My Review of the Livestream:

Anne Wilson did a special album releasing livestream on Wednesday, April 27. The show lasted a little over an hour. At the very end, she answered some fan questions. She performed some of her biggest hits so far. She belted out the lyrics to “My Jesus”. She explained a little about how it was written and who she wrote the song with, Matthew West and Jeff Pardo. The biggest surprised of the night to me was when she brought out Hillary Scott from Lady A. They teamed up on an amazing song about Mamas. There harmonies were spot on since this was the first time, they performed it live together. At the very end of the night, it was cool to see she has broken records at such a young age especially in Christian music.

  My Album Review:

1. Prelude (Scatter): I liked the intro to this song and it’s basically just instrumental and it reminded me of an opening for a live show.

2. Scatter: This one is about how our praise is gonna shake down the walls of Jericho. It will cause our enemies to scatter. The word of God is powerful and is our shield.

3. My Jesus: is a personal story about the death of her beloved brother. He was killed in a car accident in 2017. The lyrics of this song is beautiful and you can see why it’s such a hot song on the charts for over a year now. It discussed how many of us may be weary and carrying too much. She explained to listeners about how she is going to tell us about her Jesus. It talked about how Jesus makes a way and how He rose from the grave. It described Jesus and His love for us.

4. Devil: This one discussed how the devil was celebrating and thought he won the fight. He was in for a surprise when Jesus rose from the grave and our sin went running away. The song turns around and explained how the devil got scared and death is coming to the devil.

5. Sunday Sermons: This one talks about her salvation and how those Sunday sermons changed her. She could hear Jesus telling her how much He loves her. It makes a powerful statement about how the devil is going to try to take us out of church but you can’t take the church out of me. I personally liked this one the most of the album. I enjoyed the meaning behind the song and how the devil can try and take us out of the church but even if we don’t have the church the message of Jesus is still going to stay alive. I also liked how at the bridge, she sung a little of Jesus loves me and I thought this added me more to our church upbringing.

6. Hey Girl: This song is a wonderful song to women about how they are listening to others about their worth when they need to be listening to God. She stated how you need to repeat after her the chorus and declare it. She is blood bought and all of our shame is gone. This song is a great reminder of how much God loves us and where to find our true worth. On this track, her voice reminded me of Maren Morris and she seems to have the same tone like she does.

7. This House: is a song about our house and how it needs to be centered on God’s word. If you lay our trust in anything else then our house will fall. I liked how this one explained how we can put up crosses and stain glass but if it isn’t built on the word of God it will fall.

8. Mansions: This one is probably my second top favorite on the album. This one discussed how we have a mansion waiting for us in Heaven. This one is a celebration of the life to come after we die if we believe and received Jesus into our lives. It also talks about how we will get to have a reunion with our loved ones.

9. Mamas (with Hillary Scott): This is a song about Mamas and how important they are. The lyrics describe our connection to our mothers or a motherly figure. They are there for our scraped-up knees, wiping our tears, remembering that they are always there for us, and reminding us to never giving up on our dreams.

10. No Place Like Home: is another song about remembering there is no place like home. It describes her and her brother hanging out and playing together. It explained how she misses him and how she wishes time will just slow down.

11. God Thing: Another favorite would be this one. This song included ways that God shows up in our lives. This could be someone changing their ways, getting healing, and finding money in our wallet. We can learn to see it as a God thing.

12. That’s What We Need: This one explained how we need to be the hands and feet of Jesus and have the faith to move mountains. It’s about loving others and how the world needs us to be like Jesus.

13. Something About That Name: This one described the name of Jesus and how we pray it over our families, speak it out, sing it out loud, and how it changes us. There is incredible power and how it sounds like amazing grace.

14. Closer To God: This song is about feeling lost and been brokenhearted. This brings us closer to God. When we have lost hope and felt alone really, we were closer to God.

15. My Jesus (feat. Crowder): This one begins with Crowder singing and feels like a powerful worship song. It has more of a Hillsong church vibe. They are great at harmonizing together and their voices blend perfectly together. I wouldn’t be shocked if this one is also sent to radio at some point.

