Book, Music, and Movie Reviews

Uniquely by Joyce Meyer Illustrated by Marcin Piwowarski Book Review

Uniquely is a brand-new children’s book about how God has made us. She begins by sharing the verse Psalm 139:14 and this one discussed how we are fearfully and wonderfully made and how we will praise God and His works. The book reminded us how we are one of a kind and a masterpiece made by our loving Creator. God loves us when we make mistakes and mess up. God has given us talents and gifts to use and to help others.

I would recommend this awesome book to all children. This book has a wonderful message that everyone needs to hear and to also live out like we believe it. I love how it teaches our children how we need to love ourselves not in a selfish way but as we are God’s chosen child. I loved how she taught children how we all have gifts and we don’t need to wish we had someone else’s gift. I also liked how it discussed what to do with others think we’re silly, weird, and they don’t want to accept us. We can choose to smile and be kind and find our true friends. I loved how colorful the pictures were and how diverse all the characters enclosed and I feel like all children will be able to relate to the message of being ourselves.

Overcoming When You Feel Overwhelmed: 5 Steps to Surviving the Chaos of Life by Jentezen Franklin Book Review

In Overcoming When You Feel Overwhelmed, Jentezen Franklin explored different steps we can use when we feel like giving up and how we can be an overcomer. He divided the book up into three sections. The first one discussed how we are destined to overcome and how we are a part of biblical prophecy. The second section was about 5 steps for being an overcomer. Some of these included, “look within, look to Him, look out, and much more. The third part is about the four characteristics: fear, depressing, discouragement, and lust of the end time spirit that is present. He ends it with discussing how new life can began and we can gain freedom.

One of my favorite chapters went over the topic of depression. He looked at the life of David and how he was anointed king by Samuel. King Saul tried to kill him. He explained how he was anointed and weak at the same time. He looked at how the devil doesn’t want us believing that we are in fact anointed. I also liked how he looked at Dr. Daniel Amen and how he came up with the acronym ANT (Automatic Negative Thoughts). He compared our thinking to like ants and how our negative thoughts infest our brains and how they destroy our thought life. He shared a personal story about how he had to face his board members and how he thought he was going to get fired. They didn’t fire him but instead wanted to bless him with a new van for his family. He was afraid of the worst and it turned out to be something else entirely. He stated how he learned how he needed to focus on the positive and not let ANTS infest our minds with negative thoughts. He also shared a secret about a narrow mind and how they are always accompanied with a big mouth. I thought this was a very powerful statement.

I would recommend this life changing book to anyone who is ready to become an overcomer and they are feeling overwhelmed. I immensely liked how he looked at prophecy and how instead we need to be more concerned with who we are when He returns. One of my favorite sections was the one on the four characteristics of the evil spirit, Jezebel. I appreciated how he discussed each of the four ways the devil is trying to control us and to keep us overwhelmed in our problems. This book will assist readers in overcoming whatever challenges that they are facing.

My Review:

I was excited to rewatch this film for a second time. I immensely loved the message of the film and how determination and believing in yourself can help you to achieve the impossible. I also liked how they added autism as a I loved Tyson and Aklilu relationship and how he was like a big brother to him. He helped train him to run a marathon. I also liked watching the relationship between father and son change over time. They struggled greatly connecting with each other and Tyson just wanted desperately to fit into his world. He wanted to make his father proud like his football team does. He wanted to become a champion. I loved the reminder of the film and how we need to finish our race.

The Path to Peace: Experiencing God’s Comfort When You’re Overwhelmed by Ann Swindell Book Review

In The Path to Peace, Ann Swindell has written a brand new 40-day devotional. She divided the book into eight different key Biblical characters and how they discovered their peace. These included Sarah, Moses, Ruth, Paul, the Disciples, and much more. As we are all aware, they didn’t live all carefree lives. They like us had things to face and deal with. She explained how each had faith and they learned the importance of peace. She looked at how having a soul at rest in God brings us true peace. She shared throughout the book how she gained peace and had a changed heart. In the book, she opened about her own story. Her and her husband had been married for about 13 years at the time. Her husband lost his job and this caused financial struggle worries. She explained how she had a lack of security about the future. She remembered how she went off on her husband about how this wasn’t what she signed up for. She didn’t want a life filled with loss and pain. She didn’t want three miscarriages and for her son to have major health issues. They moved four times within 4 and a half years. They lost their friends and were abandoned. She touched on how her husband went into full time ministry and challenges this brought. Readers will be able to see how she was able to still have peace.

I would recommend this awesome devotional to anyone is ready to rediscover peace and they are tired of living in fear and anxiety. I immensely loved how she shared different Biblical characters and their life stories. I liked how she made the story appear like you were hearing about it for the first time. She made it seems fresh and new. I loved how she mixed in her own personal life stories in the book and how she handled the changes that happened in her family. It was awesome to witness how she remained hopeful and at peace.

First Love: Keeping Passion for Jesus in a World Growing Cold by Dana Candler Book Review

In First Love, Dana Candler explored the dynamics of love and how Jesus wants us to be our first love. She explained how Jesus wants us to live in loyalty to Him and to love Him completely. He doesn’t want us to be lukewarm Christians. She described how in Revelations Jesus wants us to keep love alive until He comes back. We are called to love Him with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength. She revealed her personal story and how Jesus jealous broke her and how much He loves her and His people. Jesus showed her how He loved her and died for her sins. She explored the bridegroom and how the church is His bride. There is going to be a massive wedding and a supper with Jesus. She explained how we are in a marriage covenant with Christ and how there is no greater bond than marriage.

I would recommend this amazing book on discovering our first love and how we can grow in our love. Many of us struggle with losing our love and the world is growing cold and we’re losing our passion. I liked how she explain how we are losing our love and how we need to come back to our first love. She explained how fear weakens over our lives when we return to our first love and how important it is to renew our faith and gain our confidence back.

Don’t Scroll: Evangelism in the Digital Age by Brian Barcelona Book Review

In Don’t ScrollBrian Barcelona shared how he had to change how he was doing ministry in 2020 when everything got shut down. For 12 years, he was traveling to public campuses- mostly in high schools preaching and telling students about God. He started doing Instagram live events talking with different key known voices. There wasn’t a record-breaking number of views. He was feeling frustrated and the lockdown was affecting him. He was talking with one of his friends and he suggested they do an event called, Gen Z for Jesus and they would do it June 17th when God was removed from public schools. 25,000 students joined the livestream. After this event, he met two other teenagers who encouraged him and they came with the idea of starting a digital ministry. They began filming videos telling people about Jesus. They used Instagram, TikTok, Zoom, and YouTube. They founded a text message number to allow people to text prayer requests and questions. In the book, he shared how the methods have changed in how we preach the Gospel but the message hasn’t changed. In the book, he devoted a whole chapter to personal stories about how others have since created their own videos changing people’s lives. These stories ranged from self-harm scars healed, salvation, freedom from suicide, brain healed, baptism, and much more.

I would recommend this awesome book to anyone who is ready to reach the current generation and teach them about Jesus. I loved the idea of the whole digital ministry and how many are using the popular TikTok platform to do so. It is really cool watching people make videos about Christ. I loved the story he shared about healing from brain aneurism and how one guy battling with thoughts of suicide didn’t follow through because of other users commenting and reaching out to him. I also loved how he shared some from others helping spread the Gospel using different digital platforms. I also liked how he enclosed 12 tips for effective digital missions. One of my favorite ones discussed that every generation is changing and we need to listen to the Holy Spirit and remember what our mission is. We have to open to His leading.
