit was alive in him. He felt God healing him and the same power that raised Jesus was inside him. He explained how he declared how he was going to walk out of the hospital again and how he experienced supernatural courage from Jesus and he was able to walk again. He also shared how he had supernatural courage in believing and commanding blood to flow in his right hand to help revive the use of his hand. Miraculously, his right hand was healed and the doctor couldn’t believe it. He also goes into details about the healing he experienced in his right eye and how God gave him hope and caused his spirit to rise alongside with the use of the Holy Spirit.

I would recommend this excellent book on supernatural courage to anyone who is ready to discover the keys in relying on God’s power to assist you in overcoming and facing whatever life throws at you. I immensely connected with all of the stories that Mickey shared and even through his personal pain he still believed God for His incredible power to guide and help him through whatever he faced. One of my favorite examples, he revealed was the story about forgiveness and how he had to practice this during a difficult time. His son Michael was born with cerebral palsy and they always believed God would bring them a miracle. When he was 12 years old, they took him to a top specialist to help him with his back and spine. The surgery didn’t work and caused him to lose many more functions of his body. He explained the hurt and the malpractice of the doctor and medical staff and how he had to choose to extend mercy and forgiveness. I also liked how each chapter included meditation scriptures and promises found in the Bible, prayer, activation statements, and a declaration to say over your life and circumstances.

Peace Pirates: Conquering the Beliefs and Behaviors that Steal Your Treasure in Motherhood by Ashley Willis Book Review

In Peace Pirates, Ashley Willis explored the confessions from a mother on raising children, four peace pirates that steal our joy, and the treasure we can discover in Biblical mothers. She begins every chapter by revealing key principles and a personal story from a mother. She ends each chapter with a prayer for mothers. Ashley has a total of four boys and explains throughout the book the joys and struggles she has gone through in parenting. She goes into detail about how she feels like a pirate and some days she feels like she is being toss around in the sea. She explains that the weapons are harsh words, eye rolls, frustration, and acting out events. She admits that sometimes she feels guilty in not being the perfect mother and she is transparent about comparing herself to other mothers. In the second part of the book, she tackled four peace pirates that steal our time and our joy. One of these included, comparison and she looks at different types of mothers that influenced her positively to try and become a better mother. Some of these included, “the planner, free-spirit, all-natural, creative, handy, fit, and much more. She does this to show mothers that all mothers have something unique to bring to parenting their kids and we all have a collection of strengths. We don’t have to waste time comparing ourselves to others.

One of my favorite stories, she opened up about was a story about her third son, Chandler and how he is a screamer and is a loud person. One day, the teacher was very vocal about how frustrated she was with him and how he wasn’t doing well in school. He was acting out making noises in class. Eventually, she decided to observe him and that same day he got in trouble for being too rough, not painting in the lines, and how he got angry about not being called on to answer questions. She talked to her son later and he shared how he never got any good stars and how he felt his teacher never saw him doing good things. Ashley finally found some help when she took him to an occupational therapist and he was taught how to behave in different setting and this immensely helped him. The teacher still didn’t give him any stars and he was still feeling discouraged. Ashley revealed how she struggled with having peace in this and she felt like a failure for not helping to change the teachers perceptive of him. She explained how she felt the teacher couldn’t see past his past and how she struggled with how to take his personality. She shared how she had to surrender her hurts and give it to God and release things she couldn’t control.

I would recommend this awesome book to any mother that is feeling overwhelmed, struggling with comparison, losing their peace, and feeling they aren’t being a good enough mother. I especially like how open Ashley was in the book and how she shared personal stories that mothers could relate to. Parenting isn’t easy and there are always opportunities for us to lose our peace when our kids are acting out. I truly believe this book contains the tools to help mothers to learn how to become better moms and it will help navigate the rough raging waters of parenting. I also appreciated how she looked at Mary’s life of motherhood and the treasures we can learn from her life. I immensely believe this book would be an incredible blessing to mother’s on Mother’s Day.