Overall, I enjoyed watching and listening to the whole album. I believe this album will continue setting records. She may even go on to be the Taylor Swift of Christian music. I can also see her going on to add more country style into her work. I think personally she has that southern sounding vibe to our album. I also loved how she has worked with High Valley and covered Boondocks by Little Big Town. I immensely loved the message she shared about losing her brother and how open she is in sharing the pain and how God has always been there for her. I believe listeners will be able to connect to her lyrics and gain a closer relationship with Christ.

Nichole Nordeman- The Unmaking EP Album Review

Nichole Nordeman is back with a brand new six songs EP, "The Unmaking". This is her first album since the album “Brave” in 2005. Nichole Nordeman has had a couple of hits including the popular song, “Holy”, “Legacy”, “Brave”, “What If”, and “Real to Me”. She has also won four Dove Awards.

The album begins with the title track called, “The Unmaking”. This song discussed breaking down the walls that surround us. We must let go of the past and everything that has held us back from the living the life God indented for us. When we let go, we find out who God truly is and we see the beauty in being broken.

The second track was a song called, “Not to Us” and this one features Christian artist, Plumb. This one talked about creating images of ourselves and pursuing our own dreams without consulting with God first and building on sinking sand. The chorus talks about giving all the glory to God and not thinking it’s all us. I liked how the song was written like a praise song and it conversed the importance of giving God all the glory for everything and pointing others to him. I love the harmonies Plumb and Nichole Normeman had on the track and this would be a great single for radio.

My favorite track would be track three, “Name”. This song discussed waking up and seeing the truth about how much God loved us and how he wrote our name in blood in His book. The chorus reminds us that we have the heartbeat of God and we aren’t our ashes and He knows our name. We have to avoid asking the shadows (the devil) who we are. The third verse/ bridge has such a powerful declaration for believers to encourage them when they forget how much God cares about them, and how we a friend of God, and we’re chosen. I loved the lyrics of this song and the reassurance of God knowing our personal name and people truly need to know this in this crucial time we live in. The message of hope will resonated with listeners and I hope this song make it to radio and is a huge hit!

Track name four was entitled, “Loved You More” and this one talked about different Biblical stories including fleeting when the third time the rooster crowed, climbing a tree to see Jesus, being swallowed by the sea, and selling Jesus for a little silver and a betrayal kiss. The song related it back to how we did the same things and He still loved us. It also contained a cry to love Jesus more and a sense of gratuity for our second chances. I really loved and connected to the meaning of the song and wanting to love Jesus more. And He so gracefully still does even despite my countless failures. I liked how this song had the piano as the main instrument in this song and it gave it a peaceful Holy connection to God.

Track number five was titled, “Something Out of Me” and this one dicussed the story about Jesus feeding the crowd of 5,000 with only five loafs of bread and multiplying it where it was enough for everyone. It was written in the perceptive as being one in the crowd and being in the back of the line and watching there be enough left. The chorus talked about how God takes something out of nothing and turns it into something. It also discussed how God takes our doubts and making something out of me. I liked how this song had a great tempo and it also contained a great reminder of how God can do the impossible.

The last track of the EP was called, “Slow Down” and this one was about the raw truth about children growing up and how she wished the time would just slow down. It talked about the different stage of our kids growing up such as, learning to crawl and walking and even rolling their eyes. This song was a plea for time to slow down and many parents will most likely cry through it.

I strongly recommend Nichole Nordeman’s new album to anyone who enjoys listening to Christian music. The albums features a mix of fast and slow tempo songs and there is something for everyone to enjoy. I’m so glad Nichole Nordeman has returned to singing and she has made an incredible EP for fans to love and listen to. If you’re looking for a hot new album to check out, then check out this album!

About the new album The Unmaking:
"Before things in our lives can be resurrected and given new life, certain things must die.  Before beauty blooms in spring, roots must do the hard work under the hard frozen soil of winter.  Before you renovate and re-build, you tear down the parts of the structure that are weak or damaged or dangerous.  Before we make, we must unmake."  Nichole Nordeman

Jason Crabb: Through the Fire Album Review

I’m a member of the Family Christian Bloggers and they provided me with a free copy of Jason Crabb: “Through The Fire” for this review.

