Growing Slow: A 6- Week Guided Journey to Un-hurrying Your Heart Bible Study by Jennifer Dukes Lee Book Review

In Growing Slow Bible Study, Jennifer Dukes Lee follows mainly along with her book Growing Slow. It isn’t required but it’s helpful. The book is divided into six sessions of the growing season: cultivate, plant, grow, harvest, celebrate, and heal. It also explored a key Bible verse, my land, your land, the holy land, un-hurry your heart, and a prayer. Throughout the book, she will look at how to slow down, laying down your burdens, growing into the areas you need to grow into, and finding the value of what is already growing, and healing. In the book, she explained how she was a rock picker for her first job. She was amazed by how there would be new rocks every single year. They were there hiding under the surface all along and she explained how winter helped to heal the land. The reason why they looked for and picked up rocks was to not harm the farm equipment. She used this story to explain how she had her own buried stones in her life from hurtful words, beliefs of not being good enough, secret fears, and past sins. She revealed how important it is to remember the stones and to seek true freedom. She also explored 1 Samuel 7 and how Samuel chose to remember the stones and how God performed goodness towards the Israelites. She looked at the year of Jubilee and how that fits into healing the land and healing us. She also included a cutout or a printable version of a stone where they can write down some of their stones and throw them away.

I would recommend this incredible Bible study to anyone who is ready to enjoy their life and they are wanting to grow deeper. I liked how transparent she was in sharing examples from her own life about how she was able to unclutter her heart and to slow down. My favorite lessons in the book were about healing and letting God assist you in releasing the stones that are weighting us down in life. There is freedom that is available if only we will go through the process. I also liked how she included special free videos and a leader’s guide to provide readers with the extra tools that they may benefit from. I haven’t read her original book and after this study it does seem to be like a book I will have to check out.

Combat Prayers to Crush the Enemy by John Ramirez Book Review

In Combat Prayers to Crush the Enemy, John Ramirez has written a new handbook about taking our authority over the enemy. He wants believers to be armed and ready to handle the attacks of satan. This book enclosed militant prayers to guide believers into praying them out loud against the schemes of the enemy. There is a total of 12 parts in the book. They range from making peace with God, dressing for battle, kicking fear to the curb, standing in authority, opening your spiritual eyes, release the thunder of God, loose God’s blessings over your life, and much more. The scriptures verses included topics from the different battle gear required to prepare for the fight, breaking down scriptural attacks, and protecting our young people.

I would recommend this wonderful book to anyone who is ready to stand in their authority in Christ. I immensely enjoyed how he included countless scripture verses and prayers meant to be prayed out loud against the enemy. The prayers are short and easy to read and they have scripture listed below them to reenforce the message of the prayer. One of my favorite topics was kicking fear to the curb. I enjoyed how he spoke over our lives about binding the demonic powers over our minds and rejecting every evil report that is trying to destroy our lives. The book will teach readers to become warriors and to take their proper position in Christ. I liked how he also included a journaling section.

A Flood of Kindness written by Ellen Leventhal Illustrated by Blythe Russo Book Review

Flood of Kindness is a story about how the river in the town decided to jump its bank and changed the town. There was a massive flood and the rain wouldn’t stop. They had to be rescued by a boat and they were transported to a shelter. The book described what she saw and how there was no room. A girl with a book waved at her and she didn’t wave back. They had to eat a peanut butter sandwich and she wasn’t used to that. She also only had her teddy left. A few days later, the water went down and they were able to go home. But they couldn’t live there so they had to travel back to the shelter. She explained how she saw people helping one another on the way back to the shelter. The girl with the book walked over to her and gave her a book and told her it was time for her to pass it on. Later, she saw a small boy all alone under a tree and he was upset because he lost all of his toys. He explained to her how he had a teddy bear like hers. She then remembered that she borrowed socks when she had wet ones, and how she borrowed a book. Then she handed the boy her own teddy bear and told him he could have him and it was time to pass him on. The boy smiled at her and she smiled too. The flood of kindness spread throughout the whole town and the book explained how we can also be a blessing to one another.

I would recommend this awesome book to anyone who is looking for a story about something negative happening and then finding the positive in the event. I immensely enjoyed the message of this book. It was more a darker tale at first, but if you went through a weather-related event and you needed to explain it to your children, this book would be a wonderful resource to use. The author also experienced three times in her own life flooding of her own. I liked how she added kindness to the story and was trying to teach our children how to have empathy.

Dream Big, My Precious One by Jill Roman Lord Illustrated by Brittany E. Lakin Book Review

In Dream Big, My Precious One is a book about dreaming big and providing hope to our children to keep striving and following their dreams. The book begins by a parent holding a children close to them on the beach describing all the things they could become. Some of these dreams could include, climbing a mountain to hike, playing ball, biking, playing guitar, kicking a ball, painting, dancing, building, becoming a doctor, nurse, a preacher, counselor, vet, serving others, opening up a store, and much more. The book also explained how God gave us these dreams since before we were born. They also revealed how dreams don’t happen overnight, how we have to keep fighting for it, training, running your race, and even when you fail short. They also reminded our children that our dreams aren’t just for us they are for other people’s benefits too and we might help change their lives. The book teaches our children to keep dreaming and to never settle and to trust God along the way.

