Miracle Drug by Richard L. Mabry, M.D. Book Review

In Miracle Drug, Dr. Ben Lambert tragically died from an apparent heart attack. His body turns up missing and is later recovered cremated before they could perform an autopsy on him. Dr. Lambert is the personal physician to the former President of the United States, David Madison. Before he died, Lambert recommend Dr. Josh Pearson if something was to happen to him. Dr. Josh Pearson becomes former President Madison new physician. Josh’s girlfriend, Rachel went to South America for a special trip along with the Madison and a small group of people. Rachel and Madison develop a cough and had a raw throat. Dr. Pearson believed they both have diphtheria and they were supposedly given immune shots before their trip. They are in both need of a miracle drug to heal their bodies. Meanwhile someone is trying to kill the former president. Will they succeed? Will they have enough antidote for the both of them? Will Dr. Pearson have to make a difficult choice on who gets it? Who killed Dr. Lambert? Many questions will be answered in this book!

I would recommend this amazing book to anyone who enjoys medical mystery novels and they love a good adventure. I liked how Dr. Richard L. Mabry, M.D. explains the medical terminology in way a non-medical background can understand what occurs. I also loved how he described the steps and process it takes for the FDC to approve new drugs. I have read a few books by Dr. Mabry and let me tell you, his stories keep getting better and better. His new book is very fast paced and it will grab the reader’s attention until the case is solved. I liked how Dr. Mabry was able to keep me guessing on who was behind the crime and who was attempting to assassinate the former president. I also liked how the book enclosed discussion questions to assist readers into digging deeper into the meaning of the story. I also liked how they included the first chapter of his next book, “Medical Judgement”. I can’t wait to read his next book! If you’re seeking a new mystery book, then read this one!

About the book:

Miracle Drug
(Abingdon, September 2015)

Overcoming these odds will take more than a miracle drug---it will take a miracle.

The infection wasn't supposed to happen, but it did. The treatment was supposed to take care of it, but it didn't. Then Dr. Josh Pearson discovers why---his patients, including the former President of the United States, have been dosed with a different strain of the original virus, one that is universally fatal. The only chance for survival is treatment with an experimental drug, but the manufacturer might already have discarded its supply.

As if treating the President of the United States isn't stressful enough, the situation goes from bad to worse when Rachel Moore, a nurse Josh is falling in love with, falls ill. With the nation's eyes on him, Josh must pull off a miracle to save a man who holds a good deal of power and the woman who holds his heart.

Buried Secrets: Men of Valor Series by Irene Hannon Book Review

I’m a member of the Family Christian Bloggers and they provided me with a free copy of Buried Secrets for this review.

Buried Secrets is a romantic suspense series that features three brothers who all have military background. A dead body is discovered buried deep underground by a construction crew in Missouri. The chief of police and former homicide detective, Lisa Grant and Detective Mac McGregor is called in to investigate the troubling case. Detective McGregor is an ex-Navy SEAL who left the force for a safer career choice. The two first meet while investigating the deadly crime and they are determined to find who out who the person is that was murder. Meanwhile, they also are slightly attractive to each other and there is a budding romance that they are trying to put on hold until after they solve the case. The person who committed the crime is also trying to stop them from discovering the hidden truth. Will they survive and get justice for the person killed?

I would recommend this amazing suspense packed series to anyone who enjoys mystery mixed with a little romance. This is the first book that I have read by Irene Hannon and I will definitely be checking out her other books. I immensely liked how Irene Hannon described the dramatic scenes as they were unfolding and I was instantly captured into the storyline. While reading it, she begins the book by revealing who committed the crime but not why until later. I thought this was a unique approach in this mystery novel, since many novels expose a little bit at a time to let readers guess who might have committed the crime. My favorite character was Mac McGregor because I liked how he had an intense charm about him and how he was desperately trying to win Lisa’s love. This book also included an excerpt from the next book in the series and this one is about Mac’s brother, Lance McGregor. I can’t wait to dive into the next book in the series! If you’re seeking a new summer read, then this is the book to pick up!