Gospel singer, Jason Crabb is back with a brand new album. “Through The Fire” that features some of his biggest hits. He was a member of the Crabb Family before they retired. He won a Grammy award in 2010 for his self-entitled album for Best Southern/Country/Bluegrass Gospel album. His album was also nominated for a Dove Award.

One of my favorite songs on the album is entitled, “Somebody Like Me” because this one describes a story of a drunk man entering the church and he is needing help and love. The church isn’t moving off their pew to reach out to him and show him the love of Christ. Jason asked the important question who will be that somebody. He performs this song as anthem to believers to be that somebody. I liked how this song had such a powerful message that Christians need to reminded of daily. We don’t have to be afraid to step out and be a friend to someone who is in need of a true friend. I liked how the choir in the background chorus gave this song a Heavenly sound to the track. Another track, I also liked was the hymns medley (The Everlasting Arms/The Meeting in the Air/ I’ll Fly Away) Live because this one is a true Gospel track and it reminded me of the church I grew up in and we would sing these songs to glorify God and to remind us of the Heaven that awakes us. Another favorite is the title track, “Through the Fire” because this one is meant to encourage believers to hold on to Jesus when life circumstances attempt to take us under and we must always remember that God will take us through the fiery storms we encounter. I also liked the track, “Love Is Stronger” because this one describes how when we go through a difficult trial, it’s critical to reminisce that love is stronger and it will bring us through. My favorite song one the album would be, “Give”. I have heard the song before sung by country artist, LeAnn Rimes. I liked Jason’s version a little more because it has more of a beat and the tempo is increased. This one reminds us in order to get love we must give it and if we want to be forgiven, we must also forgive the people who have hurt us.

The whole album is filled with uplifting songs that will inspire and resonate with believers and nonbelievers and make an impact on their lives. This is the very first album I have listened to by Jason Crabb and I will definitely be checking out his other albums. I am now a fan! I liked how the album had some upbeat tempo songs as well as soulful slower songs. I also liked how it had some live versions of some of the songs to enhance the album. Jason Crabb has amazing vocal capabilities and you can tell he means every word he is singing. If you’re looking for a new gospel/country album, then check this one out!

Christy Nockels: Let It Be Jesus Album Review

Christy Nockels is back with a brand new live album entitled, “Let It Be Jesus” which releases today, April 28!

About Christy:

As a worship leader for many years, she has been an integral part of Passion Conferences from its inception in 1997.  She's seen first hand music sweep people into the presence of God in a powerful way. A pastor’s kid, who was born in Fort Worth and raised in Oklahoma, she grew up singing in church. She met her husband, Nathan, in 1993 at the Christian Artists Seminar in Estes Park, Co. They recorded an independent record with fellow worship leader Charlie Hall under the name Sons & Daughters that led to an invitation from Louie Giglio to participate in the first Passion conference in Austin. Christy’s voice gained a national platform when she and Nathan formed the duo Watermark, recording four acclaimed albums before that musical season ended, paving the way for Christy’s solo career. In 2008, the couple moved to Atlanta to become part of Passion City Church where she serves on the worship team with sixstepsrecords labelmates Chris Tomlin and Kristian Stanfill. The following year, Nockels released her acclaimed solo debut, Life Light Up and spent much of the next two years touring with Tomlin and Passion.

One of my favorite songs is the first song off the album which is an upbeat track called, “Freedom Song”. This one describes how Jesus sets us free from our difficult circumstances, addictions, and gives us healing and deliverance and freedom from the past. This one will make you want to get up and dance and praise God for all He has done for you and for all He is yet to do in your life. Another favorite is “Everything Is Mine in You” because this one is a great reminder not to let fear to control our life and to draw close to the Father. In Christ, we have everything we could possibly ever need. I also enjoyed the title track, “Let It Be Jesus” this one conveyed the importance of proclaiming the name of Jesus in the mist of struggles and trials and it is a powerful worship song that leads you into God’s Holy presence. My all-time favorite song on the album is, “If You Never”, this one explains how God showed up right on time and how we will keep praising God even if He never did anything else for us. The fact that He died for our sins is enough. I liked the intense feeling this song has and it has a wonderful beat and I liked the background vocals brings the song even more to life. The whole album is filled with worship and positive praise music which will assist you in connecting with the Father on an even greater level! If you’re looking for a new praise and worship CD, then check this one out!