I would recommend this amazing children’s book to anyone who is wanting to encourage and inspire their children to dream. This book has the potential to teach our children that they are dream big. I liked how they included anything from nurses to preachers to being a guitar player. There was a wide vast scope of dreams, professions, and callings that our children can go after their God given dreams and talents. I also liked how they included a scripture verse at end of the book where our children can begin to learn one verse. I really enjoyed the message this book included about dreaming big and inspiring our children. These illustrations included in this book were beautiful and eye appealing to our children.

Hello from Here Written by Pamela Kennedy Illustrated by Mackenzie Haley Book Review

Hello from Here is a brand-new children’s book about all the fun ways you can say hello. Some of these included, calling you on the phone, explaining what you see while you are walking, sending a letter by mail, drawing you a picture, writing a message up in the sky, putting a note on a dolphin at the sea, putting a flag on the moon, and much more. This book is all about connecting with others from a distance. The book itself is enclosed in a hardboard and it would make it more difficult for children to rip or tear the pages.

I would recommend this awesome children’s book to anyone who is looking for a new book that will inspire children to connect with friends and family during the pandemic and even after it. I liked how the book included many ways on connecting and building relationships when not in person. These included writing a letter, making food, sending a dinosaur over to kiss you, blowing giant bubbles, and yelling from a mountain about how much you love them. There is ton of special fun ways that our children could tell someone that they love them and they care for them. The book helps build their imagination. I also enjoyed the illustrations and the small attention to details that kids can look for special objects and connect with their kid.

One On One by Gary Levox of Rascal Flatts EP Album Review and Signed Poster Giveaway

Gary Levox of Rascal Flatts has recently released his debut Christian EP entitled, One on One. The EP consists of 5 songs featuring some surprising all-star duets, including Mercy Me, Jonathan McReynolds, his own daughter, Brittany Levox, and Breland. This is also the very first-time fans have ever heard Brittany Levox on a song with her dad.

The album begins with a song entitled, “A Little Love” featuring MercyMe. This one discussed walking with the weight of the world and the problems that are going on currently and feeling weighted down. This song reminded listeners to share the love and notice the people around being a friend and a blessing to them. It described how with love and it can add a smile to someone’s face. In the bridge, it stated how love is patient, kind, gracious, divine, and how the world is going to know us by our love for one another. MercyMe adds a flavor to the song and the vocals behind both singers will add the power to help this song to become a hit.

The second song on the album is called, “Never Forget” with Jonathan McReynolds. This song is explaining the love of Christ and it reminds us of how we felt the first time we come to know a Savior. This song is a declaration on not forgetting on what Jesus has done for us. This song is a Gospel type song and I could hear this being sung in church.

The third song is entitled, “While I Wait, featuring Brittany Levox. This is song about being broken and living with fear they we can’t get rid of. This song declared that we will still praise God even while we wait on our healing, until there is no more pain, our tears dries and hearts unbreaks. One of the powerful lyrics is the one that every enemy surrounding us has to bow down to Him. This is the first time I have ever heard Brittany perform with her father and their voices song amazing together.

The four song is entitled, “All I See” with Breland. This is a song about running with the wrong crowd and how they were running from Christ. It described being selfish and focusing only on ourselves. It’s a song about focusing on the world, cars, phones, homes, and bars. This is a song about giving it all back to God and redirecting our eyes back to Him.

The five song is a song called, “The Distance” just featuring Gary Levox. This is also the first single released to radio. This song explained how there is beauty in the struggles of life and how there is grace given to us in sin. This song reminded listeners that the only true hope is found on the cross. The enemy may be telling us to quit and give up. The song stated to listeners to go the distance and inspired us to believe we can make it up the mountain, live bold and fearless, finish the race, and to trade in our doubts.

I would recommend this awesome EP album to anyone who is a Rascal Flatts fan or they are a Christian music fan. I have always enjoyed Gary’s voice in the country music band. I became a Rascal Flatts fan when they release the song, “These Days” and have been a fan ever since. As fans know, Rascal Flatts have decided to retire and disband in 2020 after 21 years together. There was also supposed to be a farewell tour that was cancelled because of COVID-19. I was excited to see how Gary would do in the Christian music field. He has previously done a few Christian songs with Natalie Grant, Jason Crabb, Steven Curtis Chapmen, and Tauren Wells (Christian recording artist and worship leader of Lakewood, Joel Osteen’s church) before deciding to pursue Christian music. Some of my top two favorite songs on the EP would be The Distance and A Little Love. I think these two both have the potential to become top radio hits. I immensely liked how the album all included positive music to encourage listeners in their walk with Jesus and it will help them refocus their lives on Jesus.

Interview with Gary Levox:

When asked about the role God has played in his musical journey, LeVox said, “I feel like God graced us with a platform where we can not only touch people’s lives through music, but by being men of God offstage too,” explained LeVox. “At those times when we are with fans that are going through something like cancer, it is so wonderful to not only sing for them but to hold their hand and pray with them. I want them to know that they have a friend in me. I’m not just some guy on the stage. I feel like Christ has put me in this position because He knew I could handle the obligation, which often means taking the time to lift someone up in prayer.”