Deeper Than Red: A Novel by Sue Duffy Blog Tour

Deeper Than Red is the final book in the magnificent Red Returning trilogy. I immensely loved how Sue Duffy was very descriptive in describing the numerous suspense-filled scenes. I thought she did a superb job in intertwining all three books in the trilogy together and she is a very creative author. Having read the other two novels, Sue Duffy did a major switch up that honestly, I didn’t see coming in this book. She added a psychic and an occult aspect to the plot and it helped to reinforce that we are in a fight against spiritual forces but the light always wins. I like how this novel touched on faith and how they had to trust God and rely on their faith during tough times. I also liked that it had some romance spread throughout along with a political theme.

I would recommend this series to anyone who loves a fantastic thrilling trilogy! And readers won’t be disappointed with the action packed mystery! I’m excited to see what new trilogy Sue Duffy comes up with next!

About the book:

Twenty-year-old Tally Greyson isn't consumed with her own education, social life, or career goals like most young women her age. Instead, she's trying to save her mother from the grasp of a seductive cult. What Tally doesn't realize is that in this community, there's a far greater danger than any she can imagine--and she and her mother aren't the only ones in its sights. There are plots brewing here that will threaten the fate of the world.

Concert pianist Liesl Bower has put her own dangerous past behind her, and in her Charleston family home, surrounded by those who love her, she's preparing for a world concert tour with her dear friend, violinist Max Morozov. She thinks she's safe; the man who tried to kill her is dead, his coconspirators have been rounded up, and no one knows she had anything to do with saving the world from a new revolution.

That is, until a world leader is assassinated on the other side of the globe, setting events into motion that could kill the U.S. president, destroy Washington--and take everything and everyone Liesl loves with it. A madman is at the controls now. Even with the backup of the CIA and the dubious protection of a former KGB agent, this time they may all be too late. The heart-pounding final book in the Red Returning trilogy, Deeper Than Red goes further into the world of espionage and action than ever before, delving into the very worst powers of darkness, and pitting them against the light of faith, love, and forgiveness.

Red Dawn Rising: A Novel (Red Returning Trilogy) By Sue Duffy Book Review

My Thoughts:

Sue Duffy is back with the second book, entitled Red Dawn Rising in the Red Returning Series. Cass is the main character in the second novel, whereas Liesl was in the first novel. Cass Rodino is a young set designer who designed sets in the Lion King, Phantom of the Opera, and Wicked on Broadway. She is about to see her very life change before her eyes. Her mother begged Cass to investigation and follow Cass’s step-father, Hans Kluen. He always claimed he was meeting business clients late at night and they believed that he was having an affair. Hans Kluen arrived at an apartment building and she saw a man close the drapes on the third floor and there were another man and woman behind him. When Hans Kluen left again in a cab, she was determined to get to the bottom of the secrets. She enlisted her friend, Jordan Winslow into helping her.

Meanwhile, Evgeny Kozlov, a former Soviet intelligence is back and he realized that he was serving and working for the wrong person. This time he is desperate to stop the Architect who has evil intents to destroy American’s people trust in their leaders and to reform the Soviet Union. The Architect is also wanting to kill Liesl, a famous pianist. Cass, Jordan, and Evgeny must team up in order to admit to rescue Liesl. Will the Soviet Union success in gaining control? Will Liesl and America survive? Can they handle the secrets that will be revealed?

I would recommend this splendid novel to anyone who enjoys reading overflowing suspenseful novels and teenager and adults would infinitely be entertained. I read the first book in the series and Sue Duffy has amplified the action and readers will be longing to get to the bottom of the truth. The series keeps getting better with every book! I can’t wait to read the third and final book the series! I immensely liked the overall mystery feeling and the plot covering the Soviet Union. I especially loved the enormous secret that was exposed about Cass and her past and how she struggled to accept it. I completely didn’t see this one coming and most readers won’t. The book also enclosed a potential romance between Cass and Jordan and sparks being to fly. Throughout the novel, I actually believed that the gigantic terrorist attack could occur and the Soviet Union might be revived. If you’re seeking a vivid summer mystery book filled with a little romance, then this one is for you!