Thrive Student Edition: Digging Deep, Reaching Out By Mark Hall Book Review

Thrive is a book about thriving in this world and not living in survival mode and going through the motions of everyday living. It is written by Mark Hall lead singer of popular recording group Casting Crowns. Mark Hall strongly believes too many Christians are just trying to survive through this life when in fact Jesus came where we could live our life and live it abundantly. In part one of the book, he compared our lives to a tree and we need to have roots that run deep and that is only possible by digging into the word of God regularly. The next part is reaching out to others like branches on a tree.

I would recommend this life changing book especially to every single high school and college aged student. I liked how Mark Hall revealed personally details about how he struggled with negative thinking and seeing himself the way God saw him. He also openly admitted that after a long-term relationship ended he held a gun to his head and tried to take his own life. What helped him was digging into the word of God and listening to His voice instead of the enemy. Mark Hall also failed the entrance exam for music majors and he struggled to know what to do with his life. In this book, he is actively trying to assist students into discovering their gifts that God has given them and how to use it for His kingdom.

One of my favorite chapters was, “The Eagle and The Yardbird”. This story was basically about a lost eagle that was living with a bunch of chickens. The chickens believed he was just an ugly yardbird who wasn’t like the other chickens. He was chastised for shrieking instead of clucking. He was told to follow everyone else and act like them. He never knew he was an eagle and he had so much more in store for his life. I really connected with this story because so many people struggle to believe what God has declared over their lives and they struggle with accepting and loving themselves like God does. We get caught up in believing what other people say about us and we believe their lies. Mark Hall pointed out the one way to fix this is having our roots into the word of God. This book helped me to realize that I have to work on making sure my roots are planted on solid ground. If you’re looking for a book on thriving and living an abundant life, then read this book!

Behind the Shades: Hope Beyond the Darkness By Shelia Raye Charles Book Review

Behind the Shades is an autobiography of Shelia Raye Charles, one of the daughters of the best-selling musical artist Ray Charles. Throughout the book, she opened up candidly about her estranged relationship with her father. She didn’t meet her father until she was fourteen years old. Her father was always driven by success and maintaining his business career. He was continually busy and he didn’t take the time to connect with his children enough. Shelia Charles resented her father and was very bitter for his lack of caring about his children. She distinguished that her father felt guilty for his brother’s death. Ray Charles’ mother repetitively berated him and stated that she was making him stronger because he was blind. She also tried to get a foot in the recording business and her father would make empty promises to help but wouldn’t follow through.

To say the very least, the book publicized the dramatic truth of Shelia’s dark past. She took readers through the journey of being arrested for the third time. She struggled with being addicted to drugs. She admitted to having low self-esteem and she would put up with a man who cheated on her. They also had a few children together. She shared a heartbreaking story about how he was gone for two days and he came back demanding for some money. At first, she refused to give him any. But she began to have labor pains and she eventually had to give him some where he would take her to the hospital. After, she arrived at the hospital and they check on the baby’s health, the doctors discovered that she had cocaine in her system. She knew she was losing another child to the state again. The baby girl was thankfully born fine. Ultimately in prison, Sheila Charles became closer to God and she let Him slowly begin to heal her father wounds.

I would recommend this remarkable book to anyone who enjoys an exceptional book about how God can take and use our past mistakes and turn it into something good. I appreciated how Sheila Raye Charles was transparent and she didn’t hold back in revealing excruciating details about her struggles and her dilemma with her father. The book did contain a great deal of personal information and some readers may at times be uncomfortable. I immensely loved the intricate depletion of her experiences and treatments of being in prison. I felt it could tremendously encourage people who are struggling with drugs that freedom is possible. If you’re looking for an inspiration book, with a message engrained of triumph, and overcoming a drug addiction, then this book is for you!

“I received this book for free from Cross Focused Reviews / Vox Dei for this review”.
