The Bible Recap: A One-Year Guide to Reading and Understanding the Entire Bible, Personal Size Imitation Leather by Tara-Leigh Cobble Book Review

In The Bible Recap, a one-year guide, Tara-Leigh Cobble is a wonderful guide to help readers to go through the entire Bible within a year. She begins by sharing how she struggled with reading the Bible. She felt reading the Bible was challenging and sometimes she had a lack of desire. She realized that she was making three mistakes. She was seeking the Bible for her own personal reasons to feel like she was doing good and following proper morals. She shared how was kept looking over the same passages again and again and would discard the rest. She described it as jumping in a movie and seeing only five minutes of it. It’s impossible to truly comprehend everything. She decided to read the entire Bible chronologically and to see the Bible in the full context to better understand it. She will take readers through the scriptures as they happened. She explained how she would read the Bible and start to ask questions such as, “what does the Bible say about the passage, what does God reveal, what he hates, what attributes are displayed”, just to name a few. Her approach to the Bible is she wanted to focus more on the character of God. This is where she got the idea to include a God’s Shot session on each day to make it easier for us to see more of who God is. Readers are meant to read the scriptures first, then to read the summary and highlights of what the verses were about.

I would recommend this awesome book written to guide readers through the whole Bible. I immensely enjoyed reading the summary and highlights of the passages and how she went in order chronically and not just the chronically order of the Bible chapters. It helped to see the whole picture of what the Bible is all about. I liked how she enclosed the God’s Shot and I thought these really helped to understand more of God’s character. Some of these included how God is making us righteous, how He is faithful, sovereign, goodness, and much more. I liked how they put a blue ribbon in the book to make it easier to read and bookmark your spot. This is an incredible resource to use to study the Bible and gain more knowledge about who God is and His character. I have ready and use some of the other resources in this series and she does a great job at making the Bible simpler to read.

Israel: Beauty, Light, and Luxury (A Vibrant, Full-Color Coffee Table Book with 350 Photos of the Holy Land's Features, Flora, & People. Also Includes 31 Bible Devotionals) by Tara-Leigh Cobble Book Review

Israel is a beautiful book enclosed with high quality photography. There are tons of photos showcasing the beach, ocean, the River Jordan, the Garden Tomb, Jerusalem, Dead Sea, just to name a few. The book also showed different food served and some of it was desert. They all looked so tasty! She included a 31-day devotional throughout the book. These include a short story about Israel and historical facts and a verse.

The book shared about Beit Sahour/ Bethlehem. She explained how many of the homes were built on top of caves in Biblical times and they had a cave basement. In the winter months, they would light a fire in the doorway to keep the animals warm. She revealed how Jesus was likely born in the summer months and not in December. It estimated to have occurred between June and September. It would have also allowed cave basement, Kataluma open for visitors staying over. She also explained how Jesus was born in a stone manger. Most of us picture the manger always been made of wood.

The book also looked at the Mount of Olives and how critical it was in the reign of Jesus. It is the hill where Jesus’ rode down the fill on Palm Sunday. It contained the Garden of Gethsemane where he prayed before he was killed. Zechariah has stated that Jesus will return to that same mountain and Jesus will cause it to split in two. He will also enter the city through the Eastern Gate which is now blocked off by cement. Jews were instructed to never walk through a cemetery because it would cause them to become unclean. She clarified to readers who nothing is going to stop Christ and He will move the hill when it is time to do so.

I would recommend this astonishing book to anyone who is curious about Israel and they are wanting to observe pictures from the Holy Land. They were all incredible and gorgeous. I loved looking at the blue and green colors of the ocean and sea. The beach ones really wanted me to leap inside the pages and enjoy the fresh air. I was shocked to see how little the sea of Galilee and how you can see the entire sea all at once. It would be eye opening to imagine and to see firsthand where the disciples lived and stayed. It was also interesting to learn about the hometown of Mary Magdalene and how they uncovered the Magdala Stone. I enjoyed reading the devotional that was spread throughout the book. I wouldn’t really consider this one just a sole devotional style book. It would make a great coffee table book or placed somewhere visitors can enjoy looking at. It would be a great gift for office places if they get lots of clients.

The Bible Recap Discussion Guide: Weekly Questions for Group Conversation on the Entire Bible by Tara-Leigh Cobble Book Review

In the Bible Recap Discussion Guide, Tara- Leigh Cobble has created a weekly guide designed for a study group setting. This guide will take you through the whole Bible in an entire year. This is a great tool to use along with the Bible Recap. This guide’s questions are uniquely geared towards personal reflection. She explained the term God shot as a way to witness and look out for daily snapshots of God’s character and attributes. She also included five daily prayers we can pray for these enclosed, “prayer for wisdom, to correct any lies we may be believing, direct our steps”, and much more. She also has a journal and a daily study guide available.