Trying to right his wrongs, he's in a race against time and against a former colleague, Ivan, who has sinister plans to bring down the United States, including an assassination attempt on famed pianist Liesl Bower.

Darkness Before Dawn By Ace Collins Book Review

Darkness Before Dawn contains a phenomenal plot about the effects of drunk driving and having Faith when life spins out of control. Meg Richard’s is a nurse at a local hospital committed to helping sick people. One night, her life falls apart and everything completely changes. Her husband, Steve Richards was on his way back home when his vehicle was struck, and he was killed by a young drunk driver. The police found out that a high school star athlete, James Thomas was behind the wheel. He was injured in the crash but only received minor injuries. James is also a judge’s son and he believed that he would be let off the hook for the crime because of his father’s position and because he got hurt. He felt no guilty for causing the death of another human being. Meg is relentless in making sure that James pays for the death of her husband. And to add more drama to the story, on the same night her husband is killed, she discovers that she is pregnant with their first child. Like anyone who has lost a loved one, she begins to blame God for not preventing the deadly crash. She is torn about keeping the baby or having an abortion. Will she end up having the baby? Will James be convicted of the crime? Can Meg find a way to trust in God again?

I would recommend this wonderful book to anyone who enjoys reading plotlines about real life issues. I believed that this book was written to fit in today’s times. This book covered the effects of drunk driving, grief from losing someone you love, young people not realizing the impact their actions have on others, pregnancy and deciding whether to keep the baby or have an abortion, and trusting God when things go wrong. I immensely connected with the dilemmas that Meg faced and I felt for her when she lost her husband and she was expecting a baby. Losing a spouse is beyond unimaginable and it’s one of the hardest things people have to experience. And being a single parent now because of a drunk driver would damage anyone. I understood the grief and anger Meg held towards James. I also hated how James didn’t feel much remorse for driving drunk and killing someone. We need to teach our children to have empathy and to make wise decisions. I loved the details Ace Collins included to depicted and shape the story into an exciting plot! If you’re looking for a new exhilarating book to read, then this one is one worth reading! Hopefully this book will cause readers to think twice before getting behind the wheel drunk. If you’re thinking about having an abortion, this book will influence you into thinking otherwise. Always remember that our behaviors and actions doesn’t just affect us, they affect the whole world!

Stress Test By Richard L. Mabry, M.D. Book Review

Stress Test is a fiction novel that contains loads of suspense for the reader to enjoy. This is the first book that I have read by Richard L. Mabry. I can truly declare that he knows how to write an intricate plot that will engage readers into the very last page. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to read medical, mystery, suspense, romance, and adventure filled novels. I deeply connected to Matt’s, who is a likeable doctor and he is exceedingly determined to save the patients’ lives. He has a dilemma and is being framed for a murder that he didn’t commit. I extremely don’t like when the innocent are being set up and injustice is taking place. Sandra is a lawyer that is struggling to find love and she prays to God one day to guide her in finding her husband if he even exists. God heard her prayer and throughout the book you will see if God does indeed have a husband for her. She also represents Matt and she tries to prove that he truly is innocent of the murders.

I immensely loved the Faith aspect of the novel, Matt wasn’t trusting God and didn’t really understand God’s love for him. But when circumstances began occurring and he has no one else but God to turn to. He starts praying again for the first time in years to be set free from the murder charge. Sandra on the other hand was a professing believer and has trouble dating doctors because of her last bad relationship with a doctor. Both of these characters have a lot they must overcome and deal with. The novel gave me encouragement that I should continue seeking God in finding my wife and the book displays that God can turn anything around. The book also had massive amount of twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. If you’re looking for a new exciting fiction novel to read, then this one will definably influence that God is in ultimate control and he can turn everything bad to good. The novel left me with a sense that God is directing our paths if we don’t see how everything is going to work out.

He does so, but at a price: a head injury that lands him in the ICU . . . where he awakens to discover he's being charged with murder.

Sandra Murray is a fiery, redheaded lawyer who swore she was done with doctors. But when Matt calls, she knows she can't walk away from defending someone who is truly innocent.