I would recommend this weekly discussion guide to anyone who is seeking a book to help you dig deeper into the message of the Bible. It makes a wonderful addition to the Bible Recap book. I would believe you would need both to go deeper into the message. She also has free podcasts and other free resources available to grow in our knowledge in the written Word. I loved how the weekly questions are easy to read and understand just like the original Bible Recap book. This is a great resource to use in a group setting such as reading with a few friends even if it’s a Facebook/Zoom group, a Sunday school class, or a small group. I liked how simple she tries to make it for readers to understand more of God’s character.

The God Shot: 100 Snapshots of God’s Character in Scripture by Tara-Leigh Cobble Book Review

In The God Shot, Tara-Leigh Cobble has written a brand-new devotional. She chose to cover the New Testament. The goal of this book to help readers understand more of God’s character. Some of these included that God is peace, God of all nations, protects, joy, empowers us, patience, grace, saves, and much more. Each day directed us towards a name of God or an attribute of God.

The first day discussed Matthew 6:25 and how we aren’t supposed to be worried about what we will eat or drink or what we will wear. She explained the context of the verse and how Jesus was instructing us not to be anxious about anything. Everything in this life is fleeting and is passing away and it will only be temporary. Our focus should only be on what is to come and how we will one day be living with God in His Kingdom.

I would recommend this awesome devotional on short God’s shots to anyone is seeking a quick devotional to read daily for 100 days. I loved the message enclosed and how each day pointed to key feature of God’s character. One of my favorite devotionals was about how love will never end. But prophecies will, tongues, and knowledge will all fade away. I immensely loved how instead we can remember that love is the only thing that will truly matter and it will last until the end of time. I loved the style of the book and how easy it is to read.

The Bible Recap: Daily Questions to Deepen Your Understanding of the Entire Bible Study Guide and Journal by Tara-Leigh Cobble Book Review

The Bible Recap Study Guide follows the readings and teachings found in the same book under the same title name. The only thing the series of this book is that there isn’t a Bible with it. Readers are free to choose whichever version they prefer. There is however a podcast series available for listeners. The book is meant to be read in 365 days where we can get through the whole Bible in a year. This study guide contains questions to help readers to dig even deeper into the daily readings. Some of the questions ask about who wrote the book of the Bible, why, when, and promises that God declared. The questions enclosed objective, subjective, critical thinking, and ones that will assist you in researching the topics at a deeper level.

The Bible Recap Journal is an additional resource for readers to help readers in writing down their thoughts about what they learned in their reading. She included a section called things I loved/questions/God Shot just to name a few. God shot is a special section dedicated to learning and looking at the character of God. There is also a short statement at the end of each page to understand and pray on.

I would recommend these awesome resources to anyone who is ready to learn more about the Word. The questions are very open and ended and it will cause readers to ponder what God is trying to communicate to us in His Word. I have read some of the actual book and I honestly love the way it is written and how easy it is to follow and to read the whole Bible in a year. This is a perfect time for readings to obtain a copy of the book, study, journal, and listen to the podcast. The New Year is just around the corner and it’s a perfect time to begin. I’m also thinking about restarting over and using all of these resources together to build up my faith and to gain more knowledge about Christ.

The Bible Recap: A One-Year Guide to Reading and Understanding the Entire Bible by Tara-Leigh Cobble Book Review

In The Bible Recap, Tara-Leigh Cobble has written a brand new chronological reading plan following along to the Bible. In the first part of the book, she explained how she struggled with understanding and reading the Bible. She admitted she sometimes had a lack of desire or motivation to read the Bible even though she was in full time ministry. She shared her mistakes and how she viewed the Bible as a big to do list and how if she did everything correctly God would be please with her. She realized when she read the Bible front to back, she was able to better grasp what the scriptures mean as part of a whole. She also explored the background of who wrote each book of the Bible. Her approach to the Bible in this book shows more of a highlight of what readers read in their daily reading of the Bible. She focused more on the character of God and less on when the temple was built, destroy, or rebuilt. Her goal is for readers to learn the truths found in scriptures and to be able to stand firm when life doesn’t turn out like you imagined. She used mainly the ESV version when she was quoting scriptures. Each day included a highlight and a recap of what occurred in the chapter and a “God shot”.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is struggling to understand what they are reading in the Bible and they are wanting to get closer to God. I immensely liked how the book included a few paragraphs of what the chapters meant and it was a nice recap that was written with details in order to explain what readers just read. She used the ESV version but readers could also follow along with whatever version they chose to. I also enjoy the aspect of it being in chronological order to help readers to better understand what is happening. She did sometimes jump around but when she did it, she explained why she did so. She made it easier to understand what I was reading in the Bible chapters and how they can assist me in developing a deeper relationship with my Creator. I also liked how she included a God shot moment and, in this section, she explained God’s character found in these verses. She also encouraged readers to look for their own snapshots of God in their daily living.
